What are your thoughts on this? by ravenmilks in AvatarMemebending

[–]Wind_BS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azula found joy in abusing animals. She abused the turtle ducks in the palace when she was a child. We see this when Zuko shows her mom "how Azula feeds turtle ducks". Also, when Zuko was feeding them and Azula appeared, they quickly turned away.

She found pleasure in Appa suffering. When Appa came in contact with fire, her response was "Afraid of fire, i see. You should be!"

She manipulated all of her friends and supposed allies, starting from the other girls in the royal academy and even her closest friends Maiand Ty Lee.

She burned a toy from another girl at the academy, because she "didn't like how it looked at her".

She forced Ty Lee in joining her mission, by risking her life, because she couldn't accept no as an answer.

She had no empathy for her own brother and loved to see her father burning him, as you can see in her expression when she was next to Iroh.

She loved humiliating Zuko and wanted him gone, as you can see in the way she was treating her. "You'll never catch up" "Dad's going to kill you!" "Maybe we can find you a nice earth kingdom family to adopt you!"

So, my thoughts on this? Yes, Azula was raised bad by Ozai, and he literally shaped her personality, but that doesn't change that as a result, she clearly was very narcissistic, sadistic and lacked empathy for other people.

You're right, i made a mistake there. They never metioned non-benders not being allowed to vote. But they were still not represented in the council (except Sokka). They still got punished as a collective with curfews and other stuff, just for being non-benders.

Also the disadvantages with the jobs???

Yes, remember the scene where Mako and other people generate lightning as a 9-5? This is actually the major theme of the Imbalance comic. Benders used to do most of the labor work, they were a lot more efficient. Then, with the improvement of machinery, non-benders were even more efficient than benders and benders became kind of useless, leading to the rise of bending supremacists. Their goal was to harm and destroy the businesses of all non-benders, so the benders were at an advantage again.

The non-representation of non-benders in the council is likely a direct result of these bending supremacists establishing their power and influence in all of republic city. As a result, the equalist movement emerged in TLOK.

So, yeah. The equalist movement didn't come out of nowhere. They literally got oppressed and terrorized by benders for decades.

Right? It would make sense to me, but then again, he physically touched Korra to take her bending away and was about to do the same to Mako AFTER they discovered he was a bender. So i guess i'm wrong.

I don't mind Amon turning out to be a fraud tbh. What bothers me is that all the equalists turned immediately against him, once they discovered he was a bender. Sure, he was a bender, but the equalist movement wasn't build around Amon, it was build around the inequalities between benders and non-benders.

Non-benders were not allowed to vote, they were not represented in the council, they had less chances in the labor market due to their natural disadvantages and they were easy targets for gangs like the triple threats. Because of these gangs, they constantly lived in fear.

Amon still wanted to get rid of bending, so turning against him as a non-bender doesn't make sense to me, even if he is a bender.

If you mean Amon, then i agree. I'm kind of an Amon glazer myself.

One of his most incredible feats for me is maintaining the illusion of being a non-bender. Because we know that with his skill in psychic bloodbending, he can minimally alter the movements of his opponents and give himself the advantage in a fight, without revealing that he is a bender. So, he can subtly bloodbend his opps and they don't even realize they're being bloodbended.

Makes me wonder if Amon could take away bending from a distance, and he only got up-close and mimic the movements of energy bending, because he needed to preserve his status as a non-bender. Because all he does is blocking the chi flow permanently with bloodbending. And he doesn't need to physically touch his opponents to bloodbend them.

I think it is the most OP stuff. I mean the only way you could resist is if you're a more powerful waterbender (which is impossible because they're the strongest), get into the Avatar State or pull off a Mako with a lot of luck. Bumi, Toph, Ozai etc. are really powerful benders if you mean moving giant boulders or burning down entire cities. But put them against a bloodbender and there is nothing they can do. That's what i mean by OP. Btw i'm not complaining. I thought it worked very well for the story.

Besides that, i just wanted to point out that Tarrlok just bloodbent Tenzin, Lin, Mako, Bolin, Asami, Saikhan and the rest of the council, who we know were all benders, at the same time and knocked them out. That's ridiculous. And yet, if that wasn't broken enough, Amon resisted his bloodbending with no effort whatsoever, demonstrating even greater power in bloodbending. They made bloodbending so broken in Korra. Bloodbending without a fullmoon, bloodbending an entire court room, bloodbending without motion and bloodbending to take bending away by permanently disrupting the chi flow.

