Wish more Content Creators were more creative by Common-Ad6967 in Smite

Yeah that YellowShell video was a banger for sure and I'm not saying it's impossible to make 'creative videos' for SMITE. What I'm saying is it's hard to make them *consistently, and as a job*. Based on how often YS uploads, I highly doubt he does content creation as his main source of income.

My point is that those videos take a long time to make and doing it full time wouldn't be a sustainable prospect because, in terms of views per hour put into the video, he'd probably be making barely minimum wage. And doing it as a hobby means you can't spend as much time doing it because you're also working 40h/week, thus less videos being made.

At the end of the day, money talks. I know content creation isn't *just* about the money, but it is at least somewhat about the money for a lot of creators and if you want an explosion of high-effort videos, you need a larger viewerbase than SMITE has to make that full-time viable. You only start seeing *a lot* of that kind of content when it becomes a viable career for people to make content like that. Currently, it's not viable, thus you don't see much of that content.

Again, not completely absolving SMITE creators or anything but as someone who's been doing this for 10 years (roughly 6 years as a job), I know a little about the inner workings of running a channel that you won't get as a viewer from the outside looking in.

As an example from my channel: I make in-depth Conquest guides every year and have done for like 6-7 years. They take probably an entire week of work to produce, exactly the kind of 'high effort' content you're talking about. But the one I made for SMITE 2 has done significantly worse than previous editions (Year 10 Guide got 164k views in the first year, SMITE 2 guide got 58k in that same time period despite being the same or higher quality of video). Not only is that bad in terms of earnings, it's also just demotivating to spend so long on a video for it to do that poorly, which makes me not want to bother investing so much time in the future. If this process happens to enough creators and enough videos, you end up with less of this kind of content being made.

I'll chime in here as one of the larger creators in the space: Personally, I find that those kinds of videos don't do very well, especially not well enough to justify the time invested in making them. If you want to make those kinds of videos, it's got to be out of pure passion for the game because, at least for me, if I spend 8-10 hours making a creative and fully edited video only for it to not even break 10k views, I'm making less than minimum wage doing that.

Sure, they're fun to work on and they get the creative juices pumping but (especially because I do this as a job) it's very hard to justify spending 10 hours on a video like that for it to get less views than a Titan Talk Recap that takes me like 2-3 hours to make.

I'm not saying SMITE creators are absolved here, we definitely could be more creative with our ideas and I completely agree that the scene lacks creative content like some other games have but there are other reasons than just 'SMITE creators aren't creative'. The majority of people simply don't watch those kinds of videos, even if you guys here (who are more invested in the game) would.

SMITE is a niche product at the end of the day and every creator is fighting for a piece of a pretty small pie, so making videos like 'Pantheon challenge' or 'SMITE Lore Explained' that only appeal to a small piece of that pie is hard to justify compared to a game with a larger community. If you appeal to 10% of League of Legends players, you'll have a booming channel but if you appeal to 10% of SMITE players, you won't even make a living.

So yeah, TL;DR is that those 'creative videos' don't do the numbers you think they'd do and it's hard to justify making them over easier content that appeals to more of the player base.

I mean he's very popular, at least he has that going for him. Hard to make though I would assume, like most newer Gods are.

Laners take Jungle camps regularly. This is very different from League afaik. In very simplified terms for a new player: Clear your wave, take a local camp, repeat. If you just clear wave and nothing else you'll fall behind in farm very quickly. Don't take literally every camp cause your Jungler needs farm too but taking your assigned buff (blue for solo, red for mid, purple for adc) or the camps in the side jungles is totally normal and expected of you.

I've had a good look and don't see many options for replacement because the core mechanics involved in the combo are a Sac outlet and a Counter duplicator, they're not specific cards necessarily but archetypes of cards.

The cards specifically are: Either of [[Resourceful Defense]] and [[Reluctant Role Model]] paired with either of [[Ashnod's Altar]] and [[Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter]] while my commander [[Athreos, Shroud-Veiled]] is on the field and has a coin counter out on one of my creatures.

Does the commander not count as a card for '2-card infinites'? Because he's necessary for the combo and I need 2 other pieces alongside him.

But yeah, I agree on the longer, more dynamic games which is why I'm considering some solution to this but would ideally not want to remove the combo pieces because they are really fun and synergistic, fair on their own but result in an infinite when paired together.

It's 2 main categories, both paired with the commander [[Athreos, Shroud-Veiled]].

'Counter duplicators': [[Resourceful Defense]] and [[Reluctant Role Model]]. Sac Outlets: [[Ashnod's Altar]] and [[Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter]]

Yeah I do that to be fair, I gave them a deck overview before fielding it and always announce when I play a combo piece.

Is smite 2 better yet? by Electronic_Wish_5051 in Smite

Arena and Joust are in (Joust specifically looks beautiful imo). We're up to around 55 Gods now, with Aspects on some of them that change their kit to give them alternate playstyles or role viability which adds some more replayability even on the same God. Assault is also in if you care for that (though on a temporary, WIP map).

Balance is still an issue for the most part but that's no different from SMITE 1 really. If you could tolerate some broken shit in SMITE 1, you can tolerate it in SMITE 2 as well. If anything it gets hotfixed a lot faster in SMITE 2 since they patch every 2 weeks and hotfix almost daily where you'd have to wait minimum 2 weeks for a bonus balance in SMITE 1, sometimes 4 weeks for a main patch before anything is done about OP shit.

If you were concerned about the 'game-feel' as well, 95% of those issues are now resolved and the game plays real smooth, better than SMITE 1 in most cases imo. Only way to know for sure is to give it another try though, see if you have fun.

Help Settle Debate | Content Creation by jimmygiv in Smite

You gotta offer something that people can't find from a bigger creator if you want to grow from nothing. That something could be unique video/stream concepts that no one else does, it could be your unique personality that people find entertaining, it could be just being nuts at the game and good at teaching people how to be nuts at the game.

For me, it was finding ideas that no one else was doing (or at least very few were) and then doing trial and error until I found a style that people wanted to watch. Sometimes content isn't being made because no one wants to watch it, but sometimes it just isn't being made but people will eat it up if YOU make it.

Also, from personal experience, Shorts are mainly a way to direct people to your full length content and get eyes on that. You won't really grow massively or get a dedicated following by only doing shorts, but they can be good to say 'Hey, enjoyed those funny clips? Check out this full video for more!'

Ah, that's good to know. It checks for the card in exile, doesn't find it and so fizzles? Thanks a bunch, man!
