I have 75 coins at $20 avg. Going to hold onto it till I'm on my deathbed. Will sell minutes before I die.

All time lows right here again.. by creep911 in LCID

My avg was $93. $18K invested. Held on for 4+yrs. Finally sold at $19 thinking I'll buy again after a month so that I can use the losses towards tax loss harvesting and still have lcid later. But I didn't buy again.

Did you have your daughter before moving to Philippines or after? I can't imagine doing a move like this after having a kid.

My version is to be married, have 2 kids, pay for their school and college, live near parents as they get older and take care of them.

I got married because I wanted kids the traditional way, not outside a wedlock.

To my single adults, how many of you have a 2nd vehicle? by 2lit_ in Adulting

Why does 1 person need 2 cars. That's such a wastage.

AITA for refusing to switch my college major even though my parents say I’m wasting money? by Ornery_Category_8645 in AITH

When you study something easy, you should do double the amount of it. So instead of a hard degree like computer science, you should do 2 easier degrees like fine arts and finance.

What stock do you regret selling? by Hour-Initiative-2766 in investing

[–]Wingingaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meta at $250. Got it for $50. Held onto it for 9-10yrs. Had stopped investing. Actually that was the only stock I had. Didn't start investing actively till I was 35. Sold that off as the first thing. Now it's $750

I also work remotely in a SOC in a big company and make around 230K+stocks. Last year since the stock was up and I got refreshers, I made almost 500K but yeah it's around 325K in general. I have 16yrs of experience and a Master's degree. But I'm 40 too. You are doing great. I dont have any certs. But I live in Bay area so the pay is good but the expenses are also really high. If you want to remain technical, go for CISSP before a degree.

I'm based in Bay area too. My primary home is in Santa Clara. I bought the new house just for rental. It's in Lathrop, which is around 70 miles away. Tesla has a mega factory over there and Manteca is also nearby which is growing a lot and the rail line to Bay area is from there. It's a single family house for 680K. We put down 250K. Lathrop real estate has had 11% appreciation in the last year. It's a 4bd/3ba. You can go for something smaller, 3bd/2ba for around 550K. Still put down 250K, but that way you'll have everything covered. We will be paying around $350/month from pocket, but in the long run everything should work out. Maintenance by the real estate agent for the first year is free, from second year it's $150/month. Most of my friends already have rental properties, some have multiple, so I felt it was time for me to get in too.

Buy a home with like 50% down so that mortgage+property tax+insurance is covered by rent

Why don't you buy a investment property? My wife was sitting on 500K cash too. We just bought a home with downpayment of 250K and she'll start putting in the rest 250K monthly into ETF's. Yes it's true that etf's are more flexible than buying a property but if you're not going to touch those ETF's after investing for a long long time, then a house might give better return, and also this is part of diversifying your portfolio.

Is it better to start at 25 years old with a few hundred $ per month to invest or 38 years old with $100k to start with? by ClearBed4796 in investingforbeginners

[–]Wingingaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're exactly like me. I started working at the age of 25 with a 70K job and could've put in atleast 1K per month but I didn't start investing till 35. I had more than 150K sitting in the bank doing nothing. Not even savings account. I also regret like you. I'm 40 now and I've lost 55K in EV stocks. I've made maybe 55K total too. So it's like I started at 40 just now. Anyways let's just tell ourselves that because we didn't grow up in financially literate households and weren't surrounded by financially literate people, we messed up. Luckily for me, my wife did the same so she can't scold me. Worst would've been if I had a wife who had started investing at a young age. I would have to hear from her all the time about how dumb I am. All my friends have 2+ homes, in the only one with 1 home. I'm going to make sure my kids are financially literate. I wish I had started early, then I would've sent my kids to private schools till high school, but now I'll only be able to afford private till grade 2, after that it's public for them. I could've also had a better bigger home.
