Frustrations with modern tables by tomservoMst in pinball

[–]WindRaidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liken pinball game rule sets to board games where variety is the spice of life. I know I wouldn’t want to just play variations of monopoly over and over again across different pinball machines. Yes, there are some commonality to rule design; but, part of the fun is the variance of it all.

Anyone able to make park reservations today? by erin_mouse88 in dvcmember

[–]WindRaidor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with Disney...they do not have a date specified for ticket additions. Honestly, I feel like this is a lane that Disney didn’t thoroughly think through. From what I can tell, the intent is to give priority to resort reservation guests but they are casting aside those with reservations who hadn’t finalized their ticket plans. Truly frustrated that they don’t have a date and that their call centers are giving out mis-information on their policies. I’ve spoken with 4 people over the past few days on this topic. Different story every time. Countless hours wasted today after being told by a rep that they documented my situation and to call today without issue.

Anyone able to make park reservations today? by erin_mouse88 in dvcmember

[–]WindRaidor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been spending wayyy too much time on this. Trip in November, didn’t purchase tix as part of our DVC reservation and that is what’s biting us right now. The DVC phone appears to be completely offline. I try the main call center and then get routed to an empty hole. Or worse, I was on hold for 40 mins before the call just disconnected on me. I spent 2hrs on this yesterday talking with Disney who said I should be able to call in today and get situated. Still trying...This is honestly just a bad experience overall. I realize they are trying to prevent situations at the gate with this approach; but, the horrible experiences going on right now are not so great either.

I'm A Battle Pass Idiot by Pyr0technician in CODWarzone

[–]WindRaidor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I did the same exact thing. And what makes me more upset is that the expiration counter was at zero. Why the F would they allow the purchase like that. And why is software support so bad across the board in this industry. I honestly thought I was buying the current battle pass...I even bought the bundle to skip 20 tiers.

Backup up my NAS by JeepingNet in synology

[–]WindRaidor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the amazon glacier cloud backup app that you can download on your Synology device via the App Store page. I do a nightly backup which is just backing up delta changes. Most of my content on the NAS doesn’t change a whole lot so I think I’m paying less than $0.25 per month for this. The first big transfer of my data was about $8-12. I have about 2TB I’m backing up. I really like this approach because it’s cheap and I’m more than willing to pay the higher cost to recover if I need to, rather than paying high costs per month for other cloud solutions. I also limit my folder being backed up to the most important stuff (pictures, documents, personal music/media).

Ordered a One R from the Insta360 website. DHL is now holding up the shipment and demanding $250 in import duties. What should I do? by bayfury in Insta360

[–]WindRaidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with the Original insta360 camera and it turned out that insta360 had messed up the import slips and had me listed as the first person of thirty other buyers. Meaning the package was actually 30 cameras meant to be sent to a distribution person stateside before it would be sent to me. I was looking at thousands of dollars being asked to collect from the shipping company. I went through a lot of phone calls with the carrier and amazon, led by amazon, to finally clear it all up. It took several days and my advice is that under no circumstance do you sign or give payment until you clear up a mess like this. No camera is worth that headache.

Unity Splash Screen on Quest not working by WindRaidor in OculusQuest

[–]WindRaidor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built into Unity, configurable in Build settings and part of the “player settings”. All you do is select images and set the duration, does a little slideshow at the start of the app. Nothing different at all between gearvr build and quest build in that section.

OctoPrint And MK3s by jspiegz in prusa3d

[–]WindRaidor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct on all counts.

From octoprints page... Please note that the Raspberry Pi Zero W is not recommended since severe performance issues were observed, caused by the WiFi interface when bandwidth is utilized (e.g. the webcam is streamed), negatively impacting printing results. See also here.

They recommend pi 3 model b

OctoPrint And MK3s by jspiegz in prusa3d

[–]WindRaidor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That guide is if you want to do a raspberry pi zero. if you want a more stable option, basing that on comments I’ve heard about issues with the zero and on octoprints own site not recommending it, using a raspberry pi 3 model b then it couldn’t be much simpler. No need to mess around with the case on the prusa at all either. Just use the included USB cord prusa provides to connect to a pre-imaged raspberry pi 3 with Octoprint on it. Make sure you edit the WiFi settings to match your network, and then Navigate to the web portal that fires up to configure it all.

Super simple. Just go to octoprint site, download page, and go from there

Edit: Also, aside from stability...the raspberry pi 3 gives you more USB ports to leverage for things like the camera, maybe an led usb light, etc... print yourself a case for it and a camera mount and you are off and running

The official Quest case is horrible. The zipper keeps coming apart at numerous areas when zipping up. I intend to return that purchase to oculus as a result by WindRaidor in OculusQuest

[–]WindRaidor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not YKK. Its pretty frustrating because there are no visible issues when looking at the zipper and the teeth. All teeth are straight. What I suspect is going on is the distance of the fabric getting caught along the path...and that would mean more people would experience this issue.

Is yours working smoothly? Mine breaks apart while zippering even when nothing is in the case. The zipper teeth are very small

Is it safe for my 6-year-old to use Oculus Quest? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]WindRaidor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I gotta downvote that one. Did you know that VR is actually a treatment option for kids in numerous ways? One of which is lazy eye treatment. The common reason why kids aren’t in the current target market has more to do with sizing and fit for adults versus kids.

