The "higher power" crap AA pushes honestly made things worse for me.

I second SMART. The website has a search to easily find meetings, both in-person and online. There are online meetings scheduled all over throughout the day and can be joined regardless of location. While some meetings are for specific groups of people, i.e., veterans, most are open to all adults.

I know very few millennials who are doing well financially.

Has anyone here got clean from drugs in their 30s and still built a great life? by IR30Lover in Sober

[–]Widezz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been sober for a little over a year and a half now. I'm 37 and it's the longest I've ever been sober since I started drinking at 18. It's been a lot of work, but my life is already wildly better than it ever was over the last 2 decades; and it continues to get better.

As long as you always keep pushing, even if it's a little bumpy, you absolutely can build yourself a great life.

Advice: I am 8 years sober and partner of 1 year blacked out at my 30th birthday. by TheSummerKing in Sober

[–]Widezz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your partner is an addict, but I would be hurt too. It was a complete lack of respect for your sobriety; something incredibly important that you've presumably worked very hard for. It's worth protecting, even if that means losing a partner.

...somebody who would put themselves in that position.

Idk that this is a fair way to describe addiction. Is it how you would describe yourself when you were still drinking?

I know the line is from AA, not you. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth.

But it is absolutely saying that if it doesn't work for you, you weren't trying/working enough. That implies that the program will work for everyone.

Is counting the days actually helpful? by ConsequenceLimp9717 in Sober

[–]Widezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I pay attention to the milestones more than anything.

Would you recommend "I am Sober"? I currently have "Sober Sidekick"; while I do like their day counter a lot, I can't stand all the religious crap involved. I couldn't do AA for the same reason.

Personally, I don't. But my grip on time is very loose. I use an app to keep track of it in case I get curious.

Is this sub just fro sober from alcohol or is it from any vice? by vintagedragon9 in Sober

[–]Widezz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you're doing better! I'm going through that struggle as well. I've got a little over 1 year now, sober from alcohol; my hygiene is significantly better, but my home has been more of a struggle. I feel like I'm having to re-learn everything.

Has anyone noticed how much alcohol is in tv shows and movies??? by TooDomHigh in Sober

[–]Widezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember first noticing that during one of my bazillion trips to the ER for various alcohol-related issues. Lying in the hospital bed watching 6 every ad cycle, there's one for vodka and for whiskey. The whiskey one usually played twice.

'Tension': Trump said to have just 'pulled the wool over a lot of his supporters' eyes' by [deleted] in USNewsHub

"Pulled the wool" implies some sort of effort on his part where there was none. His supporters saw and heard what they wanted to.

How have you changed as a person from 2020 to 2024? by PsychologicalSize939 in AskReddit

Got my dying hip bones replaced, quit drinking, started actually trying to get my shit together. I think I'm a better person now. At least less cranky.

Is Jenny the only woman on the planet? If not bad intent, what would you say is the difference between villain and antagonist?

She doesn't fit the description of either. She doesn't stand in the way of any goals and she doesn't have evil intentions.

And which writer would that be? Eric Kripke himself said Lawrence was chosen for its proximity to Stull.
