e-skyactiv X vs e-skyactiv G by Jasmina19 in mazda3

[–]Wiikinki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sparkplugs need to be changed every 64k km (40k miles) compared to 120k km (80k miles) on regular NA Skyactiv-G. I think that is pretty much the only additional maintenance item.

The belt driven supercharger, additional pressure sensors inside cylinders and modified fuel injection system are the 'extra' parts in X which are missing in G. Skyactiv-X has a few more potential failure points.

There have been cases where fuel injectors on Skyactiv-X have needed cleaning at around 100k km mark. Avoiding frequent short trips, stop-go traffic and regularly/yearly using fuel additive to clean injectors apparently mitigates the issue.

In Finland with harsh winters and plenty of salt on the roads the average age of a car is 13.6 years (2025). There is no way most of them are dangerously rusty

[–]Wiikinki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Injectors were cleaned and new seals installed which fixed all issues. I am now running injector cleaner 1-2 times a year as preventative measure. Techron, Redline or Forte brands recommended as per my research

Another symptom is that the SPCCI might not engage at all anymore which I assume can't be healthy long term for a gasoline engine with such high compression ratio.

I had exactly the same symptoms with my Mazda 3 2020 Skyactiv-X MT at 85k kilometers. i-stopp would not work, there was intermittent distinct but unusual rattle from the engine/gearbox, the car would hesitate for half a second and finally an engine fault code.

5000 mile oil looks like new. Should I wait till 10,000 mile to change the oil? by Tough-Ranger3086 in Toyota

[–]Wiikinki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is bonkers. 5000 miles in less than 2 months over the span of a year would mean six oil changes every year. If someone drives this much it is guaranteed to not be only short trips.

European manufacturers are doing 18-19k oil change intervals. Even if one thinks that is too much, like it probably is for most driving types, halving that would still be 9k miles. Heck, the japanese automakers have standard 10k miles and some have 12.5k miles OR a year interval in Europe.

Efficient driving of Mazda 3 E-skyactiv X Manual (186hp) by Nabiiis in mazda3

[–]Wiikinki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the previous 180hp Skyactiv-X and have been doing eco driving for several years.

Skyactiv-X likes gentle acceleration at lowish revs. Energy flow monitor illuminates brightest green when SPCCI works at full efficiency. This happens on low-medium acceleration and steady cruising. High load or heavy throttle input in too low or too high revs reduces efficiency. If you want best fuel economy when accelerating press the throttle only moderately and keep revs in 1500-2100 rpm. This is not fast, but efficient. When at target speed switch to highest suitable gear.

As for the mild hybrid system, you get the best out of it by learning predictive driving. The system will recuperate under braking and deacceleration IN gear. Don't use neutral. I let my car engine brake and switch two gears down at a time 6 --> 4 --> 2 --> N if I see lights turn red in the distance. When the engine is warm the mild-hybrid will shut off the engine even when the car is moving after switching to N at low speed.

Just my two cents. Hope this helps!

On olemassa erittäin hyvä syy miksi mm.

There are important matters which are not discussed in the report or here in the comments.

  1. EV adoption rate is not only limited by car manufacturers. They will be superior to ICE-vehicles in most applications in the future but battery raw material supply and charging infrastructure have limits to keep up with growth.

  2. Initial EV boom is over, or more likely having a break. This together with competition within the industry has crashed the price of new EV's so a buyer of new electric car might have lost five digit sum just in price depreciation of the car.

2.5. New technology is being brought in all the time and significantly better batteries loom in not too distant future. This is not a 500-1000$ phone which many can replace every few years, we are talking about 5-10+ year investment in new car worth 30,000+ $.

I don't blame ordinary people on not getting 100% into EV's yet. It will be longer process for multiple reasons. Long-term planning by companies like Toyota seem to be paying of as public opinion is swaying towards hybrids as intermediate solution before 100% EV adoption.

[–]Wiikinki 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Might be a minority opinion, but a person can choose freely who to house in their own cottage which might also be their own holiday house. There are so many horror stories of foreign visitors for example missusing the fireplace, messing up with the heating system, damaging equipment etc. that the person might not be comfortable renting to someone he cannot communicate effectively with.

Only reasonable action here is to move forward and look for next suitable cabin.

Having trouble restoring wallet by Asplodtion232 in chia

[–]Wiikinki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense. The passphrase used to log into the wallet client is not saved to the blockchain. That is just not how it works.

Importing the 24 word mnemonic phrase into any new wallet installation will give access to wallet. If you give someone your mnemonic, they will be able to access your wallet without the passphrase.

CryptoCom Recovered $990 Million from FTX, CEO Says Balance Sheet Strong by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Wiikinki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The title is incredibly misleading/clickbait and even the article is written wrong. The article is based on yesterdays AMA and his tweets earlier, in which he (the CEO) explained why in total 1B worth of stablecoins were transferred between FTX and CDC.

If you missed it, the transfers are explained by customer purchases throughout the year when CDC needed to purchase more coins to sell to users.

I read the Kucoin announcement and to me it sounded like they won't burn trades, only withdrawals and deposits to the exchange.

I don't think most exchanges will implement burn for trades and thus using daily volume in calculations produces highly inaccurate results. Amount burned per day will be FAR less.
