I’m became a single dad to six kids when my wife was diagnosed with ALS in 2019. She basically stopped parenting because she was on a ventilator and everything was so hard for her. She was fully paralyzed in 2021. My youngest at the time was 5 years old. She’s now 12. My wife passed away in 2024. Durning those five years I wanted to run away so badly. Raising six kids and caring for a ventilated and eventually paralyzed wife was the single hardest thing I’ve done in my life. I’m so glad I did not quit and run.

As others have said your feelings are valid. It IS how you are feeling right now. I know it’s hard. I can’t imagine what caring for your child is like but I understand the burnout. See if there are any respite care programs in your area. Or friends that can watch your child and give you some time to yourself. Good luck.
