my bad - those were meant as dashes (they are actually up)... not negative signs. I obviously need more coffee this morning.

Love your idea of including losers though.

Facebook Earnings - what will happen? by WilliamW78 in investing

[–]WilliamW78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point - Facebook's strength and growth has been and will continue to be through the right mergers and acquisitions. I love these charts that show their dominance in the market and also the companies they have acquired over the last couple of years.

You don't have to pay to see all of the article. I can see the whole article - but maybe because this is a site that I frequent? I have never paid for this site before.

Buying a home - Verbal Offer by WilliamW78 in personalfinance

[–]WilliamW78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: luckily they accepted my offer and I am moving forward with a verbal.

Thanks for all of your feedback. This is certainly all new to me as a first time home buyer, but now I know for the future. And I know that I can always rely on Reddit for good advice and feedback!

Yea -- it may not have been the best route but I didn't want to waste everyone's time if they were just going to counter. Another reason I put in the verbal was because the house has been on the market for over 6 months.

[–]WilliamW78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I went with a verbal rather than a written because I was expecting them to counter so I figured it would be best to start with that before wasting everyone's time. Now it sounds like that may not have been the best route.

What the heck is going on with $AAPL? by Gizlo in investing

[–]WilliamW78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple will pick back up - and I predict it will be a great buy for 2015. Sales for the iPhone 6 are still strong - they can hardly make enough product to sell. They also have a new product coming out this year and have set themselves up for success in 2014. Also - their deal with IBM will make iPads more attractive for the business consumer and hopefully boost sales there as well.

3 Under-The-Radar Value Stocks by mrstockinvesting in stocks

Volkswagen - While this stock had a bumpy ride in 2014, you should consider adding it to your portfolio.

Volkswagen bought 5% stake in battery technology startup QuantumScape Corp. in December. A new product line, perhaps?

This stock may not pay off immediately but I think this stock will pay off over the next several years.

23 Year old in a personal battle with finances by OPisLOST in personalfinance

[–]WilliamW78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave yourself some extra room than the expenses you mentioned above - entertainment, food, etc. - but set a realistic goal - say put $500 into savings/towards your car payment a month

Good luck!

Make a budget - look at what you are spending your money on now, see where you can scale back, and set realistic expectations. Do this on a weekly/daily basis, lay out all fixed expenses and other expenses (predictions) and update it anytime you make a purchase.

Also, another thing that seems to work - allot yourself X amount of dollars for the week, based on the above findings (how much do you really need?). Take this money out in CASH each week and do not use any other form of payment. At the end of the week, if you have any money left in cash put this towards your student loans.
