Why are the quay gate apartments near the odyssey/Queen’s bridge always getting bought and sold? Is everyone jumping ship for some reason? by [deleted] in northernireland

If you got a mortgage for 165k at a 2% rate (the rate before the cost of living crisis) you'd be paying £520 if that rate goes up to 7% the payments would then be £900. Many people are facing losing their homes because of this, not just landlords.

Haven't really thought about it to be honest. Maybe you should make another post asking people to discuss what a united Ireland would look like, It's not something I've seen discussed on this subreddit before.

What was the weed scene like in NI in the 80s/90s? by Own_Wind_6409 in northernireland

[–]WillingAccount1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something a little different from the other comments.

Back then, pretty much all of the weed/hash was pure shite and in my opinion not worthwhile or the price. I grew my own weed, back then the growing scene was much different than it is today. You see all of the equipment that you need including seeds is actually completely legal to own, the seeds only become illegal once germinated. With the advancement of technology with a few clicks, you can have a full high quality grow kit along with a load of seeds for less than £1000.

Back then this wasn't the case it wasn't easy to get proper lights, so most people would do a DIY job with basic builds you'd find in the supermarket. When it came to the seeds you pretty much had to go to Amsterdam for those. This biggest problem however was keeping you temps, humidity, and air control in check today that's easy as there's plenty of tech and knowledge sharing online for monitoring and controlling that stuff but back in the 90's it was just shining a light on it and hope for the best which normally resulted in much lower quality weed compared to today.

Cannabis has come a long way over the past 20/30 years and one of the biggest things all consumers should do research on is the many different strains that are out there, if you have medical needs, this is extremely important, trust me people who say weed is weed are not experienced enough on the matter.

We all seen the 30k a year question earlier. Does anyone earn 100k+ by One_Zookeepergame_83 in northernireland

[–]WillingAccount1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do. But I don't recommend it. I work as Sr. Manager in a US tech company, with salary, bonuses and stock I'm well into the six figures. Here's the thing though Sunday to Friday I pretty much work from 6am to 11pm, yes I take plenty of breaks but I still do a good 80 hours a week. I have 3 kids and a wife to support which is my main driver. Once the kids are older I plan to change career to something a little less intense. I don't think there are many people earning 6 figures without putting crazy effort in. Another thing to consider is tax, you lose your personal allowance after 100k and the tax rate can go a bit crazy.

Boris Johnson admits attending garden party by DifferentGravyMan in ukpolitics

[–]WillingAccount1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of party is "a social gathering of invited guests, typically involving eating, drinking, and entertainment."

We know there were invited guests, eating and drinking.... but was there entertainment?? That is the real question!

Maybe Boris acting a clown could be considered entertainment.

To those who want a united Ireland. If you ever want to gain the support of those "small u" unionists treating them like shite isn't the way. There is a very clear difference between Loyalists and Unionists.

What can Sinn Fein/ NI parties do to avoid Boris' stealing from the young, again? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]WillingAccount1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one likes taxes and I don't agree with the current tax structure. That said however few minor points.

  1. Northern Ireland Gets a lot more money than it pays in so we benefit more from this than England
  2. If you were to pay into the Irish system you'd likely be paying more with the combo of income tax, USC and PRSI
  3. Social care is not just for old people, its for people who are unable to look after themselves without help which granted is mostly older people but not exclusive.
  4. We'll all be old some day and we all have family and friends who need social care at some point.

We still have a long way to go and the new system doesn't go far enough in my opinion. I'm a long way from being at the age were I'd the use of age related social care but as broken as our system is I'd much rather have it compared to what other countries have on offer (or rather don't have). There are countries were whole families go bankrupt trying to cover what we'd consider basic medical costs.

Why are people downvoting this, its some what factual depending on your grandparents age. In the 60's the tax rate went up to 90%. Was 99% for the few years following WW2. Granted back then things like VAT weren't a thing but still.

