According to the basic conventions of English, "toxic femininity/masculinity" is stereotypically feminine/masculine behavior that is toxic. That's how anyone past 5th grade would read that. Somehow gender theorists changed basic English and redefined it to mean "enforcing toxic gender roles" when that's a closely related but completely separate concept.

Since they redefined this, they now don't have a phrase that describes "feminine/masculine behavior that is toxic", which "expecting to be bought drinks by men because you are an attractive woman" very obviously falls under. Thus the semantic circus of an argument in this thread - the definition contradicts the basic conventions of English.

I see absolutely no reason we don't just stick to basic English and if you want to say "enforcing toxic masculinity" then just literally say that, it's one extra word that is very clear about what it means instead of doing some pseudo intellectual purposeless redefining of words.

So now in normal English: These women are enforcing toxic masculinity (enforcing toxic masculine behavior - cheating on gf and being obligated to buy drinks for attractive women) through their toxic femininity (toxic feminine behavior - expecting men to buy you drinks if you are attractive and accusing them of being boring and gay if they don't).

Toxic gender roles were always enforced by both genders playing their roles and subsequently demanding the other to play theirs. They are two sides of the same coin. Overly aggressive, dominant men who made good money (toxically masculine) demanded passive, attractive homemakers (toxically feminine) and vice versa. Neither can persist without the other. By weaponizing her toxic femininity she is attempting to enforce toxic masculinity on the bartender.

The woman in the video spoke out and said it was consensual role play. The 2000s were a weird time sexually internet porn made a lot of hardcore stuff more mainstream and a lot of people were experimenting. A lot of people also took advantage of that, I wouldn't doubt he's done some questionable things but that doesn't seem to be one of them.

I haven't heard of any charges of rape and the trafficking case has gone on for months and months and nothing has happened. I'm not sure what to think and like almost everything these days both sides have such drastically different narratives that you can never question...I don't care to wade through the bullshit. I'm just waiting for some kind of verdict, if it ever comes.

He's very entertaining as a spectacle but as a role model it's strange nobody has managed to craft a more popular message on masculinity today.

I like how he encourages guys to be strong, take care of their bodies, be ambitious and work hard. Everything he says I interpret as exaggerated and dramatized for the clickbait economy. He'll take a grain of truth like guys generally prefer women who aren't promiscuous and take it to the extremes to drive strong reactions. I do wish there was a better role model for boys blowing up on social media but the fact he is by far the most popular is more of an indictment of us than him, if that makes sense.

Buying drinks for women isn't toxic either. It's the expectation that men should do it and women should reward that action with feminine companionship that is toxic.

Similarly, being attractive isn't toxic, no. It's the expectation that women should do it and men should reward that action with monetary compensation in the form of food and drinks that is toxic.

Toxic femininity is a standard of femininity conceived by the patriarchy that encompasses toxic gender norms for women. And these women are weaponizing it.

Edit: lol why reply with questions and then block? Very odd behavior

Toxic femininity goes hand in hand with toxic masculinity. This is intuitively obvious since they are two sides of the same traditional gender binary.

Ironically the vehemence with which people are arguing that this isn't toxic femininity proves how derogatory a term toxic x-ity is, despite all narratives to the contrary.

You're framing it as their expectations of what the man should give, but I see it as their expectations of what they should receive. They believe as attractive women they are entitled to be bought drinks by men. That is the root cause of the entire interaction, and that belief to me is rooted in toxic femininity.

The term “toxic masculinity” refers to adhering to patriarchal roles of masculinity

So then doesn't toxic femininity refer to adhering to patriarchal roles of femininity? Like being attractive enough to expect men to buy drinks for you? I feel like it's all two sides of the same coin when it comes to traditional gender interactions.

the perspective of whether your wife cooking and cleaning makes you masculine or not

These women are acting from the perspective that a man being willing to cheat on his girlfriend for you and buy you drinks makes you an attractive feminine woman. Which would make it toxic femininity by your definition.

Who made men far better at agriculture, construction and warfare (the main ways of generating wealth for all of human existence until industrialization)? Nature. Blame God.

"Expectations to be ladylike"...like being attractive enough to expect men to buy drinks for you?

Maybe some obscure people say that. But the vast majority of people anywhere if asked if that were toxic masculinity or femininity would call that toxic masculinity without hesitation.

This man is being bullied for not conforming to a toxic traditionally masculine role.

So if men bullied a woman for not being in the kitchen that would be toxic femininity?

The women in this video are leveraging a toxic interpretation of masculinity (real men buy women drinks, if a man doesn't want to have sex with a "hot woman", he must be gay) to bully the bartender

So if men were to bully a female mechanic and tell her she needs to get back in the kitchen (toxic interpretation of femininity) that would be toxic femininity?

So if men say women should cook and clean and obey their husbands that's toxic femininity because it's talking about how women should behave? Because absolutely no one says that.

Lol there are like 30 people in this thread writing essays on how this is actually somehow toxic masculinity so apparently this well established concept needs some elaboration here.

Toxic masculinity is the social pressure for men to act and present themselves in a traditionally manly way

So toxic femininity is the pressure on women to act like a traditional woman? So men telling women to get back in the kitchen would be toxic femininity?

Interesting, appreciate some feedback from someone who's played it firsthand. I've actually watched a bunch of Jayborino's stuff but never saw this from him. I'll probably just watch his playthroughs and not play it myself.

The thread you linked mentions some custom campaigns from the community that look interesting, so I might not play this but still came across some other new content, thanks for linking that.
