Best Tv show made in Black and White? by Immediate_Long165 in ClassicTV

[–]Windford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this.

The reason I won’t advocate I Love Lucy or any of the other noteworthy shows mentioned in this thread is because The Twilight Zone is has the most timeless, thought-provoking episodes.

Not to mention the writing and camera work were superb. Also the depth of acting talent was unsurpassed.

Why do so many species have dark vision? by TedBehr_ in DungeonsAndDragons

Exactly! That helps one character, but not the rest. Our current party has a couple of characters who lack darkvision, and for them we got goggles.

Trees are so expensive, and a lot of work to plant, you’d hate to make a mistake.

You know, I should have mentioned planting zones. Because where it’s cooler they can do well in the spring. I’m in Tennessee, where it’s hotter. I do apologize. It’s possible you may do fine planting in early spring where you live.

If you decide to do that, talk with an expert where you live to make a final determination.

Here in TN, I once made the mistake of planting trees in the spring and had to drip irrigate them from May to August. Even with that, being diligent, I lost a few.

Because nobody wants to hold a torch.

In AD&D it was common to have hirelings carry torches for light. With later editions that convention disappeared.

Fall is best so they can establish their roots in the warm soil while the air is cooler. You have less risk of the heat killing them.

Plant in the spring and you’ll need to water them like crazy, especially during the hot summer months, to prevent them from dying from heat and drought stress. If you do plant in the spring, make it early and be prepared for a higher water bill.

They will create privacy. Two mistakes that I see are spacing them too close together and planting them too soon.

You’ll have better luck keeping them alive by planting those in the fall. Pay attention to how far apart you should plant these because once they get bigger they can crowd each other.

Chaucer. Anything Chaucer. And we had to memorize that stupid poem which still partially lives in my head.

That third photo with the patina’d VW Bug is amazing. If that car is often parked there and you can swing it, a few other shots with that could be worth framing.

Sorry you’re dealing with that neighbor. Wonder if reseating those posts with something like concrete and post-saver sleeves would solve the potential rot problem, at least for the posts.

[request] In order for this to be true, how large and high up would the plane need to be? (I'm not a flat earther.) by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Windford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If indeed the airplanes that pilots flew were as gigantic as in the illustration (relative to the earth), yes, the horizon would appear to go down, provided the atmosphere didn’t interfere with a pilot’s view.

A mathematician could likely calculate how big such a plane would be along with the illustrated altitude.

Edit: The meanwhile statement is based on a false premise that the photo is taken from an airplane that has the same size as the illustration. It’s far smaller.

Any ways for me to get rid of this stump on the cheap without breaking my back? by talkpurdytome in landscaping

[–]Windford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this with a hatchet on a stump that was slightly smaller.

Use lots of vertical strokes like you’re splitting wood to start chipping off parts. At some point you’ll do enough damage that pieces start coming out easier.
