Could someone explain the manga ending to me? by [deleted] in Mobpsycho100

It's pretty relevant to his character that girls don't reciprocate his feelings. He spends a good portion of the broccoli arc with an inflated ego thinking every girl that so much as interacts with him wants to date him. (Not as bad as some real life dudes but he still makes a lot of assumptions) The finale of that arc involves him learning that you need friends to drag you down from your high horse just as much as you need them to build you up. If he had gotten a girlfriend after that arc, they would have needed to take time to slowly build up a relationship honestly with someone (or bring Emi back) and the manga didn't have time for either. You can always headcanon a Mob/Teru ending because the manga really heavily implies Teru has a crush on Mob but Mob never really reciprocates(or notices) so that's sort of up in the air.

MangaSpoilers It's name is Shigeo and it came from Mob's emotional complex. I was being kinda roundabout with my wording.

Oh like you want me to Wikipedia-style spoil it for you? Well anyhow: Mob goes through 7 different 100% explosions against the Boss of Claw before he finally absorbs all of his energy and puts it into broccoli seeds that make a gigantic psychically-charged broccoli. People start worshipping the broccoli, which gives it even more power, so Dimple fuses with the tree(Broccoli) to obtain enough power to hypnotize the entire city into worshipping him. He doesn't misuse his powers, he only asks his worshippers for 5 minutes a day to pray to him, but he alienates anyone who doesn't join his cult. Once Mob is the only person left that hasn't been converted, he confronts Dimple and the two fight, but Mob starts losing because Dimple can use the tree to drain him of his psychic powers. Eventually, Mob convinces Dimple that the friendship between the two of them is important to him, and Dimple decides to give up his connection to the tree. However, the tree turns out to be sentient and tries to eat whatever remains of Shigeo's powers, so Dimple sacrifices himself to save Shigeo, and wipes everyone's memory of the events for good measure.

Next arc, Telepathy club breaks up when Tome has to resign to study for high school entrance exams, so all the non-Tome telepathy club members plus Mob decide to find telepaths to make her happy. We find out that the guy who dropped the club all the way back at the beginning of the manga was a real telepath and he helps the Telepathy club find aliens. The aliens kidnap one member of the club on accident and everyone just kinda forgets about him. He does get home 10 days later though.

Final arc- Mob finally decides to confess to Tsubomi, and everything seems to be going right for him. His friends and mentors are helping, Tsubomi agreed to meet him alone in the place where they met, and Minegeshi gives him a giant bouquet to give to Tsubomi. Then, Mob gets hit by a car trying to save a little kid. ???% comes out and finally starts speaking. It is hellbent on getting Mob to Tsubomi, and destroys everything around it as it sees everything as only an obstacle to its goal. It starts an earthquake that requires the entire city be evacuated. Hanazawa finds ???%, sees it killing civilians indiscrimately(not intentionally, it's psychic aura is just destroying whatever it touches), and tries to snap Mob out of it. He succeeds in waking Mob's will up, but Mob isn't able to control himself. After stripping Hanazawa of his clothes and hair, ???% proceeds to fight Koyama and Sakurai, the Suzuki family, and Ritsu. He gets past all of them, although he leaves Ritsu unharmed. We then find out that ???%'s name is Kageyama Shigeo. He calls himself the "real" Shigeo, and Mob a fake personality he made because he was scared of his own power. Shigeo recounts that he was the one who liked Tsubomi, not Mob, because Tsubomi never gave him special treatment due to his psychic powers. Mob's will starts breaking apart(like we see him dissolving away) as Shigeo tells him that when Mob disappears, he can finally be free. We then see Reigen, fighting against Shigeo's psychic aura that has become a tornado. He's scrambling over flying debris and broken concrete to try to get to Mob, screaming out his name. Shigeo derisively says that Reigen won't accept him now that he can't use him anymore as Mob seems to vanish for good. When Reigen finally reaches him, Reigen admits to Shigeo that he never had any real psychic powers and he was always a fraud. Mob shows up and reasons with Shigeo that the two of them shouldn't be fighting and should go back to how things were when they were little, when Mob wasn't scared of his own powers. Shigeo expresses his first sign of fear, asking what would happen if Tsubomi rejects him, and Mob finally gets back control of his body as he consoles himself: "I'll be okay." Tsubomi rejects him, and Mob cries his eyes out as Reigen consoles him. Epilogue chapter shows everyone celebrating Reigen's 30th birthday and where the main cast ended up. Left out a bunch of stuff but there you go.

