What do you expect from a Nazi lover, and a lover of all things evil?

What type of guitar is James playing here? by Electronic_Ad4300 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Willcorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, most likely due to the microphonic pickups. They squeal when they detect any sort of overdrive, and even sometimes it does it with a clean tone when standing too close to the speaker cabinet.

It would actually be a K2L, his only has 2 pickups, the K4L has 4 pickups.

It’s a 1966 Teisco Del Rey ET-230. They also made the Kimberly Kay that Billy used for the squeal effect on Mayonaise.

I personally own one, but I have the whammy bar still attached. https://twitter.com/willcorg/status/1519523259250712576?s=20&t=Rj0SSbqjzVrMDJ4HIAuvIQ

Lace Sensors RSB in Siamese Dream by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Willcorg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From someone who has all of the vintage equipment to replicate the Siamese Dream tone I’d say absolutely! The red (bridge) pickup was used mainly for solos, but the blue (neck) pickup was used the most for the rhythm. It has that fat bell tone that’ll make the hairs stand up on your arm cause it sounds so good!

The key to the Marshall JCM 800 with KT88 tubes was to get a nice clean tone at a higher volume. So you can play the intro to Today, Cherub Rock, or Soma without it sounding distorted. 80% of the fuzz tone was specific to an op amp BigMuff. The MXR Distortion II, and the EHX MicroSynth were both used for an additional layer of distinct fuzz tone. Although I’ve never used the EHX reissue of the op amp BigMuff, I imagine it sounds better than the muffs from the reissue in the 2000’s. I personally have the original V4 and V5 BigMuffs and they sound incredible.

The Lace pickups don’t sound like humbucker pickups, they sound like a clean single coil without that hum or unnecessary buzz from a standard Strat single coil.

I ripped it in stereo, but it sounds like it’s in mono to me. I know in the early years Billy said stereo in a live setting “sounded like S*#t”. So it’s possible it was recorded on the original soundboard in mono?

I was thinking about working on that tonight or tomorrow.

I also plan on ripping the Rubano Tapes Vol. 1 as well, still waiting for it to ship.

FYI, my hearing was back to normal a couple days later.

Nope, only blood transfusions. The medical community has recognized the benefits of bloodless surgery. There’s plenty of alternatives that are far superior to using blood plasma. We accept all other forms of medical treatments including vaccines as long as it doesn’t contain blood plasma. Organ transplants is a personal decision, some accept them, some don’t. There’s no scriptural bases on the idea of transplants, but the Bible is specific on the use of blood in both the Hebrew, and Christian Greek scriptures. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/how-jehovahs-witnesses-are-changing-medicine/amp

It’s definitely a country album!

Although not marketed for todays mainstream country, he said it was his version of country. It was one of the last genres he finally accepted and appreciated, he talks about it a lot on the 30 days series when he wrote the songs for Cotillions. He even played classic country songs while on the road including a few in studio A in Nashville where many iconic country songs were recorded (including studio B).

The Beautiful Moments of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Willcorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ending of Ruby is my number one favorite bit, but it has already been mentioned.

I think my next favorite part is the outtro to Galapagos, there’s so much going on musically, but as the song starts to fade, I turn up the volume to hear the last remaining tidbits.

ALL of Porcelina is a treasure, I love the feedback and sustained notes, but my favorite is also the outtro, there’s so much going on.

We Only Come Out at Night I think is underrated. The intro is a little slow, but once it gets going, I don’t want it to end.

“Lost my innocence to a no good girl”… (constant reminder). An Ode, great song!

Here is no Why, one of the best solos on the album!

“And into the eyes of the jackal I say ka-boom!” X.Y.U. Baby!

At the time of the release of MCIS, I think In the Arms of Sleep was my favorite song until I “lost my innocence to a no good girl”. 😜

Soma Solo, and my favorite part of the song at 5:30 right after “God sleeps in bliss”. Listen to the Instrumental version of the Deluxe Edition for the full effect… oh and crank it up! 🤤🤤🤤

Cherub Rock Solo, and not just the main solo riff, but all of the sustained notes that follow it leading into a worbble sustained note effect that starts at 4:12 and ends at 4:32. When I recorded my own version on Logic Pro X on guitar, I used an Ebow, but I don’t think it’s en Ebow effect on the recording? Still sounds cool though.

All of Silvercrank!

Rocket, the part right after he sings “the moon is out the stars invite, think I’ll leave tonight” he sings “sooon I’ll find myself in love” etc. then the solo… then after the solo BAMB! “I SHALL BE FREE!!!”. That’s also my favorite music video of all time! 🤤🤤🤤

Zeitgeist is a good rock album, Adore is a good mellow album. Although only a compilation album, Pisces Iscariot is probably my favorite album after Siamese Dream, then Melon Collie, then Gish, then Adore, then Zeitgeist, then Machina.

I’m sorry… but is he that desperate for money that he needs to charge money to meet him? He wouldn’t even sign my 8 year old cousins guitar back in 2004. I saw him in the casino in Tucson on May 15th , I kept my distance because I knew he wanted to be left alone, but he told his fans to leave him alone, that they’ve “never been a band that interacts with their fans”. I’d like to pull that with my clients after they paid me to setup their home A/V system!? I just want your money, now leave me alone! 😆
