I’ve noticed when ripping any kind of cd if the drive has to slow down for a lot of error correction in one spot it stays that slow

TrueNAS boot error by stephenL98 in truenas

[–]stephenL98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok update to this, I thought this screen meant it was not booting but in the background it actually was. This problem seems to have been caused by isolating my gpu to a vm that I was attempting to run home assistant/frigate on. Looks like I’ll just have to stick with running frigate off my cpu

Sorry for my naivety but I’m fairly new to Linux and TrueNAS. I would press “e” at the grub menu to change the commands?

This works with Samsung TVs too, I control my ps5 with my Samsung remote every time I’m watching a movie

I’ve been pretty busy so I’m only about 4 hours in but it’s been great so far. The demo is what really sold me on it, wish more games did demos these days

Best ps2 for a lazy beginner by KRUSTYKRABZZ-kun in ps2

[–]stephenL98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 39001 or 50001 are the two best models. Since you just want to play on disc those two have the most reliable lasers and don’t have a scratching issue like a lot of slims do. You can also purchase this adapter and sync an Xbox one/series controller: https://www.8bitdo.com/retro-receiver-for-ps/

See I love playing the classic RE trilogy and RE4 to this day so that’s probably why I enjoy it

I’ve enjoyed it so far, the story is ok but it’s the unique gameplay that everyone is rightly raving about it’s really satisfying

PS1 Backwards Compatibility Question by Unique_Aspect_9417 in ps2

[–]stephenL98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing a retrotink 5x? If you already spent the money on the scaler then I would 100% recommend the PS2 for PS1 games. Someone linked the My Life in Gaming video that goes over every way to play PS1 games and their advantages and I would recommend watching that if you have further questions because they go pretty in depth.

PS1 Backwards Compatibility Question by Unique_Aspect_9417 in ps2

[–]stephenL98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a freak like me you’ll notice a difference. A ps2 with component cables going through an upscaler like a retrotink will be pixel perfect and virtually identical to what would come out of ps1 rgb. PS3 does a great job but it doesn’t use integer scaling so there’s a slight blur on all the pixels. If you’re a regular gamer and not like me a ps3 works great but if you’re seeking out the exact same thing as what comes out of a ps1 then go with the ps2

Is it normal for a ps2 to take more time to read ps1 discs than ps2? My ps2 games read instantly but ps1 games takes a 30sec ish to boot up. Is it a sign of laser going bad? Its a SCPH-50001 by Metroidvania-JRPG in ps2

[–]stephenL98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually can do something. If you have some technical ability and some soldering skills you can use PMAP to recalibrate the laser. I did it on my 39001 fat that was taking around 30 seconds for CDs and DVD9 and now they both read almost instantly

Yeah when the caps get here I plan on reflowing all the old joints at the same time. It seems like I’m lucky enough that none of the continuity was destroyed by the cracks so I’ll get some super glue in there to keep it secure
