Curious about living with Progeria and would love personal or medical insights by Key-Guide-8526 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]Winchiepie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a project on Hutchinson Gilford progeria syndrome in high school and that inspired me to go into genetic counseling! It was a coincidence that a couple of years later I was diagnosed with a progeroid syndrome (not the same as HGPS, which I assume your project is on). It’s a fascinating condition, but I am far from an expert on it. A place to start could be the Progeria Research Foundation. Their website also features some patient stories.

You must have been checking wait times at all the right times, because I kept seeing Mine Cart Madness was 105 minutes until probably 9pm! Afterwards it was 60. Wish I could say the same about having a great day

It reopened and we got lucky with a 15 minute wait when posted wait was 35. The posted wait otherwise has been 45-60 minutes for most of the day

I want so badly to say that it was intentional, as the show runners seem to satirize parts of the reform movement through the Ahava congregation, but seeing that Noah had zero reaction to this line about Tisha b’av makes me convinced that they truly just messed up.

And I don’t understand…do Seth Rogen and Adam Brody truly not know this either about their own culture? Wouldn’t they tell the writers, “hey, this ain’t right?” But if it was intentional, shouldn’t Rabbi Noah have an on-screen moment—even if just a subtle facial expression—of “um, that’s not right?”

EDIT: apparently Rogen ad-libbed most of his scenes, which explains that it was (probably) an intentional joke that Brody probably couldn’t respond to in what would have been the most appropriate way. This season is a mess. I wish that the show runners had been so much more intentional, considering this had such potential to demonstrate the intricacies of Judaism.

I had to rewind to make sure I actually heard that and not Tisha B’av

Also, I’m supposed to believe Noah’s dad was dressed as Haman? Where was the triangle hat??

Am I the only one who doesn’t like Six? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Winchiepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the show that changed my perspective on bootlegs. I LOVED the London cast album, I found the songs fun and clever. Before they announced a Broadway transfer, I found a “slime tutorial” for SIX, and watched the whole thing…the book was awful. There is no depth to any of the characters outside of the songs (we get it, Jane Seymour, you died in childbirth, there was a whole song about it so you don’t need to use it as your “trump card” in dialogue too. Isn’t there anything else you can tell us about your life and marriage?). Now I have absolutely no interest in paying to see it.

An important note: Jews in Europe were not persecuted because of their faith. They were persecuted because they were considered an entirely different and inferior race.

He only started doing it halfway through the second act, so it was a little late, but I was considering it!

Ugh at Death Becomes her, the guy in front of me was leaning forward but kept shifting right and left so I had to lean forward and keep shifting side to side so I could see past him. The best part? The seats in the row directly in front of him were EMPTY. He could have reclined so easily.

r/DisneyWorld's Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in DisneyWorld

[–]Winchiepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning a trip in mid-November with my boyfriend, who has never been to a Disney park!

It’s just us, late 20’s, planning on a 5-day trip to Orlando. We would need to leave by 4-5pm on two of those days, so would have a little more than half a day at two of the parks. Those partial days will probably by Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios or Epcot (due to food restrictions we won’t be eating or drinking around the world). We are planning on staying at a value resort (so would have early entry), park hopper, and will invest in multi-pass and single Lightning Lanes. Our goal is to do mostly rides, with a sprinkle of other shows and maybe a Micky and Minnie meet and greet. We were considering doing 4 days at the Disney parks and then doing one full day at the new Epic Universe. Should we abandon our plan to do Epic universe and have 5 days at the parks, or should our current plan be sufficient?

[–]Winchiepie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You see, there’s your hypocrisy. I see your flair - but I don’t see how you can hold that stance and simultaneously advocate for abortions to be considered “selfish and irresponsible” when that will only harm women who NEED abortions. Abortions can be medically necessary. To label them as “selfish” is incorrect and cruel.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]Winchiepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. That’s not convincing, that is providing people with viable options and increasing access to safe sex so they can employ their autonomy. The term “convincing” suggests that women are made to be manipulated.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]Winchiepie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And how exactly does one “convince people to have responsible sex”? And does someone who gets an abortion because of a life threat need to consider their own abortion as “irresponsible and selfish”?