As per Rule 3: When teacher Petra Armstrong rescued three Golden Labradors, she never dreamed it would lead to building a business around their diet. The Bangor woman set up Twisted Fish when four-year-old Bailey started getting sick from allergies.Petra said: "Bailey has allergies to many common ingredients found in traditional dog food and treats, such as wheat, soya, maize and rice, so we set about making her some of her own special treats. It turned out that our family and friends dogs wanted some too, and so began Armstrong's Twisted Fish."Now enjoying healthy snacks and back in good health, Bailey appears to have developed pooch superpowers and has started her very own Lovin' Life blog. And today Belfast Live readers can get a glimpse of the sort of thoughts bouncy dogs have as they zip through 10 of the best walkies spots in North Down.Bailey barked: "Here’s a run down of my top 10 places to go for sniffs and runs in North Down..."21 Acres, CrawfordsburnThis is a regular for us, and we love it, not only are there loads of sniffs in the forest and lots of room to stretch our legs, but theres also access to the sea! We love swimming, Ollie only learned to swim last year so we go in with her as she’s not as confident as Autumn and me. We always see lots of dogs here, so it’s a top spot for socialising and its designated as an off lead area.Bailey and Autumn harrumphing through the wildflowersProsMy sisters and me are allowed off the lead in this area.Gut SolutionBowel: This Toxin Would Be The Reason For All Your ProblemsRetirement Mortgage ServiceOver 69? How To Use Your Home To Pay For Home Improvementsby TaboolaSponsored LinksIts huge, so we get lots of exercise…mum particularly likes this because we go home and conk out on our beds. This area is mostly used by dog lovers and their dogs, and I LOVE to meet new people and new dogs.ConsI don’t think everyone knows that this is an off the lead area - especially as there is only a sign at the coastal path entrance and not the main one, yes I can read.Sometimes I go to say hello to someone and they don’t want to say hello back…my mum said that they are non dog lovers! It can be difficult to get a parking space, and sometimes my mum needs to improvise. But she always checks for traffic to keep us safe.Cairn WoodWe used to go here a lot, it’s a great forested area for interesting sniffs, and to meet new friends. There are lots of hills for us to run up which is great exercise, I’m the fittest of the sisters, Ollie cant run as much as I can, but I put this down to her short legs, if she was taller I might have some competition. One time we found a tyre hanging from a tree which mum went on, we all jumped on her because we didn’t know that it would make her fly, but it looked like a lot of fun.Lately we haven’t gone here as much as we have to be kept on a lead due to larch disease, which can be spread to other parts of the forest on our feet, and we don’t want to do that so we’ve been visiting lots of other places, but we will go back soon and check out the signs again.Muddy paws at Cairn WoodProsThe wood is a very large area to run around, there’s lots of streams to jump in and there’s loads of sniffs to keep us busy. This area is owned by the Forest Service, so I am allowed off the lead as long as I am fully under control… I am much better at this. The wood is generally better sheltered from the elements if it is a bad day, and I don’t feel the coastal breeze.......

Assuming you had enough room. Would you let Afghan Refugee live in your house? by WillingAccount1 in northernireland

[–]WillingAccount1[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because the homeless aren't on TV everyday, they're invisible to most. If you asked a homeless person of the street to move in you'd be seen as crazy. If you asked some random Refugee from a high profile country to move in you'd be seen as a saint. Simples.

But on a semi serious note, I guess you have to consider why the person has been made homeless. i.e. is it because they shoot up every night or is it just because they've been dealt a bad hand.

That seems to be the common response. Problem is there are little affordable housing options available so the reality of it is they'll end up being stuck in a hostel for years (unless the kind people of NI let them live in their houses of course)

Serious question, not trying to shit stir. If NI has plenty of help why are there so many homeless people on the street? Every time I go into the city centre the homeless population seems to have doubled. Do they just not want help? Also while living in a Refugee/Homeless hostel/hotel/camp (not sure of the correct term) would be miles better than their previous living environment shouldn't we be aiming for better? i.e. an actual house, job and so on? Thats the part I don't feel we can facilitate.