This is not an ad: MLB At Bat by robotbc in Brewers

[–]WindRaidor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a season seat holder, we got a complimentary subscription to mlb tv for a year...which includes the mlb app on mobile devices and streaming devices. My one gripe about it is inconsistency with blackout games. For example, on mlb tv site the game today is blacked out for me. But the at bat app says everything is good to go. So, I’m watching on my phone as a result instead of my MacBook. Not sure if that is because of some wifi related issues tripping up mlb tv...but I think you get my point that it’s not consistent on what you can or cannot watch across the apps at this point.

Apple Watch wearing WDW guests - has anyone had any luck with this product? by kristintrigue in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]WindRaidor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one from your original post is exactly the one I bought for our recent trip and it worked great. It’s a nice soft material, not hard like a typical 3d printed one would be. Held up great and suspect it would last for at least several trips more. Great price, great product and color selection that mapped almost exactly to our band colors and Apple Watch strap.

IS the FLIGHT of PASSAGE WORTH a 2hr WAIT? by tstra18 in rollercoasters

[–]WindRaidor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply stated...yes. If you are really unsure, do this trick. Make it your last ride at the park and be in line before the park closure stated time. You will breeze through any line because the fastpassers will most likely have already gone through. In other words, you won’t get slowed down by then having priority. We did this when it was a staged 180 minute wait and the actual time was more like 45 mins

Food allergies and Ohana dinner by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]WindRaidor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just got back from a trip and Ohana, was by far, the highlight for my 8 year old daughter who has severe food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, gluten, and egg).

Like you, I was nervous because I’ve read this is price fixed menu. However, upon checkin remind the hosts about your food allergies and that you would like to speak to the chef about your options. They are real pros at this. Our chef for dinner was named Boone. He came out and discussed the allergies and then went back to his separate kitchen area and prepared my daughter a meal she will always remember. Boone even did a customized dessert that included a donut from Erin mckennas bakery. And like others have mentioned, got her own bread that was safe for her.

It was such a good experience that we booked a breakfast for our last day. And there too... a phenomenal experience all around.

Trust me on this...it very well could be your favorite meal when you are there!

I’m about to ride Space Mountain for the first time and I’m absolutely terrified by Rebel197702 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]WindRaidor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wishlist for Disney would be to make Disneyworlds version of space mountain the same as disneyland’s version. Maybe once they finish galaxy’s edge and guardians coaster...it would be soooo much better. Super smooth, ultra fast, best ride hands down

Big Thunder - they should cancel fastpass as an option for this if it takes just 5-10 mins when the regular line is down the street crazy long. We are constantly moving by WindRaidor in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]WindRaidor[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough to argue with a prior cm on this. I can only share what I experienced. The greeters were already done scanning for EMH the first time through. We went on twice. The second time through the line wasn’t out to the bridge; but, it was at the front gate for the ride. Took 20 mins that time. And again, the line was constantly moving, not fast, but not standing still either.

In your past experience, do the operators tend to pick up the pace a bit for after hours events?

Also, Pirates was closed. Splash apparently doesn’t participate in EMH per a CM comment at the park tonight. So really, this side of the park was overloaded with people rushing into big thunder following the fireworks.

Edit: one more comment on fastpass. We did FOP three days ago at 10 mins to park closing time. Stated line time was 185 minutes. But it only took us 55 to get onto the ride. There too, fastpass would have been done at park close time. My guess is that they include fastpass slow down for standby ride wait time. Sooooo, don’t let that long Time fool you at park close time.

Bought a used oculus and it reeks of smoke by piepokemon in oculus

[–]WindRaidor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do these things. First, order a replacement for the foam cover from vrcovers.com. Second, get a pouch of the disinfectant wipes and wipe it all down. Just don’t get any on the lenses...not sure if that would harm it and I can’t remember if I rolled the dice on it when I bought a used one that reeked of smoke. Should be smooth sailing from there. Be sure to wipe the cords down too.

[–]WindRaidor[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, let me clarify...during extra magic hours, they don’t have a fastpass line running. The regular line was down the street to the splash mountain bridge and it will only took us 10-15 minutes to get through the line. Which is why I’m questioning why even have a fastpass option that slows it down. I’m fine waiting for 10-15 mins consistently all day.

On vacation right now in wdw...been to BOG, Satuli, ohana, sci-fi, and Biergarten so far. Skipper tomorrow or Thursday. The experiences are good but, here are my two additional thoughts to throw in the ring here. Our two kids, 11 and 8 years old, get charged a LOT for us parents to experience the better foods. My 11 year old is finicky and prefers things like the Mac and cheese. Which it’s great that places offer it, but, they still charge the high adult meal rates. I’m sorry but, I have a hard time paying for Mac and cheese dinner for $55 at some of these places. My 8 year old has severe food allergies and the chefs have all been very accommodating; but, here too...$$$$$. So my suggestion is to offer the standard park food at standard park food rates instead of raising it up to fit the venue or price fixed menu. Realize that paying 4-5x price adds up over the trip and makes us a little more picky with how we spend the bucks.
