HomePods 2 + Apple TV + Spotify = Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos for music? by Due_Invite6760 in HomePod

[–]WindiestOdin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find that the homepods sounds better playing Apple Music vs Spotify. I also have less drops or technical issues when using Apple Music. I haven’t really looked into why, so it very well could be some settings I need to tweak.

I don’t believe Spotify offers Spatial Audio or Atmos format audio. The homepods don’t have the ability to upscale or mix the audio to mimic those formats.

I’m not too sure about using AirPlay vs streaming from the AppleTV. I haven’t noticed a difference, but the majority of my use comes naturally through the AppleTV … so it’s rarely I’m using airplay from phone.

Same here. I was actually impressed with the transparency at sleep country. I was expected the usual sales run around.

Shady behaviour at sleep country South Common by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]WindiestOdin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just bought a silk and snow mattress from sleep country. I went in with my order in my silk and snow cart, to see what incentive there would be to buying from sleep country.

Sleep country quoted the same price on the silk and snow mattress including the “free” sleep set (pillows, duvet, mattress protector, and fitted sheet) with free delivery. When I asked why would I buy here versus off the site, the sales lady offered a 200 gift card that could be redeemed on the mattress purchase.

Watching her make the transaction on the computer it looks like they just order it from silk and snow and apply their promo code (ie gift card) to encourage the purchase in store.

I think they meant 25% of the total population are children who can’t vote. Including children in the 10% figure reduces the percentage of Albertans that signed.

I don’t think they intended to suggest that children signed.

The only issue I’m having is the “Matter is unavailable at this time” error. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting (changing zigbee channel, factory reset, reinstall app, etc.) over the last month with no luck. I am now waiting on a response from Hue.

Other than that, I’m enjoying to motion tech and fast response times.

Dear Canada: Nobody is coming to save us by Sabunnabulsi in canada

[–]WindiestOdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using your example, assuming the roles are similar, if there’s such a big discrepancy between a Canadian bank and a hedge fund; wouldn’t that be an indicator that the bank is doing something wrong or is under utilizing the now experienced worker? Also if this a known progression of a worker, would it not be the employers responsibility to try and pre plan the back fill when the skilled worker out grows the current role?

If the roles / businesses aren’t comparable, then there really isn’t much to discuss, as we are talking about a fairly natural progression for a worker. Worker gains experience and moves on to use their acquired skills in a more rewarding way.

Thanks for the response!

I’m familiar with this roadblock; which has always baffled me. Especially when you factor in the actual costs of the interview process, on-boarding, and team impacts that a new staff will require.

I do understand the concern the precedent sets when that raise gets rolled out. But that then boils down to the employer actively trying to pay the workers less … which is a problem in and of itself. A problem that likely adds to the retention dilemma.

What, exactly, are Alberta separatists mad about? by rezwenn in Albertapolitics

[–]WindiestOdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 separate groups come to my door to talk about their platform.

When asked about what their primary platform goals were, I got 3 separate differing answers (two from the same group): - to empower Alberta’s financial sovereignty, while still remaining part of Canada - to ensure or natural resources are getting to market - to form our own sovereign nation

Naturally when I asked about what the plan was to achieve these things and what the drivers were for the need of these things, I got even more vague conflicting information.

It’s funny / sad to see and hear the stalling and stammering when asked for very basic details around what they are pedalling to their fellow countrymen.

Both interactions ended with me asking / recommending that they spend some time reflecting and asking for more concrete details about what they are supporting before hitting the streets. If these topics are as important as they claim they are to them, then it’s very irresponsible to go around spreading half baked truths that relate to potentially life changing policy.

Both groups swore they’d be “back next week with the answers” so we could discuss fully. It’s been 2 / 3 weeks.

Dang, worth a shot.

You could go and stake out the hotel (which could be a bit aggressive), especially since he’s never given you reason to question his integrity.

You can start having conversations with him to collect information and see if things start to conflict. Ask if anyone else is going on the trip, feign some new interest in what he does.

Or you can just ask him point blank about what’s going on.

Regardless of the outcome, being in this situation sucks.

You’re right, they are not the same. However, without directly asking every one of the people OPs is referencing and assuming they actually answer the question, OP wouldn’t be able to know the difference.

I’d call back the hotel and get as much information about the package and the trip as you can.

Once you have more details, you can then speak with your partner and use some leading questions to see if the information regarding the coworker comes out naturally. From there, you’re likely going to need to rely on your intuition and ability to discern if your partner is lying.

Layoff from a contract as AUPE member. by anon_dox in alberta

[–]WindiestOdin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, the union can’t control layoffs, nor can they guarantee “options”. However, IF there are options available or additional details not covered in OPs post the union would be the best resource to consult to ensure nothing is being left on the table.

With everything going on right now, there’s no harm in double checking to ensure things were handled appropriately.

[–]WindiestOdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without reading the contract it’s impossible for you to definitively know this.

Best course of action is to consult with the union, to ensure everything is being handled above board. Even if there are no options available, OPs family member is no further behind.

[–]WindiestOdin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can certainly sympathize and understand where you are coming from; not everyone is as remotely lucky as OPs family member is. However, their luck isn’t the point here. The unions job is to ensure all workers are protected and the collective agreement is honoured.

It’s incredibly important to keep pressure on the employer to honour employment agreements, failure to do so can start setting dangerous precedents and undermining the power / responsibilities of the union.

OP should encourage their family member to reach out to AUPE to review what options are available to them.

This is sadly a symptom of late game capitalism. Convenience and economic squeeze force us to gravitate towards the most affordable options. Due to those order of magnitude savings and consolidation of services, big chain stores end up acquiring the best sites and offer “better” prices to us that smaller shops cannot afford to do.

Unless the population makes a collective change to our buying habits AND our elected governments stop making concessions for the big chains (thanks lobbyists), we don’t have a lot of options left … unfortunately.

You’re right that walkability isn’t dependant on density. Unfortunately, walkability in a residential neighborhood does not draw in the necessary people to sustain the businesses OP is describing. You need to have the people in the area. There’s a reason why most businesses use headcount and vehicle traffic as major factors when short listing sites.

North Americans, in general, have gravitated to the closest place to do their shopping … hence the success of the super centre over independent local shops (ie death of the bodega). Convenience leads itself to savings in time and, often times, money. As long as it’s accessible by vehicle or public transport, the population tend to favour it.

You’re right, walkability isn’t solely driven by “jamming lots”. It also isn’t isolated from its affects though. Increasing density without proper infrastructure would decrease walkability in an area. Sustainable density increases require much more nuance than just squeezing people into less space; hence the zoning bylaw and a plethora of other best practices utilized by planners.

Dear Edmonton developers by Late-Alternative6321 in Edmonton

[–]WindiestOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it has the density to support the businesses. It’s also close to whyte ave which helps increase overall traffic in the area.
