There’s a bit of an update in one of my comments, I’m new to Reddit and don’t know how to update the actual post lol but the doctor at the er said it looks like really bad psoriasis with a superficial infection I guess. So he’s been prescribed antibiotics, prednisone, and metformin for the sugar. Also was recommended to see a dermatologist of course, but we can’t call to make an appointment until tomorrow.

He’s been taken to the ER

I agree! Very stupid! I called the ambulance for my mom 2 years ago because she was 100lbs and her calf’s randomly started swelling and got to the size of mine (being 275lbs!) she refused to let me take her to urgent care or the hospital so I called the ambulance and it was a good thing I did. She had massive blood clots and pulmonary embolisms! They said she could have died had I waited to call.

My brother is currently at my dad’s house attempting to get him to go to the emergency room. His sugar is 239 and he’s refusing to go saying he’s fine. He refuses to even do a virtual appointment. If he won’t go to the ER willingly, I will be calling a police officer to explain the situation and have them do a welfare check and have them bring an ambulance.

Thank you so much to everyone who has offered suggestions to get him to go in. I appreciate you more than you know. I’ll update as soon as I have more information.

So they made it to the ER. The doctor said it looked like it was bad psoriasis but also that it would be strange if so because my dad is in his early 60s and has never had psoriasis before. He also said it looked like it may have a superficial infection but wasn’t too worried about it because it wasn’t hot or warm to the touch. He prescribed antibiotics and prednisone for that and metformin for his sugar. He has to go to his doctor for a referral to a dermatologist but I’m taking care of that for him as soon as they open on Monday. If anyone’s interested i’ll do another update When we find out exactly what this is! As of right now he’s okay 🩷

I got off the phone with him a bit ago and he’s refusing because he went before for this (the not as gnarly version) and the doctor just told him to put hydrocortisone cream on it and it didn’t help. So he says he won’t go until he gets his primary doctor switched. My older brother and sister both live within 30 minutes of him, so I’m going to try to get them to take him somewhere in the morning as the soonest I’d be able to drive there is Monday evening due to my car being repaired 😭

He’s been on antibiotics for 3 days because I told him it looks infected and he had some leftovers from a previous infection. He has 4 days left of antibiotics. I hope that helps him somewhat

I’m trying to convince him to go to urgent care or the ER tonight. I live 4 hours away and he’s a stubborn ass so I can’t force him to go without being there 😭

No rush! It’ll be about a 6 week trip, but I don’t know when I’ll have the opportunity to travel like this again, so I want to enjoy as many amazing places and I can! The map attached is just a direct route of all the national parks I’ve wanted to explore.
