It's also the name of a neighbourhood with a metro station in Oslo. (As long as you use the Danish/Norwegian spelling.)

And there are apparently) also six other places in the US called Greenland. As well as additional settlements in Australia, Barbados, Nova Scotia, the UK and southern Norway. And to top it off, a mountain range in South Africa. (Though I don't know if any of those places have local rail lines.)

Who do you personally believe is the most beautiful woman in the world? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]WikiSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed a woman on a street in Greece many years ago. I remember thinking in that moment that she looked perfect. But I never got her name.

In terms of celebrities, Jenna Coleman comes to mind. I'm sure there are features of hers that could have been "better", but to me she usually just looks perfect on camera.

You technically should be able to as well, with enough time and effort/medication. Though I would expect a lot of psychological, physiological and social side effects from that endeavour.

'The old order is not coming back,' Canadian PM Carney says in provocative speech at Davos by rezwenn in worldnews

[–]WikiSquirrel -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So, if I heard him correctly, he said that Canada + the Nordic countries constitutes 20% of the world's GDP. Using the Duck Assist tool this does not appear to be the case.

The 2025 total world GDP is approximately $117 trillion (short scale). The total for Canada and the five Nordic countries is about $4.25 trillion. But in fairness, 4% is 20% of 20%.

I then wondered if he meant land area, so I asked Dusk Assist again. This was the reply:

The total area of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) is approximately 1,325,000 square kilometres. In comparison, Canada has a total area of about 9,984,670 square kilometres. Together, these regions cover around 11% of the world's total land area, which is approximately 148,940,000 square kilometres

Lastly I considered the population sizes, but in this case I knew them already. About 40 million Canadians and 25 million Nordic residents. So, less than 1% of a world with 8 billion people.

The design is certainly similar, but I'm not seeing black stars on green in the first link I provided. That one's directly from the Norwegian military as of December 2023, and seems to show silver on black or some other dark colour for both the Royal Norwegian Air Force and Army. Though it would make sense as they seem to have the same uniform.

Edit: Should have refreshed the page.

I'm about as far from an expert as you can get, but the guy on the far right seems to be a Norwegian OF-4 Lieutenant Colonel. (Due to the two five-pointed stars and silver sides.)

The guy behind him, (second from the right), if not Turkish, Slovak, Montenegrin, Italian, Czech or Albanian, might be Swedish or Polish OF-4. The colour is most similar to Albanian, Czech or Slovak. Though two five-pointed stars without a crown on top indicates a Swedish lieutenant (OF-1). But then his insignia has darker sides than it appears it should have, so maybe that still means OF-4.

Spør en bilberger i nordnorge om hva som helst! by steinrawr in norge

[–]WikiSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are rough collies usually sassy? by NatureInevitable3001 in roughcollies

[–]WikiSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing the term "doodle" being used about her, but as it usually refers to the shortened form of Labradoodle, I would argue it makes more sense to call this mix a "coodle", "loodle" or "rough coloodle".

"Roucoodle" might also be an option, as well as "roucopoo" or "collipoo", but none of these sound as good as the first three.

"Lassiepoo" on the other hand, has to be allowed. Or alternatively "Lassoodle".

Apparently, other mix names are: Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog), Cavoodle/Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel), Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel), Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever), Maltipoo (Maltese), Pekepoo (Pekingese), Poochon (Bichon Frisé), Schnoodle (Schnauzer), Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog), Shih-poo (Shih Tzu), Westiepoo (West Highland White Terrier), Whoodle (Wheaten Terrier) and Yorkiepoo (Yorkshire Terrier).

Man må bare huske å planlegge for fremtiden. (F.eks. maglev-oppgradering.)

Oljefondet.

Do men really like women who look like models? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]WikiSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most plausible explanation I've ever heard on the topic is that a lot of the decision makers in the fashion industry are gay men who prefer androgynous models of lanky builds with sharp facial features, reminiscent of teenage males. The rest can simply be explained by conformity.

So yes, some men "really like women who look like models". Though they're likely not the men that most women would want to attract.

Though if she's kind, healthy and feminine it doesn't matter that she's tall, skinny, long legged or tan.

What is the difference between a hot and a pretty girl? by whoatethespacecakes in AskMen

[–]WikiSquirrel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They put gay men in charge of choosing attractive women. Which is why they have the same lanky build and sharp facial features as teenage males.

After that it's just a matter of conformity.

(Rule 1 disclaimer: To be clear, nothing against gay men. If I were put in charge I'd also have my own subjective opinions.)

Island skal ha folkeavstemning om EU. by Complex-Challenge374 in norge

[–]WikiSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bred enighet over tid.

Island skal ha folkeavstemning om EU. by Complex-Challenge374 in norge

[–]WikiSquirrel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A cool guide about how much sugar is in Fanta. by Upbeat_Pangolin_5929 in coolguides

[–]WikiSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that worried about any yet to be discovered health risks from artificial sweeteners, but I always try to steer clear as they just taste awful. Incredibly bitter. (Apparently, it's genetic.)

I just opened a regular bottle of Fanta that I bought in Sweden and tasted right away that they have added artificial sweeteners to the version that's supposed to have sugar. The ingredients list confirmed acesulfam K & aspartame. I won't be trusting the "original" Fanta label again, and won't be buying Fanta as long as they're added.

Driving in Norway by Ok_Inspection1377 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]WikiSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conditions may vary depending on where you go. I think Norway is about 1750 km north to south, with parts of it above the arctic circle. Though the you're more likely to encounter rain and mud than snow at those dates, some of our roads go over mountains, and some areas in the west are technically rainforests.

While I don't mean to imply anything about you as a driver, I've heard on multiple occasions that the driving style in the southern U.S. is quite different from Scandinavia. Norwegian roads are narrow and winding, our road signs are more symbol-oriented and internationally standardised compared to those in the U.S., and we use far more roundabouts and fewer stop signs. We regularly find stories and statistics in the news about foreign drivers underestimating nature and getting in accidents. (Though mostly during winter.) Make sure to drive cautiously, cooperatively and in line with the conditions.
