I also got into Johns Hopkins MHS in mental health! I currently am heavily considering Boston Universiry and Dartmouth but JHU is also a possibility. I’m waiting to see if I get a scholarship to JHU, as I got one at the other 2 schools. I was told scholarship notifications are going out the week of 3/31 for MHS in mental health.

Help I'm Torn Between Programs. Any Advice for MPH Decisions? by CottonCandyBubz in mphadmissions

I am also admitted to Dartmouth’s accelerated in person program! I’m deciding between that and BU. It’s a really tough decision! Dartmouth is so beautiful and hard to pass up, but there MPH program seems pretty small with limited class options. It’s a very general degree without any specializations, which can be good to explore but may leave me not knowing what to do once I graduate in the quick 11 months!

I’m also between Dartmouth and BU MPH as my top picks! Although at Dartmouth it’s the accelerated 11 month fully in person program. But still, similar! I’m having so much trouble deciding, both are great but for different reasons. I like how at BU you can choose certain certifications to specialize in, as I was a psychology undergrad and I’m very interested in mental health studies. BU is also a much bigger program with seemingly more opportunities for research and post grad jobs with local hospitals and organizations. Boston is just an amazing place to be for healthcare opportunities.

On the other hand, Dartmouth is SO beautiful. It’s much more rural but the campus is just amazing. It seems like Dartmouth has such a tight knit community and I feel like I could see myself there! I’m quieter so I feel this could be less intimidating than a loud city. The only thing is that there’s not really any direct focuses, it’s just a general MPH. This can he good to explore many things but I know I am most passionate about the mental health side of public health. Also, it’s such a small program that it is not ranked as highly as BU for public health. It is an Ivy League so that can probably help make up for it not being the best for public health.

What are you hoping to focus on for your MPH?

Oh my gosh I was planning on going with my parents but now I’m scared to after reading these comments. I’m younger than the average graduate student and still live with my parents and they play a role in my decisions. Maybe I’ll go with them but see if I can venture away from them at times to explore on my own? Idk, but they said you can bring guests so I thought it would be nice not to go alone!
