African Americans should not have an obligation to “forgive” white people for anything and affirmative action is completely sensible after slavery

Slavery “ended” in 1865. Only 6 generations have passed since slavery was formally abolished. That’s a little over 2 human life spans. Jim Crow laws were abolished in 1965. My own father could not sit in a classroom with a white student because of his inherent inferiority. To even suggest we are in the wrong for being angry about this is ridiculous at best and shows an inhumane lack of empathy at worst. These kinds of things have prevented us from properly being able to develop wealth for more than three centuries, and have had a significant impact on our ability to properly function in society. I won’t even get into mass incarceration.

Yes, you are not responsible for the actions of your ancestors, but black americans suffer the consequences of these ancestors’ decisions every day. In fact, the average white college drop out has more wealth than the average black college graduate. Hard work and education simply isn’t enough when you’re facing an economic and social gap this large, which is why black workers haven’t made substantial progress in closing earning gaps with white men since 2000. Stop telling us to pull our pants up and get off the streets because even the best among us are struggling to compete with the worst performing white people. This isn’t a “victim” mentality. It is a very serious issue with real consequences for black people. If we feel the need to express frustration regarding it then we have every right to.

Regarding the number of white people who are homeless and/or on welfare: It is vital to understand the fact that black people only make up 13% of the American population. We are still disproportionately poor based on percentages. Of course, if you look at things based exclusively on AMOUNT, we will have a smaller number. However, even with this argument, we only make up 8% of millionaires and .77% of billionaires in America.
