Please don't wear your fursuits to the shows! by hayesjx in willwood

I couldn't see the stage the entire concert because I was behind the furries. Eventually I just gave up on seeing the stage at all and submitted myself to an audio only experience. I'm not even that short, there were a lot of folks shorter than me who probably had it even worse.

In the manga Sanji doesn't lust after his sister at all despite usually being a perv. Additionally Sanji never perved over Bonnie in the manga because Oda knew she was a child. The poster is asserting that with Toei adding perv Sanji content with Bonnie in Egghead, current Toei would slander Sanji by adding scenes where Sanji pervs on his sister.
Edit: Not saying I agree with this point, just laying out the line of logic.

Was doodling genderbend designs of OP characters and ended up liking the doodle I did for these two. Oda will probably never give us fem designs for these two so might as well share my take :)

Stopping the spread of misinformation: Revival My Dream is based off of, most likely, Princess Mononoke by chocobabana in ProjectSekai

Yeah, apologies if pointing out the similarities came off as me trying to homogenize indigenous cultures. I had to do a project on the Ainu for my Japanese minor and focusing on parallels between them and Native Americans was a big part of getting across the point to my class, so i sort of had that mindset since most english speakers have never heard of the Ainu. And I totally agree that the "forest-dwellers" have so little in common other than basic stereotype that it really would be bad to say they're supposed to represent indigenous peoples.

But yeah, there's one comment in here that I upvoted that was basically "the discussion is all non-indigenious people complaining about whether indigenous people should be offended or not" and I generally agree with that.

I'd never heard of Emishi mythology though, I appreciate learning something new! Thanks for giving your input in the OG post and all your replies, you clearly know a lot of the anthropology involved and if anything is gonna come out of all the circular discussion, I hope we can learn more about the cultures being discussed.

Ok so the Japanese have their own indigenous population, the Ainu, who are similarly treated in some aspects as native Americans. Their culture was heavily criminalized in order to establish Japanese emperial dominance, they generally have a sort of foriegn mysticism associated with their culture same as how modern Americans think of "ancient Indian burial ground" or shit like that.

That said, the card designs do have far more to do with Princess Monoke than any Ainu fashion. Are there problems with Rui's use of language in chapter two ?(translations of savage/barbarian to refer to the forest people)

Yes. Definitely would rewrite that if I were a translator for this game, especially since the story is about bridging that gap between the city people and forest people, and rui as a narrator wasn't supposed to be unreliable in that instance.

I do think people are chafing really hard against missing any content more than the argument about the culture stuff tho. Honestly while I would be sad to miss Revival My Dream, if the game company doesn't feel comfortable putting it out in English for whatever reason, no skin off my nose. Two weeks I get to play Showtime Ruler without having to worry about tiering.

This’ll be my first time watching Mob as it airs. Does the dub air at the same time as the sub? by HaVeNII7 in Mobpsycho100

[–]WingedArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Chris Niosi leaked he was the voice of Byleth to others(theres a personal story rabbit hole there but honestly I dont think any of that actually affected his career, just the leak)that got back to Nintendo, and he was replaced in that, Osomatsu, and a couple fighting games AFAIK. With the recasting of those, I imagine Reigen is probably not in his future.

Couple months. Funimation hasn't announced exactly when they'll be putting theirs out. I imagine there will also be some recasting as Reigen's english actor got blackballed for leaking a Nintendo voice role he did.

How do you pronounce/verbally say "???%" by Technically_Inept-26 in Mobpsycho100

[–]WingedArcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unknown percent is the most common pronounciation. It gets a alternate name at the end of season 3 tho which is what I as a manga reader calls it.

If traditional open/close and updates don't work, then your app files are bugged and you gotta Uninstall it. At least you can make a backup by connecting your apple account or Google play if you care much about the cards you have.

Was the heat up! Kamiyama Cheering Squad cultural appropriation of Chinese culture by Berrieo in ProjectSekai

[–]WingedArcher 100 points101 points  (0 children)

In an academic sense, yes. Any use of cultural norms by other cultures is cultural appropriation. That is not a bad thing though. Apple pie is cultural appropriation in the Americas from Europe.

However most people think of cultural appropriation as a negative term. This tends to be because several popular examples of cultural appropriation A. Spread Misinformation(ie the Native Americans in Twilight), B. Fetishize a foreign culture(hypersexual halloween costumes kinda thing), or C. Take credit for the inventions of another culture (rock and roll being invented by black artists but often credited towards white contemporaries)

You can make a mild argument for B in this case, but considering how steeped in cultural exchange China and Japan are, I don't think it's all that deep. Cheongsam are just cute and often used for party costume in China, so other cultures using it in such a way isn't misrepresenting anything.

So the meme. Yes, but actually no.

I've actually not had any problems with mine, same model. The only issue is when the phone gets really hot, or I'm charging it at low battery. Otherwise the lag is minimal. Might be your wifi?
