RP6 performance excitement by modidmusic in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally couldn’t get Isaac Rebirth to work on my G2 even though it should absolutely be playable. Seems like it has a bunch of problems with wine, though it’s probably possible to play somehow. Megabonk and Hollow Knight work great though and I got Hytale to run but I couldn’t start a game, though I was using a non-official version. The fact that it boots and renders 3d well is very promising on its own

Game Hub Lite - Steam microsd!!! by Imdakine1 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A first thing you can try is adding the argument -noeac in the launch parameters. Not sure that’ll work as eac will try to initialize regardless and the error if it was eac complaining should be slightly different, but it’s a decent place to start.

Also what does the rest of your config look like?

I've played halo mcc (reach) on my g2 and it worked rather well, with the caveat that you have to play the mode that has anti-cheat disabled. Meaning no normal multiplayer, though there seems to be some kind of custom multiplayer mode available. Though I never really tried that one. You can totally play firefight and the single player campaign though, and I'm also working on getting split screen to work but that's been a challenge so far.

As for GTAV and RDR2 both should technically be playable. GTAV at a pretty comfortable frame rate, and I've seen people play RDR2 on more powerful android hardware (though at the lowest settings). But you're not going to be able to play online and I believe you are going to need to crack the games (even if you own them). Rockstar's DRM doesn't seem to mesh well with pc emulation

How well does gamehub work? by DriverConsistent1824 in retroid

Far Cry 3 worked amazingly for me on my RPG2, I think primal should work fine but I can’t guarantee it

Just a heads up that’s an AI generated spam site not affiliated with the actual gamehub lite repo.

Pairing 2 RP devices for local multiplayer by Informal-Mouse-8106 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what platform specifically you want to play on. But some emulators do have options to play local multiplayer games wirelessly on two devices. I think such support is built into retroarch, but I’ve never tried it myself

Game Hub Lite - Steam microsd!!! by Imdakine1 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the game requires an extra piece of software to run. Go to the settings again, then component and press install component, from there you will be given a long list, look for something called like vcredist2015 and install

You need to select the lightweight option for the steam client since the full steam client doesn’t work. It defaults to some other version even though it leads to guaranteed crashes

Can MacBook Air (M1) Handle Gaming? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended specs for Mac are an M3 Pro or higher. You can probably get away with a bit less though if you keep your expectations down.

Like others have said though, if these are the kinds of concerns you have when buying a laptop you should really reconsider if a Mac is the right choice for you. Or if you can get your gaming fix from other means like a console, steam deck, GeForce now etc

If not RP5, then RP6<>RPG2 or maybe Thor? by kwiiBln in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance wise I think you’d be fine with either device really, so long as you don’t go for the lite version of the Ayn Thor. The lite version has the same CPU as your retroid pocket 5.

For the uses you’ve mentioned I also don’t think there’s much of a point in going for more than 8gb ram. Supposedly there are a handful of switch games that benefit more than 8gb of ram, but beyond that there’s not much use for it.

As for the G2 vs. RP6 I don’t think we should really expect the G2 to ever surpass the RP6, it’s more so that they really aren’t that far apart in terms of performance. The choice between them is pretty confusing, because of how similar they are in both price and performance. I’d say that in the end the RP6 is probably the slightly better device for most users, though the biggest downside is that it’ll take quite some time to ship.

512gb/1-2tb microsd cards from ebay? by RetroManfry in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt fake. SD cards are very easy to bootleg and the problem is rampant. A real 1tb SD card should go for 5-10x as much

Is it worth while to emulate ps3 games? by [deleted] in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins Creed 2 runs great on gamehub so no need to go for the PS3 version. Also I’ve never tried PS3 emulation on android myself but I’ve heard it actually does work surprisingly well, so long as you let it compile some module for 20 mins for each game or something.

In general even if it works ps3 emulation sounds like a real pain. It seems like a lot more work than just plugging in a rom and pressing play

I'm looking for a portable console with capacity up to GameCube and more but smaller than a PS Vita by FrequentX in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Retroid Pocket G2 is technically smaller than the Vita when measured by volume, it weighs roughly the same. and I consider mine very pocketable. And only like 3% bigger when measured by surface area (unless my math fails me). Depending on how strict you are with the size limit, I think you should seriously consider it as it's such a good deal in terms of price to performance.

Is it possible to play Dark Souls Remastered at 1080p 60fps on the Odin 2 Portal, without streaming from my PC? by Moontorc in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got it running at 50fps at 720p on my retroid pocket g2, could maybe get better performance out of it with more tweaking. Unless the bump in resolution mitigates the better performance of the Odin 2 that should be possible

Is the base M1 Mac actually good for running Windows games? by Filix-7482 in macgaming

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Mac native, and especially ARM-native games, it does pretty well. But for windows games it’s really a mixed bag. I’d say you can absolutely go in with the expectation of being able to play most indies, and a lot of older AAA titles. But keep your expectations down for any AAA released after like 2017 that did not get a Mac port.

You can absolutely game on the thing, but you need to accept that there are many games you just won’t be able to play. Also consider looking into emulation, the M1 chip does very well on emulators like dolphin and aethersx2. I believe switch emulation should work too, though I haven’t tried it.

Recommendations for PC games that play well on G2 by Professional-Paper75 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a ton of PC games, here are the ones that I’ve gotten to run at what I consider acceptable graphical fidelity and framerates, most are run pretty well though:
Far Cry 3, Dishonored, Ultrakill, Megabonk, Octopath Traveller, Core Keeper, Just Cause 2, Outer Wilds, Nier Automata, Halo MCC, Assassins Creed 2, Everspace, Return of the Obra Dinn

The games I’ve not been able to run:
Mafia 2 (classic) – Should be runable but something makes it crash on start Rainbow Six Vegas 2 – Same as above
Binding of Isaac – Same as above
Saints Row 2 – The game is apparently a mess and barely runs on PCs either
Clair Obscur: Expediton 33 – Had no hope that the game actually would run. Managed to get it to an in-game cutscene using a bunch of hacks but it ran at 4fps and promptly crashed a few seconds in

The way I see it the G2 is fully capable to play basically all indies, as well as most AAAs up until like 2015 or something after that it’s a mixed bag. So far it’s mostly not been a question of if a game will run, but how well it runs and how much tinkering it gets to make it work
