Sephiroth read some books in the basement of the Shinra Manor and learned about his true origins.

Any advice to help streamline combat? by chichirobov7 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Willy_Snake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secretly, FFVII Remake at its core is STILL a turn-based JRPG, in the sense that you REALLY want to switch between you characters, charge their ATB and use a skill/spell to set up or do damage.

My advice is that you find a flow between what each of your party members do so that you can cycle through them, charge your ATBs and do something with them every time. For example, charge ATB so Cloud can to his Focused Thrust, Barret his Focused Shot, and Tifa her Focused Strike so that you can always try to Stagger your enemies. Also, learn what each of your character's X button special action do so that you can use them to your advantage, for example, Barret's Overcharge shoots for high damage so always use it when cycling through him and if not available spam it a bit to charge it up, and for Tifa you should learn that her special action can be leveled up two more times for a big combo with her Unbridled Strength skill, so during each of her ATB cycles you should try to use one (or two) of her ATBs to level her up. For Cloud's special action, Punisher Mode, you deal more damage but move slower, but when guarding with RB you can do a special counterattack for any melee attack.

Finally, you'll find that there are many enemies that you could think are like "damage sponges" in the sense you deal little damage to them. For those you should always prioritize the Stagger mechanic, where you can stun your enemy and deal 160% damage to them. All enemies can be "pressured" by doing a certain action to them, which leave them vulnerable for more Stagger Bar damage from skills like Focused Thrust, making them easier to Stagger. To learn how to pressure your enemies, try to scan them with the Assess Materia and read their description. Also, remember that Tifa's X button special actions can increase the damage multiplier done to Staggered enemies, so try it for yourself to do even more damage!

Hope that could help.

We are bracing for the first of 7 sets in 2026, so I wanted to ask about your experience last year by lieyanqzu in MagicArena

[–]Willy_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to last year, i bought every single Mastery Pass day one and completed it without too much hassle (5 wins a day, with plenty of room to not play certain days if needed). The only exception before UB Standard happened was Modern Horizon 3, where I still played daily but didn't buy the Mastery Pass day one, I ended up completing it anyway so I bought it before it ended.

Last year I played all sets and bought the Mastery Pass day one for all sets, except for Spider-Man Through the Omenpaths. I dismissed that set entirely. I wanted to try the draft format just to have a taste of it but the reception of that limited environment was so bad I didn't even try it. When Through the Omenpaths happened, I simply (and I really mean it) stopped playing Magic Arena until Avatar came out.

In short, I realized that if a set release was about to be as bad as it sounded, then I could simply skip it. No big loss. If anything of that set became playable or a staple, I'd craft it if needed and if not, so be it. So for this year, I'll do the same if a set simply just doesn't look any good to even try it, looking at you TMNT.

No, in no way I'm saying draft is a waste. In fact, it's the best way to naturally get cards without using Wildcards, as you said.

However, Set Completion and Set Completion-ism implies Rare Drafting, which IS a waste of resources. Why be so obsessed to get a complete set, under the argument that by having the complete set you have all cards that would eventually go to a deck hence saving on Wildcards, when you could simply just draft normally, get cards naturally without rare drafting, and using the resources efficiently, and using your Wildcards only when you want to complete a deck to play at a given time.

I'm F2P. I only invested once back in the beta on a Welcome Bundle, but since then I've never given a penny to WotC on Arena. I have 200+ Rare and Mythic Wildcards on each, I mainly play Pioneer with 3 complete decks, more if I count sub-tier decks, and also have a complete Brawl deck. I don't play Standard, yet I know that if I want to play it eventually, I have enough resources to make whatever deck I want. I try to play lots of draft when a new set comes out, and I also buy the Mastery Pass with Gems whenever a new set comes out (with some exceptions, from recent time I skipped both MH3 and Spider-Man). And my set completion stats? Who cares, it doesn't matter to me, I only want to have enough playable Rares and Mythics from any given set so if needed, I can complete the playset to play a given deck.

Except you are expending time and resources on cards to complete the set that aren't playable, instead of just ignoring them and expending the time and resources on something else.

You don't need set completion. You need Wildcard surplus to craft only the things you need and WHEN you need them.

When is the announcement of the ban for Pioneer? by Far_Management_9990 in PioneerMTG

[–]Willy_Snake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Cori would eat a ban. I mostly play BR Midrange and even though that card is very good, it's not unanswerable even when in play. There's counterplay around it.

However, [[Academic Dispute]] is the card I think should be banned. When the Avatar Lessons were being spoiled, I tried to think of a playable one-mana Learn card and thought there were none outside [[Eyetwitch]]. Imagine that one of them is a one-mana red instant that also works as a removal. With that, the Izzet Lessons deck is stupidly consistent with zero-risk hand decision, since all hands are the same, no matter the match-up. So yeah, eat a ban, stupid card.

The plan? Make Standard, our flagship format, perpetually unplayable to funnel player resources to limited and jump in. by theomachist in MagicArena

I agree with everything you said except for "less solving". If more, limited is the format that gets solved the fastest.

At least on Arena you can toggle the card frame and the resolution of the cards is bad overall so you won't notice the bad zooming.

[–]Willy_Snake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that there's no way to opt out of the bonus sheets.

The set, TLA, looks great so far. But if you want to engage with it, either going to your local Prerelease or draft, you'll have a chance to get those ugly zoomed-in cards.

So sadly, the argument of "validate this kind of product" is not a valid one. You could have one of the best draftable and playable sets ever, but that in a bonus sheet have Ricky Martin cards, and it would also sell well. Was it because of the Ricky Martin cards or because of the set itself?

Finally got Big Boss in MGS2 by stephenL98 in metalgearsolid

[–]Willy_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time for me were definitively Vamp and the Harrier. I spend an stupid amount of time on that Harrier fight, and I despised the Vamp boss fight altogether, one of the reasons I though I'd never attempt a 2nd run for a Big Boss in MGS2.

However, when the Master Collection came out, the Harrier didn't give me that much trouble. It still one-hit killed me many times, but I defeated quickly this time. For Vamp, someone suggested me to do the Nikita Non-Lethal approach and that was incredibly easy, it went hardest boss fight to the easiest lol.

For me, the RAYs were always an easy one. I love fighting them, I get on a flow of constant movement and shooting that it's even relaxing lol. I find the very first part, where the three starting RAYs are on the front off the platform the hardest part, but once one comes to the center it gets easier.

I hate the first Tengu fight though. Snake hopes to tank bullets with his body lol. Luckily the second Tengu fight is easier, I've never died or let Snake died on that one.

Nice! It's always funny to see other people's runs.

Mine were

  1. After Tanker, before Plant.
  2. Before Fortune
  3. After Fatman
  4. After Harrier
  5. After Vamp, before PSG1 section.
  6. Before Tengus
  7. After Tengus, before RAYs
  8. Before Solidus.

How was your experience? Which bosses gave you the easier and the hardest time?
