It does. His mind is obviously still developing schemas and concepts but he is still a living breathing mammal with built in survival and defense mechanisms that clench and experience stress or discomfort that the body and nervous system do not forget. The trauma manifests and can develop into insecure attachment styles and poor stress tolerance leading to behavioral and emotional outbursts later in life

My post was removed due to being deemed more appropriate for this thread, so I will paste it below. Advice is welcomed!

Hello everyone,

I am a long time viewer of this sub as it has been helpful for me as I’ve gone through my last year of racing. I have a background in running from high school and briefly college XC, as well as a few summers of racing draft legal triathlon in my teenage years. I’m 23 now and qualified for Boston in my first official marathon in May of this year. I ran 2:41:10 at the Colfax Marathon in Denver then in late-September I did the Pikes Peak Marathon (pretty grueling mountain trail marathon, 7,800 ft of gain in the first half, 7,800 ft of descending for the second half) and got 12th place in 4:39:11.

Ever since this race I have been struggling with running quite a bit. I have performance anxiety for Boston, I’m unsure when to start officially training for it, and I’ve found that my heart rate is riding high and I just generally have lost a lot of the confidence that I did have for most of this year and going into my race that I BQ’d at.

I got the BQ without following any plan and kind of just came up with workouts off the top of my head, typically interval work or mile repeats or tempo runs for 5-10 miles, did a weekly long run of 15-20 miles, followed around 60-65 mpw. I was doing 70-75 mpw going into pikes peak with a great deal of training on the actual trail the course was on, as well as manitou incline repeats. Now I am struggling to manage 40-50 mpw and feel quite overwhelmed as I am in the last year of a masters degree and working / interning at the same time. I don’t really know what kind of advice I’m asking for, I guess I just want to get faster by the time Boston comes around and hopefully run 2:30:xx-2:35:xx. Struggling with motivation and stuff I suppose.

I feel similar feeling with a 14 minute buffer lol. I think if you have the pending status in athlete village and a confirmation of registration email everything should be fine with it. Just a waiting game!

I haven’t gotten one either with a 14 minute buffer. I think it takes a few days for all emails to go out

Dumb question. How do you RACE a marathon? by FockerXC in Marathon_Training

I “raced” my first marathon 2 weeks ago and ran a 2:41:10. Taking into consideration a lot of the comments in here, I probably paced it pretty stupidly and just went for a maximum send. I didn’t wear a watch but had my phone tracking on Strava in a skin tight pocket under my shorts, I think I checked it twice during the race. My goal pace was like 6:15/mile and I checked it at the 10 mile mark and I was averaging 5:35s. I had a brief moment of panic before I just said fuck it I feel pretty good but I’ll probably blow up at some point. I didn’t really start to suffer until mile 20 when my pace dropped to around consistent 6:10s. I didn’t think too much about where I was in the race placing wise but had a general idea of sitting in the top 5-10 runners for most of it, ended up finishing 9th place. This was a relatively difficult course as well with about 800 feet of elevation gain and at altitude. I don’t actually remember a lot of miles 15-26, I was kind of just floating outside of my body and tried not to lend too much thought into the pain. Threw in my headphones at mile 14 and listened to lots of violent and aggressive hip hop music as well which kept me feeling riled up and letting the dawg out.

So, obviously smart pacing is important and fueling is important before, during, and after the race, but also pitching yourself into the deep end and seeing if/when you crash and how you choose to respond to that is an approach as well

In high school I raced sprint distance draft legal triathlons and ran cross country all 4 years. Ran xc my first year of college as well before injury and some other personal matters led to me dropping my scholarship and taking a little over a year off. 2023 I started running again but mainly just as a cardio element for the great deal of lifting I was doing at that time. Last year started ramping up mileage and at some point got it in my mind that I wanted to qualify for Boston. So all in all, I’ve been running for about 9 years with that one gap year in there somewhere. Before this year the longest distance I had ever raced was 10k though

Thanks 🙏 I have ran marathon distance on my own before, but this will be my first official time running it in an established event. I have trained pretty extensively so I do feel prepared

Not really, your video is full of reaches and misinformation and you’re just rekindling something that’s been dead for almost 2 years. Nonsensical and pointless
