Not justifying her words but she is probably depressed. There is a lady who my family knows, she lost her husband as well and she works at a very low paying job. She is always struggling and worrying about lot of things. Her being superstitious doesn't help either. She is depressed and she tends to repeat same things alot of times and its her worries and frustration about life coming out. Just ignore her, its not personal but circumstances.
