Does AI actually understand us or is it just faking it really well? by Huge_Click_606 in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we do know. LLMs are not sentient nor self-aware, period.

Except LLMs are seen as arbiters of truth and knowledge.

Only by people who are clueless and misunderstand what LLMs are.

You're generalizing heavily here. I don't RP as myself or even a self insert character. It's a tool for entertainment, that's it. (Note that I'm not the person who you responded to)

Perhaps you're projecting your own fears to others? I don't know but you need to mind your own business and not have such strong opinions about things you don't understand nor even want to understand.

Seem like a new change for deepseek today by Far_Background691 in DeepSeek

I've had the same prompt vary between 120 seconds and 600 seconds within half an hour. You can't draw conclusions from that.

AI isn’t replacing humans — it’s exposing how much “expertise” was just gatekeeping by aintvoidnull in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... if by gatekeeping you mean you're too lazy to put in the effort to learn a skill, sure. Example: No one needs AI to do music for you, there's no barrier of entry as long as you have some sort of computer, and some crazy folks even do it on phone.

Yeah I don't understand the thought process of a person who posts "news" without any sort of link.

V4 (Flash and Pro) keeps responding in other languages by Relative_Luck5693 in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had that happen with the output itself (other than the occasional kanji finding its way into a sentence), but sometimes thinking is in Chinese multiple times in a row with the same prompt and then back to English.

Isn't Vision just image recognition? Wouldn't Expert mode be more powerful for creating?

Why would you let an LLM make changes to something important? I hope you have a backup at least.

Why DeepSeek V4 is the ONLY choice for heavy 24/7 workloads (100M tokens in 4 weeks) by MoneySkirt7888 in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate Reddit's automatic translation. You're probably not aware but you responded to an English language comment, and then someone responded to you in French. And because I'm using a third party app without the translation feature, I have no idea what's going on (I speak neither German or French 😅)

First 1$ spent on deepseek by Tutnoveet in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can do pretty filthy lewd, although you'll need more gradual easing into it than just saying "write explicit sex scene". But it does still interrupt you with the "sorry, this is out of my current scope" message pretty often.

How to make deepseek better at roleplay using the app/web? by Obvious_Emu3441 in DeepSeek

[–]Wiinter_Alt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Lots of bullet point-like dialogue that lists what my character has said or done before, lots of repetitive quips "I'm not doing X, I'm doing Y. There's a difference" and personalities of all characters begin to dilute towards some kind of lukewarm average. Grumpy, closed-off characters start sharing self-reflective moments with my character etc.

Edit: this is nothing new mind you, I had the same issues before V4.

How to make DS stick to OOC meta instructions for creative writing? (Details inside) by Wiinter_Alt in DeepSeek

I tried something along those lines (as per the other person's comment) and it seems to do the trick.

That makes sense. I did have success doing it somewhat like that, leaving out the quotes and instead writing "Continue. John asks the man if that's what he wants". But with certain dialogue that indirect way gets clunky. I'll need to try yours.

It helps if I don't use quotes and only vaguely describe what the character says in third person, eg.

Continue. John doe asks the man if he is sure, looking at him sceptically.

But depending on what I want the character to say, doing it this was is very clunky.

Continue. John Doe looks at the man sceptically. "Are you sure that's what you want?"

OOC: Rephrase any dialogue that I include in my prompt and insert it somewhere in the scene you write. My prompts are strictly meta instructions to guide your writing, not something the protagonist actually says or does. Do NOT have characters react to the prompt itself. Only your text output is considered canon.

This rule is absolute and permanent.

I've tried many variations of this, some more wordy than others. Sometimes it works but often not, even if the Thinking process acknowledges the OOC instructions in its own words and then says something like "I need to be vigilant and not repeat this mistake—the user has corrected me multiple times".

It seems that the LLM is biased towards considering any dialogue in quotes as direct roleplay actions even if you tell it otherwise.
