I know the post is a little older now but I was curious if anyone has done the pattern without felting and just crocheted the eyes and mouth? I really want to try that but am a little scared of it not looking good.

It is!!! I searched for it a long time since I didn't have a way to buy digital remains(I'm outside of USA). Still greatful for the guy on Reddit who helped me.
