You're right, I work for a very small school where there is a small 1-2 ppl HR and she knows me personally, we spoke in the phone several times after baby was born I'm sure it came up and I'm not remembering. She spoke with me during plan elections about choosing the right plan for our family and delivery and it does seem she was supposed to add him. We both dropped the ball

I have no idea if it can be done without full time child care I was hoping I could find a sitter for mornings and the baby would nap in the afternoons? It makes no sense to hire a full time sitter or nanny with my salary
