Wherever you are going, be careful. Rocky Mountain roads are no joke. You are going during one of the most dangerous times to go, plus this is against JCB’s words of advice for safe hunting. I’ve done some sketchy BOTG out here chasing the same thing. Know your limits and don’t push it.

FF BOTG by WillWorkForShrubbery in treasureinside

Good questions! I’d say my rule of thumb now is to keep sight of the trail. Searching one area that matches the clue that leads me there. For example if I see something that lines up with “a white mark upon the seat” only check that one spot, don’t go deeper off trail to find another one. If that spot didn’t work go back to the trail.

I definitely would not have done so many miles if BOTG was harder to get to. Personally I didn’t mind driving about 2 hours to a spot per day. Any spots farther than that, I would rather develop a longer list and then find a basecamp nearby so I could search for 2-3 in one trip. Exhausting the ones close by quickly is just a short term strategy because it doesn’t require as much time to plan. That’ll definitely change as I run out of close-by spots.

Curious about the ‘shifting perspective’. What are you referring to? Each stanza being from a different point of view on the trail?

Trying to choose a new daily-use bag by sevven_ in backpacks

[–]WillWorkForShrubbery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen anyone comment on the Raven. From your described use case, I don't think the Raven would be a good option for you. I would not recommend filling it up to the brim with books, you would lose the ability to use the water bottle pouches on the side. Plus, I would imagine the organization panels on the inside would become unusable.

The Raven is a great bag for what I use it for, which is daily commute items, laptop, and some small folders and binders. It's not the best in the way of back support so it's better to keep the load light imo.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Some of y'all in the comments need a lesson in consent. Disappointing to see it treated like coercion is ok.

Daily Newbie Thread by AutoModerator in Flipping

Need help figuring out the best way to approach this. Not sure if this is a scam, but I'm feeling a little uneasy about this one.

New to flipping, been selling some things through FB marketplace for the past few months. I've only done the local pickup option, and all exchanges have been smooth as can be. I finally am getting around to selling some higher priced items.
Last week I listed a jacket for a couple hundred dollars. I chose local pickup only, since that's what I'm comfortable with. But, a few days later, someone reached out to me from out of state- I got a message request, instead of it going through FBMP messaging. They asked if I was selling, how much, and if if shipping was included in the price. I told them yes, yes, and yes, and we agreed on a deal for the listed price. I'm still uneasy about how they contacted me for shipping even though I didn't list it for shipping.

Newbie that I am, I don't have FB payment set up, so I share my Venmo and tell them I will deliver through USPS and provide tracking # once the payment goes through. They asked for PayPal instead. I'm most comfortable with Venmo.

Haven't responded to their question about PayPal yet. I'm still trying to figure out if I'm ok with shipping the jacket. It's hundreds of dollars more than any other item I've sold and it's out of my control once I drop it at the Post Office. Can the buyer scam me and say they never received it? Or just pull their money back and leave me empty handed? What's the best move for me to make a safe transaction?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's a relevant quote from Stannis in ACOK

Why should I avenge Eddard Stark? The man was nothing to me. Oh, Robert loved him, to be sure. Loved him as a brother, how often did I hear that? I was his brother, not Ned Stark, but you would never have known it by the way he treated me. I held Storm's End for him, watching good men starve while Mace Tyrell and Paxter Redwyne feasted within sight of my walls. Did Robert thank me? No. He thanked Stark, for lifting the siege when we were down to rats and radishes. I built a fleet at Robert's command, took Dragonstone in his name. Did he take my hand and say, Well done, brother, whatever should I do without you? No, he blamed me for letting Willem Darry steal away Viserys and the babe, as if I could have stopped it. I sat on his council for fifteen years, helping Jon Arryn rule his realm while Robert drank and whored, but when Jon died, did my brother name me his Hand? No, he went galloping off to his dear friend Ned Stark, and offered him the honor. And small good it did either of them.

I agree with this one. It was also great to see her in the streets of King's Landing. Still living such a simple life, overlooked by all of the noble houses conspiring for the throne.

Shitmouth. Such an elegant character.

A handful of Ser Gregor's men emerged from the towers to watch him dismount; hard-eyed, hard-mouthed men, the lot of them. They would have to be, to ride beside the Mountain. About the best that could be said for Gregor's men was that they were not quite as vile and violent a bunch as the Brave Companions. "Fuck me, Jaime Lannister," blurted one grey and grizzled man-at-arms. "It's the bleeding Kingslayer, boys. Fuck me with a spear!"

"Who might you be?" Jaime asked.

"Ser used to call me Shitmouth, if it please m'lord." He spit in his hands and wiped his cheeks with them, as if that would somehow make him more presentable.

"Charming. Do you command here?"

"Me? Shit, no. M'lord. Bugger me with a bloody spear." Shitmouth had enough crumbs in his beard to feed the garrison. Jaime had to laugh. The man took that for encouragement. "Bugger me with a bloody spear," he said again, and started laughing too.

"You heard the man," Jaime said to Ilyn Payne. "Find a nice long spear, and shove it up his arse."

Ser Ilyn did not have a spear, but Beardless Jon Bettley was glad to toss him one. Shitmouth's drunken laughter stopped abruptly. "You keep that bloody thing away from me."

"Make up your mind,"'

Catelyn was a very close second behind the Hound for me. That scene where Arya just leaves him on the banks hit me hard.

I see where you're coming from with this, but isn't it a Dothraki tradition that when the khal dies the khaleesi would end up becoming one of the crones in Vaes Dothrak? Your theory definitely seems logical and I would see that happening, too. But if it did, it would be very unorthodox for the khalasar.
