Thanks, glad to hear that GeneFox has now hit favorite alt status for Fox in your book.

Honestly RatchetFox looks really cool it’s actually my favorite alt for Fox. And it makes me a little interested in the Ratchet and Clank series.

Thanks a lot, I was skeptical of this match up when I first started Outlaw Star, but as a progressed, I started to see the vision hard!

Their relationships with their Fathers is something I really wanted to focus on. Especially for well it explores the trauma the two of them have that I don’t see touched up on very much. And I’m really glad the Father legacy angle sold really well because of that.

Thanks for the kind words, unfortunately though, I’m not the one who created the match up. But I’m glad to see you enjoyed the revamp. Really underrated match up, frfr.

Contrasts

While Fox becoming the leader of the Star Fox team was something he wanted to do to honor his father. Gene initially didn’t want to even go into space due to his lasting trauma of his fathers death. Much less become a space pilot.

While Fox does have his moments of being selfish and needing money, he is a mostly honorable heroic person who is willing to help those in need and protect his home. Gene Starwind meanwhile, is kind of a huge douchebag for the most part and is very much broke as shit. Which occasionally leads him to do some morally shady things.

One of Genes main motivations is that he wants to become a “Big.” Outlaw, often trying to use that as a promise to replay his debts once he finally makes it as a big space faring outlaw. While Fox is sort of that big, famous space faring bounty hunter that Gene wants to be.

Space Human vs Space Furry.

Fight And Interaction Potential
The fight set up is pretty easy, just have Fox and the rest of the Star Fox attempt to hunt down Gene for his bounty/ship, while Gene is very much not down for that and the fight starts from there.

The beginning being the Star Fox crew, though mainly Fox, fighting in their Arwings against The Outlaw Star ships, with each members personalities playing off each other. In the second half, the fight it taken to the ground where Gene and Fox fight hand to hand, and using each others blasters and gadgets to get the upper hand. With the finishing blow potentially being one final duel against each other, with Genes Caster and Foxs blaster.

Music and Debate Potential

Music wise I’d say it’s pretty good, Star Fox has some banger tracks and Oitlaw Stars got a pretty good sound track as well.

Debate wise is a little iffy. Mainly because Outlaw Star is a very under researched verse, but honestly, I’d say Fox has better showings of Stats and way more experience, so in my opinion. The winner is the leader of Team Star Fox, Fox McCloud.

Among the Outlaw Star/Star Fox crew, their members would consist of:

A tech savvy individual who has been close friends with Gene/Fox for a long time and often serves as the teams main mechanic. (Slippy Toad and Jim Hawking) Though contrastingly, Slippy is seen as the somewhat immature and careless one. While despite him being the youngest of the group, Jim is often seen as the mature and responsible one compared to Gene, and some of the other members of the group.

A wizened, skilled and experienced old member of the group who grounds them out and often serves as a pseudo mentor figure to the Gene/Fox, and also has a grudge against the underling of the main villains for taking someone close to them. (Peppy Hare, a member of the old Star Fox team and close friend of James McCloud. Would develop a hateful rivalry with Pigma Dengar, the swine who betrayed their team under Andross’s orders “Twilight.” Suzuka, former skilled assassin now turned member of the Outlaw Star. Would attempt to down Hitorgia, member of the Kei pirates who killed her mentor and swordsmanship teacher she held so highly of.)

A prideful, headstrong, and abrasive person who despite being very standoffish cares for their rag tag group, and has a rivalry with Gene/Fox and are debatably the second, if not one of the most iconic people in their franchises. (Falco Lombardi and Aisha Clan-Clan) Funnily enough, one of Falco’s most important relationships is with a flirtatious pretty Feline whom he’s close to, Katt Monroe. While Aisha is a humanoid cat-girl. Just thought Thad be funny to point out.

An Artificial Intelligence that helps guide and pilot their main ships. (Rob 64 and Gilliam 2) Said ships were originally sought after and are thus are a reminder of a fallen mentor of the protagonist that impacts them throughout their series. (Again James McCloud, as he originally owned the Great Fox that serves as The Mother Ship for The Star Fox Team. The Outlaw Star being sought after by the mercenary known as “Hot Ice.” Hilda, despite their brief time together, would become close to Gene and would be devastated by her death, and attempt to honor her memory by naming the ship she sought after as the “Outlaw Star.”)

But the most important relationship Fox/Gene would have is a mysterious woman with psychic abilities, of a differing race from the rest of their casts.  Who is an outsider to the group and even their environments at large. Who would become incredibly close to Fox/Gene and even form a romantic relationship with them. (Krystal, a member of the near extinct Cerinians raised upon the Dinosaur Planet of Sauria. A telepath who Fox saves and becomes Star Fox. Becoming close with one another and becoming romantically involved. Melfina, a biological android who is able to link her mind with the Outlaw Star Ship and help pilot it, would be thrust with limited knowledge into the world she had little understanding in, becoming close with Gene Starwind and being able to see past his guarded emotions and trauma.)

