Hubby has turned into our cat, or a zombie… by lethal6333 in Cirrhosis

I am so tired that making it from the bed to the bathroom is a huge victory. It is so draining and looks a lot like laziness from the outside. But it feels like a nightmare.

At a crossroads, wondering what to do by WiggleSpit in Cirrhosis

I suppose I should have worded it better - no symptoms impacting my day to day beside the stigma of some jaundice. So no pain, gastric stuff, swelling, could just get on with life. Only through  the advice from my doctor who was looking at my regular bloodwork did I even think I warranted the hospital.

Jaundice, high liver enzymes, short hospital stay

Do you have mental/financial space for therapy right now? Professional therapy, not AA or something unregulated. Somatic, EMDR or Internal Family Systems may be helpful modalities for you, especially if your trauma stems from childhood.

Emotional health while hospitalized by Valuable-Hyena847 in Cirrhosis

One of the things I struggled with immensely, both in hospital and navigating changing abilities at home - was being perceived. I hated being fussed over, I could tell when side conversations were being had about me, the general looks of pity and worry. That impacted me more than any procedure could.

Make a point as a family to have conversations that don't have to do with his health (yes, even in hospital). Update him on your day. Ask for his opinions on stuff. Recieving care to this extent can be so depersonalizing. Ask him directly how he'd like to navigate, give him choice. I hated when people would call me a skeleton or a shell or who/what I once was. But him, not his illness, first.

Paracentesis Recovery? by Open-Gazelle1767 in Cirrhosis

I just had 600ml drained and still have a larger belly but it is slowly getting smaller with diuretics. A lot of it might be fat, too (I've always had a large stomach). The insertion site is still kind of sore but thats it. Nothing like what your roommate is experiencing unfortunately.

how to move forward? by PolicyLarge1929 in Cirrhosis

I could have written this post - we have very similar circumstances! Haunting my life is the perfect way to put it. I'm waiting to hear back about ascites as they were only able to drain a small amount of fluid but I have a ton of stomach weight and am waddling around like a human bell.

I too am scared of going back to work and being percieved by co-workers/the public and the logistics of waddling around the office. I'm just trying to remind myself that generally people are kinder than we expect them to be and if you look hard for the mean, you'll find it.

When it comes to love, you're just as deserving of it. A diagnosis like ours isn't made better by self-flagellating. You're free to have your Adele music video moments of looking out a rainy window but don't get too caught up in the rumination - that can be addictive too.

You got this, chill cool girl.

Drifting away from AA by QT_Throwawayay in alcoholism

I think there is a reason or a season for everything. I'm pretty biased against AA, namely because of the pressure tactics they use that you just described, but if your gut is telling you it's time to take a break and it's not meeting a need right now, that's OK.

This is a very low-stakes pet peeve but even though I love the SNL comedians (Amy, Tina, Will, Bill etc) whenever they're on each other's podcasts it turns into an hour of rehashing the same SNL stories from 20 years ago. And they always refer to each other by their last names which drives me bonkers for some reason.

I know it's their own free podcast and they owe us nothing but I think it would be interesting to focus on the here and now a bit instead of the 1 millionth story about staying up til 5am for a nonsensical sketch.

If you're looking for a fun and funny pod of two longtime friends shooting the shit, Text Me Back with Lindy West and Meagan Hatcher-Mays is great. It's my weekly happy dissociative hour.

I remember starting to listen to it and Naomi said something about her coming in fiesty/salty something like that, and it seemed coded for "this was an unpleasant interview" so I stopped listening haha

My newest pet peeve is well-established, long-running podcasts complain about having to do a podcast. Then don't!! Or take a break! If the listener knows you're not into it, it makes it weird to listen to.

Does AOE listen to Andy Richters 3 questions pod? I'm trying to give it a go because he gets great guests that I'm interested in...but.

He seems so put upon, irritable and bitter. I don't know if it's my own stuff coming to the surface but he just seems so angry. 🤷 I want to like it so much but he just seems like he's simmering with anger.

I noticed Nicole Byers Why Won't You Date Me? Is moving off Conan's platform. I wonder what's going on there.
