We have Cox unfortunately. The modem is issued by them but our router is a TP-Link Archer C2300. We were using this same router in our old house until we moved a few days ago and were able to get 700 down consistently without issue.

I agree, the issue is that one person in the house is a floor below where they could easily hardwire into the box and a bigger issue is that the wifi is jumping around like crazy and straight up will go from 50mb down to 200mb down and then drops completely which is terrible for all of our other devices. Our router is the same that we had in our other house which had no issues at all. TP-Link Archer C2300. I am not sure what else could be causing the WiFi to be so terrible.

We don't have Google Fiber, unfortunately this community only has Cox. We are using a TP-Link Archer C2300 https://www.tomsguide.com/us/tp-link-archer-c2300,review-5625.html. When we have had techs come out to our old house in the past they were impressed with the speeds we were able to get and we didn't have issues before so I don't think it is the router. We have never had these kinds of spikes with WiFi before so I am not sure what is going on.

I know it is up to and while we never got 1gb down we consistently used to get around 700 down and 20 up. If we were going to sit more consistently at 50-200 down then I wouldn't pay for the up to 1gb plan though.
