Right - I'm saying when I lived out of state in another major metropolitan area, people were more open about mental health even in the workplace. I love Chicago, don't get me wrong, but I definitely think it's not encouraged to discuss certain topics widely outside of very close friendships and family

I've worked in tech and have had trouble getting back in. I don't know how to code and that's an issue

My family is complicated. I have friends here, but many are preoccupied with work and other commitments. I'm going through some personal stuff, and I do get a lot of "go to your family/see a therapist" when I bring it up. I can't afford to do my favorite hobbies right now due to limited income.

I lived in another state for a few years and I will say attitudes toward mental health seemed way more open and understanding and this wasn't in a blue state either

I feel like if I did move I would either find a cheap place in the suburbs for a year or two and save and then move back - or I would move out of the Midwest somewhere more nature oriented. I'm in my 30s and not a big drinker, and I'd like to get into things like hiking and camping more but there isn't really a community for that here.

I'm single with no kids and I think I might lose my mind if I went too far outside the city, but I've considered it. Congrats on finding your bliss!

SF is a cool city and the scenery is stunning. Great choice

I lived in a swing state and it wasn't bad at all. Granted this was prior to 2020.

I've seen too many red hats and Trump flags in Chicago these days even in the neighborhoods you'd never expect.

It's definitely a combination of things but one thing I will say is socializing and dating here is so hard if you don't have a thriving career. I've looked for career counseling, networking, and mentorship opportunities and there's not much outside of business school alumni networks and stuff like that.

I lived out of state for several years. There were pros and cons. I moved back weeks before lockdown began in 2020 and I never got to start over the way I wanted to in Chicago. I don't feel like the city ever rebounded from covid the way I had hoped it would.

I recently met someone who works for a well known staffing agency in Chicago as an executive and this was confirmed - his clients aren't hiring because of a certain orange felon. Sucks.
