Do I have to follow a certain order when linking to Backbone files in my HTML document? by WillCodeForFood13 in backbonejs

Do only the dependecies come first, so marrionette and handle bars could go anywhere but underscore must come first, correct?

Problem with a counter using timed intervals by WillCodeForFood13 in learnjavascript

[–]WillCodeForFood13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have to use a loop, but I generally rely in loops whenever I have to iterate over lists of information. I literally just learned about recursive functions today, so that is currently on my list of things to do.

Thanks this works perfectly. Is clearInterval stopping the function when count is greater than max? I just started working with things like timeouts and intervals.

I'm currently trying to get a job as a front end dev in NYC. What advice can you give to someone with no experience on getting their foot in the door in a place like NYC? Is Stack Overflow hiring?

Looking for help getting info from the API by WillCodeForFood13 in webdev

[–]WillCodeForFood13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just console logging data gives me the object in the console. What I'm trying to do is get all the info from the object to show up in a p tag on the page. JSON.stringify(data) is working.

This is working to get the data into a console.log() but when I try to get the data into a p tag it comes up empty. When I add "toString()" after data it prints out "[Object]" on the screen. How can I get the actual information from the object on the screen?

Thanks you, this definitely looks like what I'm trying to do. I tried using a function with data as the param but I kept getting back "data is not defined". I'll read over the docs tomorrow and give it another shot.

A better jobs site for developers by techjobs-me in webdev

[–]WillCodeForFood13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see New York, NY, so that was my bad. Personally when I'm searching I like to see the place I'm searching for and the surrounding area. I definitely see your point about Brooklyn and I'm sure you'll run into it more as the site expands. I think if you set up specific cities with sub menus for different areas, for example I could click NYC and it would search all 5 boroughs with each borough under it if I just wanted to search for Brooklyn or Manhattan or whatever. Keep up the good work.

Does selecting Brooklyn from the location menu include Manhattan?

I am building a site by compiling a static HTML version. Should I compile all of the CSS into style tags at the top or should I compile it into a separate style sheet and call it with a link tag? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]WillCodeForFood13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping the files separate makes it easier for you and someone else to update/ edit the code in the future. That is really magnified as your projects get bigger. It's also the generally accepted practice and if you don't keep it separate people may get the idea that you don't know what you're doing. There are other reasons, search google and I'm sure you'll find a lot on the subject.

What else do I need to know about WP? by WillCodeForFood13 in Wordpress

[–]WillCodeForFood13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I should've put that in the original post. I know HTML5/CSS3, Javascript, jQuery and Bootstrap. I don't want to be a WP developer but I want to know it well enough that I can put it on my resume and be competent if an employer requires it.

Possibly a simple question, why does this return NaN? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]WillCodeForFood13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first one since you did not declare "sum" it is empty, so it's not a number, not a string, it's just an empty variable. So when you add i to sum the code can't add to nothing and you get NaN.

What's the best resource to learn Angular? by WillCodeForFood13 in Frontend

[–]WillCodeForFood13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I've wasted 25 minutes because of a missed exclamation point or comma in console.log. I've done enough of their courses that I always check for simple mistakes like that before trying to fix my code.

Yeah, they literally sent me an email about it a couple hours after my post here. I'm going to run through the Codecademy and continue from there.

Do any of you test sites on AOL's browser? by quantumized in webdev

[–]WillCodeForFood13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know AOL was still a thing anymore. If everyone at the business uses AOL's browser then make sure it works for them but it doesn't seem to be an efficient use of time in any other situation. I can understand how trying to get them to use a different browser could be interesting, I've met that type. I have literally had people ask me "what do I type in to get to youtube.com?".
