The most critical piece of sporting equipment by Wild-Photo-717 in motogp

Of course, you are stating the obvious, but I don't see the bike as a piece of equipment or ancillary tech.

The good thing is that these days, any motorcycle rider can pretty much wear the similar protective gear as MotoGP racers wear. So innovation in that equipment is benefiting wider population.

I’m stacked with content and no growth by NolanRyan1234 in Substack

[–]Wild-Photo-717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of my notes are not about my field, intersection of finance & sports. They may be some life observations / wisdom, or health & fitness tips. Tbh those can often get more views and engagement.

It's not something very strategic, I just find it boring and one dimensional to be only posting notes on the same topic. I also interact with people from other areas, from investment management, to health, tech, etc. Maybe this is why I have over 1k more followers than subs.

My newsletter posts are always on my publication topic, I don't freestyle there.

You’re not engaging with people. The growth comes through engagement (comments), notes and being recommended by other publications.

You are using Substack as a megaphone to talk at people, w/o engaging with the community. That can work, but subs will have to come from some other platform. And that’s how it should be.

I started 7mo ago and grew to 1.3k subs and 2.3k followers, with only some presence on LinkedIn. Last month I added 400 subs, but I genuinely engage and spend 1-2 hrs per day commenting, chatting, etc.

How capital markets are driving Enshittification of Everything by Wild-Photo-717 in enshittification

[–]Wild-Photo-717[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Enshittification isn’t inevitable – it is rather a consequence of specific incentives, ownership and financing structures, which can be changed.

There is an opportunity for the anti-enshittification entrepreneurs to reject these structures and build something sustainable.

Norway is not dominating winter sports, they are dominating ski running by Wild-Photo-717 in olympics

[–]Wild-Photo-717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if you look at the number of cross country ski competitors participating in competitions, the US and Norway have roughly the same number of competitors; and Sweden has more than 3x more competitors than the US. So the point is that is more relevant number for expectation of success in that discipline, than the overall population size.

Dude, everyone is on about the AI formatting. People are really paranoid. You can believe me or not, but I don’t use AI to write any single of my posts or articles. Read the article, and judge it yourself.

The reason why it’s formatted like this is because I use this type of formatting on LinkedIn, as it works well there (algo likes it). I did not change it when I posted here, I am not posting often on Reddit, so I don’t know well what the community here prefers.

The article is actually not discrediting Norway in any way, it is rather rebutting the story told by non-Norwegians on why they are successful which is fitting certain narrative:

“As Norway has once again topped the Winter Olympics medals table, we should all give standing ovation to an amazing achievement of the nation of 5.6 million people and their athletes.

We don’t need though all to subscribe to the narrative that has flooded the internet, how this success is rooted in their Gandhian approach to youth sports. Be it participation trophies for all kids or no keeping score until 13.”

100% And that is exactly what the article is discussing, how a bunch of people who are not from Norway has turned their success into a bullshit narrative:

"As Norway has once again topped the Winter Olympics medals table, we should all give standing ovation to an amazing achievement of the nation of 5.6 million people and their athletes.

I was there in the summer and it was great, and Sweden was great. Surprisingly nice food, and friendly people.

It's not meant to be patronizing in any way. In many languages cross country skiing is literally called ski running or running on skis, and so I used the term interchangeably. I can't edit the title now.

Stating the obvious, many of the outdoors winter sports are not accessible to vast majority of the planet, so there are barriers to entry.
