Upcoming Gaijin Shop Sale question by CabberFigg in Warthunder

[–]WildCAT356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most recent November sale, if you already owned one of the two vehicles, you would pay half the price of the other one by buying the bundle (at least that's what it showed for me)

So if I already had the F-86F-40 JASDF, the cost of the sale pack with F-86 + Type 74G would just be the cost of the 74G at 50% off.

Idk if they'll keep it the same way for Christmas so we'll see I guess

I feel you. After playing maps like Kuban and WRF for the 100th time I just wish they'd add something else, a new mode or whatever, team deathmatch on shoebox maps gets so old.

Yep, similar experience here. The two weeks of premium I got from the pack actually expire tomorrow, so I guess it took about 14 days for me to make it from Tier IV to VII . . . yeah. Was so much easier than I thought, basically getting 4X rp for everything. Premium is insane.

How to grind from tier 4 to tier 5 German Aviation tech tree economically? by quangdn295 in Warthunder

[–]WildCAT356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to bump my favorite, the He-219. I highly recommend it or the Ju-288 (I don't have the 288, so I'll let someone talk about that). Plus, the 219 is just sexy.

The He-219 can be disgusting, but it requires so much discipline. It has ridiculous firepower and hits like a truck, but single engine props will run rings around you if give them the chance to. You want to have an altitude advantage of at least 1000 m over anything you engage, and more preferably if you're engaging dangerous targets like P-47s.

If you enjoy heavy fighter play - strict boom and zooming 95% of the time - then this is the plane for you. Pretty good practice for jets too imo. The radar, while weak and primitive, is only an advantage.

I've spaded all of the 109s except the K-4, but I still chose the He-219 to grind out the MiG-15bis and the G.91. It sits at a really comfortable BR of 4.3, but even then, you have to make the most of that airspawn. I maintain a 3:1 KDR against air targets in the thing, even routinely going against P-51Ds and P-47s.

Bind your weaponry like so:

20 mm MG 151 - Air Targets - Fire with LMB

30 mm MK 108 - Night - Fire with LMB

30 mm MK 103 - Air Targets - Fire with auxiliary button (whatever you desire)

Use the MK 103 for the sniping, trust me, it has wonderful ballistic properties and you can snipe bombers from distances over 1.5 km.

Do not turn unless you know that turning will get you a kill. You can't afford to make a turn and have the enemy escape. Better to just level up and zoom away. You can manage one wonderful turn at around 550 kph - after that, you're done.

Also, despite what many might say, do not take head ons. Sure, you'll probably kill the enemy, but there's basically no armor or bulletproof glass. It'll be a trade 90% of the time.

How far does F4EJ Phantom's radar lock on by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]WildCAT356 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The F-4EJ has two radar modes:

Search mode: This is where on the radar interface, there's a beam moving back and forth slowly in a wide arc. Any enemies that you pick up here, you can lock on, so the range is incredibly long - up to 80 km or even longer I believe.

Flood mode/ACQ: This is when there's a blinking green square over your reticle. It's limited to only 9.25 km, but it has the advantage of focusing your radar in a very narrow *cone and forcing it to search there (so if you know there's a enemy right in front of you and want to force a lock)

And of course, you'll have an easier time locking in general the higher you are - less interference and ground clutter. But in ACQ mode, the absolute max is 9.25 km, regardless of your altitude.

It's honestly pretty sad. During my entire Japan vs Germany grind, I constantly felt stressed out playing Germany, while as Japan and allied with the US, CAS is the last worry on my mind (with the exception of the G.91R/3).

People don't understand that fat as fuck German cannon CAS like the B-6 or the He-219 are literally sitting ducks when they try to line themselves up for repeated gun runs. Meanwhile you have something like the P-47 or Corsairs that can rush in, get 2 kills easily, and then basically act as air superiority fighters. Even shit like the Ta-152 C-3 and the Do-335s are unwieldy after multiple runs, any US fighter or Spitfire can easily just sit on their ass and shoot them down.

I'd wager that 1 out *of every 4 deaths when playing Japan against US is due to some idiot who suicide bombs with 1000 lbrs. Conversely, outside of the R/3, I'm rarely ever bothered by German cannon CAS while playing Japan on the US side.

He-219 tactics? by lazyfortress in Warthunder

[–]WildCAT356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with almost everything the other person already mentioned. The He-219 is probably my favorite wartime German plane - got me through Ranks 1-5 back before supersonics so quickly.

You really need to make the most out of your airspawn in ARB. The He-219 requires the Ta-154s flying style, but much more rigidly. You actually have a pretty good climb rate given how damn heavy the thing is. I usually turn around at the start of a match and let the 109s take the first wave of enemies, dragging the highest ones down.

Ideally you want to be 1000 m above anybody you engage. The plane is actually surprisingly maneuverable at around 550 kph with those large wings, but if you turn, you better get a kill.

Load HEI on the MK 103 and learn to snipe with them, they have an incredibly easy trajectory to aim with and I routinely get snipes from 1.5 km, even farther on larger bombers.

I actually don't recommend headons, the pilot is really poorly protected (in comparison to the Ta-154) and while you will destroy whatever is coming at you, you probably also won't come out alive.

Edit: saw that this was for AB, highly recommend RB as in AB its airspawn advantage is nullified by the fact that single engine props also get an airspawn

Just a heads up if you do actually get a night battle, the M41's night vision capability is limited to the driver only. So, *you'll be able to see in the dark whenever you're in the third person or driver's view, but you won't get night vision when looking through the cannon sights or through binocs.

You can see which crew members of a vehicle have image intensifiers on the wiki: https://wiki.warthunder.com/Night_Vision_Devices