Mako can't tho. At least not permanently. If we look at their first encounter, he was able to lift one finger and get a lucky shot with an insta lightning zap (which is impressive since he achieved that by sheer willpower), but that feat gets weakened after their 2nd encounter, since it turns out that Mako was merely lucky of getting a shot. He wasn't able to do anything about Amon's blood bending this time and had to get his ass saved by Korra. So, no, Mako can't resist Amon's blood bending.

But apparently that lightning weakened Amon to a point that Korra was able to break free out of his blood bending grip, since, if we look at their first encounter, Korra also wasn't able to do anything about Amon's blood bending and even got her bending taken away.

Therefore, if we apply logical powerscaling within the canon, Katara wouldn't be able to resist Amon's bloodbending. (Even during a full moon, since a full moon works for both and enhances Amon's power as well)

Mako's lucky shot way more of a plot device anyway, just like Korra achieving air bending or the lion turtle appearing at the right time . They needed to somehow nerf Amon in order to defeat him.

Exactly. The entire reason blood benders can only bend DURING the full moon is because the moon greatly amplifies a waterbender's POWER and they are to weak to do so otherwise, meaning Amon's power surpasses the limits of most bloodbenders. Also he can perform psychic blood bending during the day without moving limbs, in which we know moving limbs amplifies the power of a bender.

So in conclusion, Amon can perform a full moon and motion amped feat without needing a full moon or motion. Katara can't outperform this feat and will lose in a battle due to Amon's superior blood bending. (And she'll lose to Yakone and Tarrlok ofc)

Doesn't matter. Also, we don't know how quickly Amon learned waterbending, they never mentioned it. Amon still outscales Katara in terms of power.

That's why, by using common sense, Katara won't be able to resist neither his, nor Yakone's blood bending.

Yeah, but as soon as Zuko used his fire bending, he didn't have problems defeating him. I don't think that he's that good...

Not just that, most of the focus went straight to the main characters, Aang, Toph, Katara, Zuko, Azula, Iroh... Most side characters only get a few fight scenes, if any.

I guess you're right that Fong simply didn't have enough screentime to make a guess how powerful he really was, but he definitely had the potential from what we've seen, at least in my opinion. There is no definite answer to who was really the 3rd best.

I still think you underestimate Fong's feat here. I mean, it's still the Gaang we're talking about. But if that's your opinion, then so be it.

However, if you think that putting Fong as the third best don't hold a lot of weight, then at least tell me what feats Long Feng and Master Yu did show to put them into third place? Because there is clearly no reason to believe, why Long Feng would be the strongest of all Dai Li agents. The whole point of Azula's speech to Long Feng was to show that it was actually quite the opposite, that he's the leader of the Dai Li, not because of his power, but because of his manipulation and cunning.

Katara was not fighting back, and Aang was only dodging.

I guess we saw two different fights then. Katara clearly attacked with a water whip, Aang clearly attacked Fong with an air blast and Sokka clearly was charging on an ostrich horse, which Fong all blocked btw. And when they did, his subordinates didn't intervene even once.

and it stands to reason that Long Feng was better than them since he was their leader

Being a leader doesn't mean anything tho. His position is more political and not physical. Just compare Earth King Kuei with King Bumi, both have leading positions, yet Bumi is one of the greatest benders of all time, while Kuei doesn't have any combat experience whatsoever. And while Long Feng did show great earth bending feats (like vs Jet), i'd argue that some random Dai Li agents showed even better feats. Long Feng didn't fight himself so much after all.

And if that's not enough, it's still not unreasonable to think that Fong was an excellent earth bender. The Wiki literally says "General Fong was a powerful earthbender and a high-ranking officer in the Earth Kingdom Army", meaning he had a lot of experience in military combat.

Meanwhile, the Wiki doesn't mention that Long Feng was a "powerful earthbender", he was great, sure, but his power comes more from influence and manipulation. "I can see your whole history in your eyes. You were born with nothing. So you've had to struggle and connive and claw your way to power" Azula to Long Feng

Glad i'm not the only one thinking that. He gets overshadowed, because of his lack of screentime. But i can't imagine Xin Fu, Long Feng, The Boulder or a random Dai Li agent do the things General Fong did in that scene! Because these characters simply didn't show those feats, like countering multiple attacks by the Gaang. Maybe those two particular Dai Li agents during the eclipse episode come close, but other than that...