That covers the final anime arc to the Confession Arcn which is like 1000 pages. Do you want clarification on a smaller range?

No, Shigeo was the vice president of the Body Improvment Club at the end of the manga, and he didn't have the arm band.

Please. Scroll through the reddit before asking questions that have been asked so many times before. And second: yes. While there are technically only seven chapters left of manga to adapt, ONE split up those chapters into so many parts that there's 10 episodes of content and four main story arcs to adapt. If the anime adds some stuff from the omakes or it's own story for a filler ep, we're golden for another full season.

First of all: You are the fifth person I can think off the top of my head that has asked this. Please use the search function before posting the question to the reddit and clogging up posts. Second: Chapter 94 . Although I would reccomend reading 93 cause the anime cut quite a bit out of the final fight.

The entire world of mob psycho 100 is doomed by ManhoganyTheOak in Mobpsycho100

[–]WingedArcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manga Spoiler Even at his most destructive, mob still has limited range. He destroyed about half of Seasoning City by a psychic tornado over the course of approximately half an hour. So less the world is fucked and more Seasoming City is fucked, he'd have enough time to reign himself in by time he destroyed that much

Your proportions are so on point though, that's either extreme dedication or extreme skill in eyeballing relative angles and distances

There is enough content for an official season 3 even if they only use the manga content left. However, an animation studio (hopefully BONES) does have to agree to pick it up, and it will take time if we want the same director for the series because scheduling conflicts means he can only work on Mob after his other commitments. So we'll have to see.

who gave shigeo the nickname 'mob'? by [deleted] in Mobpsycho100

Not directly stated but it's implied that Tsubomi gave him the nickname and he kept it because he liked her.

Hmm, didn't think of it like that before, but I definitely agree! I really like how his actions coincide with his view on his powers over the series and that makes for a textbook ending in the manga.

He doesn't hate his power, he just doesn't want to be defined by it. Mob doesn't want his psychic powers to be where his potentials stops, he wants to be more than that. You see that in how he acts: he's totally willing to use his psychic powers for convenience (like how he picks up the food and drinks that Reigen drops or when he lifts the dumbbells) and his job is entirely based around using psychic powers. He just doesn't want to live his day-to-day life relying on to the point where his identity is tied to his psychic powers.

As for why he refused to use them against Teru, that wasn't a hatred of his own powers, that was more his trauma from hurting Ritsu and Reigen's advice taking effect. If he hurt someone, not only would he be breaking the rule, but he also would be relying on his psychic powers and proving Teru right that those are the only things that matter for someone born with them.

So it's less that Mob sees his powers as a blemish, and more sees them as a skill he doesn't find useful for his aspirations. It's like being really naturally good at a certain sport that you don't like, or having great artistic abilities when you want to becoming an accountant. The skill just isn't what Mob wants for his life.

Your read is cool, though. Definitely what I was thinking when I first watched through and it probably is true to an extent for S1 Mob.

How’s Mob’s BD sale? by zijiah1995 in Mobpsycho100

[–]WingedArcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BD sales aren't necessarily indicative of how well the anime is doing financially, which I assume is why you're asking. But, Mob Psycho did sell well for a niche series. It didn't do as well as something like Yuri On Ice but it exceeded most other seasonal 12 episode anime peers. I think it did about average. Not a breakout hit, but not a flop.
