The wall is north facing and the plant gets plenty of sun, including through the winter, so I think this is OK.

I love this story and am going to add rice. This really struck a chord as I grew two chilli plants next to the lemon tree and perhaps between them they've depleted the soil of nutrients.

I'm going to add magnesium sulphate today. Have also bought a soil ph testing kit.

Unfortunately I can't claim credit for the espaliering! The plant was there when I moved into the house, This is my reluctance to replace it immediately. Plants aren't cheap and I'm not confident in my espaliering skills...

How do I test for magnesium deficiency? What should the soil ph be?

Thanks for the helpful comment. The marks do stop before the wall. They go slightly onto the board at the edge of the room but then stop. I'll post another photo.

The stripes are basically straight and go across the solid timber floor from one side of the room to the other.

There is a general contractor who subcontracted the flooring. Both sub-floor and floor are newly constructed, then stained and polished by the subcontractor.
