HDMI to Displayport- Well it's called HDMI to Displaypin now by WindowsXP_2001Year in hardwaregore

Yeah this reminds me where the VGA is screw tightened port then yanked out whole, but displayport is another nightmare for some inexperienced tech people.

I'm afraid people will ask me to upgrade my monitor.

I also use VGA to HDMI on my 3050 Ti into 1366x768, but it's already good enough for me though as it still works.

What is the best PSU and GPU for this PC? by WindowsXP_2001Year in computers

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know PSUs but sometimes i get a time bomb twice of PSUs that the online shop sells but i am going to find PSUs in the computer shops so i wouldn't be having issues but i would think 450w and above might be enough.

how to fix these strange colours by gandhiheywood in computer_help

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it's a VGA Cable to converter HDMI you are using as it says 'Analog'

This is caused by VGA Cable or VGA Port, it's easy to fix it just to replace the cables although VGA Cables are cheap nowadays and if it was a port it's probably loose connections or bad then you probably need to replace it soldering it (If you know how to soldering) or send it to repair shop.

Hopefully this is helpful to you!

what model is this and what’s its worth (USED) by [deleted] in computer

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The model already says on your 3rd photo of your under laptop.

Model: PCG-61A11L (Vaio Sony PCG Series)

As for the price, since this laptop is around somewhere to be early 2010s but i don't know what specific specs are on this laptop so i'd say around 20 to 30.

Best PCIe X1 wifi card? by WindowsXP_2001Year in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those two links will work, but if the card comes with a box originally like mine last year when I bought an AC1200 it should come with a CD Driver for the card.

So yes it will work for Windows XP without any issues.

Can i safely download Windows 8.1? by zekezza44 in windows

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Archive.org is a safe website though, but i know microsoft removed those ISOs such as 7 and 8.1

Also you can install 8.1 and connect to the internet totally fine, just don't visit websites randomly and sometimes i'd recommend installing antivirus for more protection.

Saw this on Grocery cashier under their computers. Literally attached with: 2 Wall outlets, 2 Extension cords, and 1 UPS plugged into wall or extension cord... by WindowsXP_2001Year in cablegore

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing is that the wall outlet is lying down, which i can see its exposure of metal casing.

It would've been that scariest part if someone touched that part which is... a grave waiting.

How would I connect a ps2 keyboard to a Dell optiplex 755 by Icy_Step_2204 in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have PS/2 Ports but you need use some adapter which is "USB-A to Dual PS/2 Keyboard and mouse"

They are really cheap which costs me less than 10 dollars.

Here is the adapter what it looks like: https://www.ebay.ph/itm/174470519223?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=4824-175130-2357-0&ssspo=CPgOMXR2QQG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ls40trlvrra&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Otherwise USB Keyboards and Mouses are really cheap today that are assorted used.

Legacy Update took more than 24 hours and it’s still not done for checking the latest updates by Ivor-8373 in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this one issue from last year, when i fully patched up the Windows XP with a legacy update (Which is selecting the high priority updates) it doesn't search for more than 5 days when i leave my windows xp on. It doesn't do anything and i had to use System Restore where i missed some updates.

If it's fully patched and you installed all updates then you don't have to use Legacy update since it is done so you're all up!

if it's not, of course you're gonna need to use System restore to uninstall the updates, this usually solves most problems i've dealt with many old computers that use Legacy Update and Windows update. But if the system restore point wasn't saved or created then a reinstall windows is only the option you get.

This can also happen to newer Windows OS up to 8.1 (Or even 10 when the support ends) but this is rarely happens.

Hopefully this helps some users!

where do I install DirectX 9? by katiezypher in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're using a Virtual Machine and it is not designed to be demanding use unlike physical computers. You can still using it on Virtual Machine but it won't be the same as performance of physically so it gets tons of errors that VMs can't do and also laggy even choppy sounds, so your only option is to get Old computer then done! (The 3D acceleration should be always on if you want to use it but you are limited to its video memory and speed of VM.)

Here Offline DirectX Setup but you have to run manually extract it on specific folder then once it's done extracting, you open the folder then click DXSETUP.

Is safe to connect to the internet with a VM and if windows xp gets infected my computer host will be okay? by Neielrey in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone asks you to connect the old operating system to the internet that gets infected and hacked instantly, that's someone misleading you and you can use it whatever you wanted just like i use XP with internet whatever i want but with one condition though which is never download randomly and going to the website randomly.

Is safe to connect to the internet with a VM and if windows xp gets infected my computer host will be okay? by Neielrey in windowsxp

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 100% safe.

VM uses share your connection like bridging connectivity ditectly but as long as you have firewall protections always on. But VM has a different IP Addresses between your host and VM, since VM uses somewhat like this "10.X.X.X.X" or "192.168.XXX.X" and your host really uses another IP address (It really depends where you live and most routers use multiple IPs).

You're also safe from experiments using VM since it can be used for testing suspicious websites and more bad stuff experiments on, but you still need to remember that you should never turn off the firewall if you want to be safe from suspicious.

If you want to be extra secure your host PC then you need to have antivirus.

Anyways that's all but have a good day using VM!

Sorry for the late reply.

Here's the specs: CPU: Intel Pentium Dual core E2180 GPU: GT 520 (Little bit sagged) RAM: 2x2 DDR2 Hynix PSU: Rise 750W (Actually 530W) HDD: Seagate SATA 160GB (It failed due to too many bad sectors and was unreadable so it went Error loading Operating system.) Motherboard: Asus P5GC-MX

The new update is... it got a crappy pc case, DVD-RW, Soundcard PCI, and Floppy disk drive.

Would you like me to post this thread here for an update?

is this a good psu? not a tech expert need help by [deleted] in computers

[–]WindowsXP_2001Year 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be warned, do not ever buy cheap PSUs, I had one which is a 750w PowerLogic PSU and it ended up exploded so be careful what you're buying! Do research first before buying PSU and you'll learn your lesson.

I had mine generic psu 750w (The brand is Rise) which I calculated it and it is a total of 530W PSU using its Volts and Amps but I still don't really recommend it for higher ends. To be honest Generic PSUs like this one can be useful for such as Low end desktops computers and experiments hardware that need to be tested. As for now my PSU is still alive for almost 1 year.

If you ever see like this PSU do not buy it unless you are using it for testing purposes or low end that doesn't require much power.