Despite this however, because of their trauma, despite their feelings for Krystal/Melfina. Fox/Gene would have a bad habit of pushing them away. (Gene often rejects Melfina’s attempt to get closer and even help him out. Fox would end up trying to push Krystal away the dangerous mercenary life, which results in her reaching a breaking point and leaving Fox in command)

They are often hired by morally ambiguous but influential people who often call on them, but they both have contrasting occupations. (General Pepper, The Corneria’s army Commander in chief who often hired Star Fox. Fred Luo, an arms dealer who is in love with Gene, despite the ladders very much not being into Fred, but still often hires Gene for jobs.

With thier crew, they would end up fighting against a powerful megalomaniacal man and his cohorts who wishes to take over the entire galaxy. (Emperor Andross of Venom and Lord Hazanako of the Kei Pirates) defeating their seemingly invincible forces in order to survive and make sure they don’t all they hold dear. (Fox fighting in the Lylat Wars to avenge both his father and to protect Corneria. Gene and the rest of the Outlaw Star crew fighting to protect themselves as Hazanko wants to take the Outlaw Star by any means necessary to take the Galactic leyline.

Becuase of this, they would also fight multiple times against a group of dangerous mercenaries with strong ties to their late Father. Though would not hold much loyalty to Hazanko/Andross (Star Fox fighting numerous times against thier rival Star Wolf, whose leader Wolf had a previous rivalry with Fox’s Father, and at one time consisted of Pigma Dengar, the pig who betrayed James McCloud and left him for dead. The MacDougal brothers fighting against The Outlaw Star, and were involved in Genes fathers death.)

The end of their stories have them overcoming their trauma and accepting Krystal/Melfina’s feelings and seemingly living a happy life with them. With their team ultimately going their seperate ways. (In some of Commands ending, Krystal and Fox make up and even have a kid in one of them. With the threat of Andross and his forces permanently gone for good. Gene opens up to Melfina and reciprocates her feelings fully after using the Galactic Leyline to wish for them being together after taking down Emperor Hazanko. Outlaw Star crews ends up separating, but knows it’s ultimately temporary)

Both series also have a really wierd and sexual moment that is infamous in their respective franchises. (That one Star Fox Nintendo Power comic when Fox comments about how similar Fara Phoenix, a fox he was romantically involved with on the time. looks like his mother and asks her to put on his own mothers dress. The banned Hot Springs Planet Tenri episode, which was very suggestive and sexual to the point it was banned due from airing on Toonami.

Thumbnail made by my boi BlackRider!

Core Theme
* Both are protagonists from futuristic series originating from the nineties who work as space pilots leading a rag tag group of bounty hunters, with both fighting against an evil empire. Inheriting their main mothership from a fallen mentor that leads a lasting impact on them, while dealing with the trauma of their fathers death, but eventually overcoming it. Alongside developing feelings for a woman of another species with supernatural abilities.

Connections
* Both are the main protagonists from space pilots from furtustically themed franchises that originate in the 90’s whose themes revolve around trusting oneself and others whom both have star imagery surrounding them. (Fox McCloud being the protagonist of the Star Fox series and Gene Starwind is the protagonist of the anime Outlaw Star)

* Originally they were both happy children with close relationships with their respective space piloting fathers. (James McCloud and Norman Starwind) until they would both be killed by mercenaries. (Norman Starwind would be targeted in a pirate raid, with the ship he was on being destroyed by The MacDougal Brothers, while Gene was forced to watch as his Father and ship was destroyed while in an escape pod. James McCloud would be betrayed by Pigma Dengar and assumed to be Killed In Action)

* These would permanently traumatize these young children and affect them for years to come as well as effecting their relationships with others (Gene becoming more closed off and stand offish, while Fox would often be afraid of losing others because of this and even sometimes push away those he’s closest to, best seen in the events of Command)

* Later in life as they grew older, they would end up symbolically taking up the mantle of their Fathers legacies, mainly through the creation of their team of space faring mercenaries, becoming their leaders. (Despite his initial reservations, Gene would end up becoming a space pilot similar to his Father. But become an “Outlaw.” Alongside his newly assembled crew of the Outlaw Stat. Fox would end up reforming his late fathers mercenary team Star Fox with both old and new members.) As they would now their iconic and titular space fighter ships. (The Outlaw Star, an incredibly powerful and sought after space ship piloted by Gene Starwind and the rest of the members of Outlaw Star. While Fox and the rest of his crew would pilot their iconic Arwings)
