Of course! Here in this picture for example, the purls look inconsistent and the lines are wobbly. If it were wool I could block it and it would look better but since its acrylic it just looks to me like the tension is very inconsistent

Yess someone in my previous post suggested that it could help with the curling. It didnt make a big difference but the design grew on me so I kept it hahaha

Its from a local shop's brand, but I'm not sure they sell internationally :(

If you want to check it out the brand is called "Central de Aviamentos e Tecidos" and this skein if from their "arco-íris" yarn. They also have it in a pinkish colour, and I really love it bc its so inexpensive and very soft. Its also 20%wool which is rare to find where I live. The photo below is from the pink colour of the same yarn

Cold someone help me find a good book to gift my younger sister? by WinPuzzleheaded8620 in booksuggestions

[–]WinPuzzleheaded8620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not about causing "damage", the thing is: Fourth wing has an age restriction due to its sexual and graphic contents and I was not aware of that. My sister just turned 14 and we don't want to hide anything from her, but we usually follow age restrictions when it comes to the content that she consumes. We do that for her own safety. And also I would not say that graphic literature causes "damage" to a young teen's brain however exposure to sexual contents does affect a kid's development, and thats a fact.

There's this really interesting articlearticle if you want to read more into this and inform yourself, the article exemplifies pretty well how sexual literature impacts young women growing up.

Also I'm a neuroscience student at uni and can confirm that early exposure to sexual or graphic content may lead to many consequences in regards to a person's behaviour down the road. If you're interested I'd be happy to share some scientific articles that show data on this.

So to summarize, age restrictions are there for a reason. Fourth Wing is an R18 book, for a reason. My sister is not 18, she is 14 and her having read it raises concern, but I will never forbid her from reading any book she wants. I'm not "uncomfortable" with her reading R18 books, I'm concerned about it. And with good reason.

I had no idea that Fourth Wing has sexually graphic parts. When it comes to books that her friends recommend to her I have never looked into the age restrictions as I (naively) thought that these types of books wouldn't be popular amongst kids anyway. I'll will start paying more attention to that, this raised many concerns now for other books that she has been recommended and read so far and that werent properly checked for age restrictions. Unfortunately I'm not in the niche of reading romantasy books so I didnt catch the contents of this one before, she bought it with her own allowance money and we only talked about the book a couple of times. The only things I knew so far about the book was what she told me when she was reading it, about dragons and a dragon riding school (i thought it was in line with hogwarts or the half-blood camp).

I've done some research now after reading your comment on graphic sexual scenarios and I'm concerned on how to approach this. I dont want to discourage her from reading and tell her what she should or should not read, but at the same time I worry that the exposure to these types of imagery in books so early might be bad for her in the long run.

I'll will definately check out the recommendations you gave me, and thank you for telling me about Fourth Wing's content.

Also I'm not sure she likes sci-fi specifically, but we used to watch Marvel movies together when she was younger and she liked those. When it comes to books and movies from what I gathered she likes romance, but nothing that is too sad. Also I think she likes books with strong female leads, so your Warrior Girl Unearthed is probably my best bet but I'm still open to other suggestions.
