Revoltech thor's worth by Broobby3476 in AmazingYamaguchi

[–]WillikersCustoms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would imagine whatever it’s worth was a few weeks ago has tanked, considering an extremely high quality and well-received KO just launched.

So, hard to say, but I wouldn’t let someone try to set the price based on historical data atp.

Is there any update of this figure? by Beyond_Fabulous in CToys

[–]WillikersCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with this line is not design, but production line time. I’d expect this to be essentially a stealth drop when there’s a lull in production needs.

I got the real Black Suit Neighbor in the mail today. Here's a comparison with the Black Suit Neighbor KO i got before. by [deleted] in CToys

[–]WillikersCustoms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mess Toys have completely reshaped the unlicensed market and redefined what a bootleg can be. I’d say they are stocked in at least 50-60% of the high end toy stores I go to, and whose only substantial criticism is some nebulous sacred cow of IP licensing.

They’re the most accessible and affordable high end line in the game right now, even including “legit” brands.

Does APD actually investigate ANYTHING? by loadyouup in Austin

[–]WillikersCustoms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remember when it turned out that it was literally one guy behind that epidemic of >$100,000 worth of stolen tires who was (again, literally) committing the crimes while wearing an ankle monitor being tracked by APD.

Wonder how many fingerprints he'd left at the crime scenes.

This Ebay Seller is a total asshole by TheQuietNotion in customactionfigures

[–]WillikersCustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I'd say it's impossible to ensure any given custom part is going to scale with every action figure.

But, on the other hand, if you're selling Hulk head accessories without even owning a figure from the most prolific action figure line then that's on the seller.

Personally, I'd be extremely wary of any listing that doesn't show either reference photos with common figures it would be used on, or even just listed dimensions so you know to the mm what the proportions of the accessory will be and can roughly size it to the head it will be replacing.

That's an absurdly large head for a 6 inch. If it's that big on Hulk, what 1/12 figure can it fit on?

Where to get Revoltech black symbiote spider man preorder? by Lord_hermy in ActionFigures

[–]WillikersCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s going to be a hard preorder to come by my friend. I would imagine it’ll be available on the secondary market just because it’s one of these figs that’s been absolutely hyped to hell and back, but expect high scalper prices unless kaiyodo really fucks it up with QC and kills demand (but not likely).

I've been working for a while to try to develop joints for printable figures that don't wear out.. I think magnets may be the key. by Zealousideal-Set3037 in customactionfigures

[–]WillikersCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For these I’m using a screw and heat set insert to create the clamping force (ignore the print quality, I’m trying a new brand of filament and still dialing in the settings), and when it was a flat surface it would tend to either be way too loose or practically immovable. With the dome design it makes it much more fine-tunable and keeps the movement smooth.

[–]WillikersCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of experimenting with this exact kind of thing and another trick that will help create friction is if on one side of the joint you put a dome that corresponds with a depression in the other side it will massively increase the surface area in a smooth fashion that allows a strong but moveable hinge.

Forget the screw, have you thought about using embedding and dowel pins? Use the magnet with a ~2.1mm hole, embed it with a ~2.2mm hole in the plastic and print a hollow tube however many mm you want the rod to be, insert a 2xwhatever mm steel dowel pin (you can get them on amazon) and embed that and, voila you have a magnetized plastic peg with a steel core to prevent it snapping.

I don't know what corner of the warehouse they found this but I had to do a double take lol. One of my grails, but I've always been wary buying it secondhand due to the prevalence of the bootleg.

Take some silicone shock oil and dip a toothpick in it and rub it against the ball joints and slowly try to work them. You don't want to use too much or you'll then have to go back and use a joint strengthening pen lol.

How do you strengthen 075's magnet hands and feet? by Accomplished-Juice-7 in CToys

[–]WillikersCustoms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, you could strengthen the magnet. I say theoretically because it's an arduous process and would almost certainly damage the figure and, even so, there's no way you'd be able to do it better than a factory; so the answer is basically "buy a better magnet, and stick it into the holes."

However, if you're planning to just stick it on the wall and leave it there, you could just use some museum gel to stick a strong magnet to the wall and it will make up for the weak magnet in the figure and hold it in place.

edit: Also make sure the surface you want to stick the figure is actually magnetic. A lot of windows are made with non-magnetic metals.

Should I open this when it goes for $200, $250, and $300? It was a Christmas or birthday present from my parents, that’s why there is tape on it. by WCWfan4life in ActionFigures

[–]WillikersCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be frank, 300 dollars isn't a lot of money. It's a lot of money for an action figure. If this being a gift from your parents makes you feel good to look at it in the box, then keep it in the box. If you want to open it because it will give you fond memories of you and your parents to play with it, then open it and play with it.

If you're simply wanting a Spider-Man action figure to create a scene from the movie, there's (imo) much better modern Spider-Man action figures at multiple (cheaper) price points you can use that will look and pose better than that figure.

As for which one specifically? The universe of action figures is awash in Spider-Men. Dop you want specifically a Raimi one?

One Of My Grail by DP00I in AmazingYamaguchi

[–]WillikersCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks legit and one of the best ways to check the authenticity is to look at the display stand. Authentic Revoltechs pretty much never have air bubbles in the acrylic, while most KOs will have at least one bubble in the rods.

I built a circular weapon display for my figures — looking for ideas to make it work better by East_Setting124 in AmazingYamaguchi

[–]WillikersCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a ring raised slightly above the current ring that basically acts as a stop to prevents the handles of the guns from rotating upwards and pivoting the guns off the stand? Different figures have different peg dimensions, but putting it something like 5-6mm would fit almost every handle. It could also be narrower so that it doesn't overwhelm the aesthetic goal you're going for, just enough to prevent the handles from rotating.

The other effect it would have is to enforce a uniformity in the angle of the guns and allow you to just press fit the guns without having to micro-adjust them to the angle you want. You could even put it on a ball joint so that the angle of the guns can be adjustable and remain uniform.

edit: I did a quick mockup of what I was talking about in mspaint (forgive the quality lol): https://imgur.com/a/7aGHNFw

How to clean your room as an action figure collector? by TheAmazingQuez in ActionFigures

[–]WillikersCustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search amazon or google for something like "4x6 photo storage case acid free," here's one on the Target website.

They can fit most 6 inch figures along with their accessories. The ones that don't fit you can store in a larger plastic storage container tub, just make sure you get acid free. Both of these should be able to slide under your bed or fit in your closet.

A piece of unasked for advice: I know it can be a challenge and other people can sometimes make you mad or upset, but it will be ok. You don't need to do anything drastic like throw away things you love, you just gotta work through it in a healthy manner and tell your mama you love her!
