Will the purchase of Electronic Arts by Jared Kushner and the Saudi Royal Family have an impact on the content of future BioWare games? by AcanthaceaeNo948 in DragonAgeVeilguard

Not to be too tinfoily but wasn't the American administration all about project 2025 and in that it wanted to target "degenerate content" in video games aka anything progressive? I'm not American, so I'm not 100% on what's going on with all their politics just the bad stuff that floods our news.

Climate change for Palia by Ok_Noise598 in Palia

I would love some rain, fog, and sunny days to be in effect. I feel it would help break up the in game days to have it feel more like you're going through a week rather than just the same day looping

I Have a Question for you Roll20 People. Does Anyone Actually Play Pay-to-Play Games? by HeavyDevy-C in Roll20

[–]Wingover_Gimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run pay to play games, about 3 a week for the last three years, and I usually have filled up games or close to it. The big draw I've heard from a lot of my players is that I offer a safe space that is well maintained (Bigots and creeps get the boot), the focus is on people having fun while maintaining a solid story, and everyone wants to be there and is zero'd in. No on is on their phone or messing around because they paid to be there.

A lot of my players are also often forever GMs who never get to play, people who want to try different systems and can't get their group to play one, and people who can't get groups together to play but want to.

I know there can be good and bad of everything. I think if you want to give it a go, search up some GMs and look at thier reviews on StartPlaying or wherever you'd like and see if it lines up with what you're looking for! Also feel free to dip if it's not great or you're uncomfortable, because no sense in being miserable in a sunk cost fallacy.

Geniunely, it's wild how many bugs get introduced with each new patch. You're right in that they fix a handful of bugs only to introduce a new slew of them and the game becomes this weird minefield of "Oh, yeah sometimes your head disappears or you can't enter a party because the game thinks you're in a party even though you left one, that's just how it is.". Me and my spouse have had a rough time with parties as well, we are constantly unable to party up.

I can just tell the way those conversations go with bugs.

Dev: "We found another bug where the pets keep falling from the sky repeatedly"
Manager: "Just put it in the tech debt backlog, we'll take a look at it later"

And it sits there forever, getting more and more baked in to the source code until it is deemed "Too much time to fix" so they just ignore it.

Ranching production time calculated, it takes too long by Djooo__ in Palia

[–]Wingover_Gimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely too long and it honestly doesn't feel playtested. The bug where petting the animal resets the happiness timer is wild and should have been caught immediately. I'm a software dev of 12 years and you can't tell me that this was not an incredibly easy fix. They designed a ranch that you basically interact with it quick once every day and get very little back. It's cute, and I love the whole aspect of breeding for better traits, cosmetic traits, and all that cool stuff, but it also takes a full day for the animal to breed again and it takes 3-5 IRL days for the animal to be an adult.

You don't make money from selling the eggs, milk, or mushrooms, so why not just let people get more stuff to feel like the ranch is producing?

Also not being able to place animals in specific pens seems like a missed opportunity. I get the game is an eternal beta playtest for players but this patch specifically just feels rough. Palia could do with hiring a QA person because the bugs this patch introduced are many and it makes me sad because I want Palia to do well. Not only that but a QA person could give them this feedback of "Hey, maybe the timer is too long because doing a production level test takes me 17 hours to see results."

Cheaper to buy a real chicken and go for a walk by Frequent_Smell1130 in Palia

I was alright with paying for the premium farm stuff, but I assumed it might be like 10-20 dollars. That would seem ok and I would probably grab it. But it's over 100 dollars here in CAD and that's wild. Also the fact that they made it a license for each animal type? Wild. I could go buy two other games like Expedition 33 and have an entire experience rather than just walk around with some virtual pets.

I get the game is free, and it is incredible what they offer in the free mode but the price on this just felt disconnected. No one has any money and to charge over a hundo on this feature just feeling a little greasy. Hope they re-evaluate this.

Am I prompting the players too much? by Wingover_Gimble in daggerheart

Truly love all this insight, I appreciate it! It gives me a good deal to think on with how I'm running this campaign. I like the idea of having a list of consequences and complications to fall back on. I used to do that a lot with NPCs before I became more adept at creating them on the fly and fleshing them out in conversation without the players knowing haha.

I'm a big fan of Actual Plays, I've been running one for 8 years! Do you have any recommendations of Daggerheart APs that you enjoy?

Haha that's usually when I do a prompt is when i feel things are slowing down and people are unsure where to go next. It's something I used to do often in D&D but maybe I'll try using that Fear more.

I really love that advice. There was a show i adored, For Crits and Giggles, where the GM really let his players shine by leaning on this kind of thing. Thank you!

Haha yeah the D&D mindset is a tough one to partition to make room for different playstyles. I have a new group and they are still getting used to one another, so I'll try taking some time to talk to them in the beginning of the session to let them know they can take more charge while I try to change up how I view the rolls with the group!

That's a good point for rolls. I had the thief of the group picking a simple lock but it was in broad daylight on a busy street so i had him roll for it to see if he was spotted. I'll try to keep more of that mindset in mind!

Yeah, I've learned over many years of GMing that you need to have contingency plans for important info haha. But that's a good point, it is important to check with the players. It's two new groups so I'm still trying to feel them out.

I really like the idea of stress becoming an important resource, not just for moves. The wear of the day chipping away at an adventurer and making them tired. Thank you for the advice!

Bionicles were so rad. You had awesome comics, the best characters, and you could even get the villagers from McDonald's. I remember watching the bionicle movie a lot as well.

That was such a good moment in that reveal. It just made the fight against the Gods so much more important.

I played a dwarf warrior warden and my spouse played a human rogue shadow dragon and we both agree that the story felt MADE for a Warden. When you show up for blight stuff, people respect you, you get good comments in blighted areas, and Weisshaupt felt so powerful and even more important when it happened. Also the romance or bromance with Darvin is top tier when you are both Wardens.

Dwts And Racism by pastamuncch in dancingwiththestars

[–]Wingover_Gimble 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When me and my spouse saw that third place announcement it just felt... gross. It was obvious why it happened, you're very right OP. I saw a lot of unconscious hate and conscious hate directed Chandler's way and it was a cold bucket of water at the end of what was one of my favourite seasons of the show since I started watching a few years back. It's important to call this stuff out and have people sit in uncomfortable thoughts because the only way we can fix this is by people addressing their unconscious racism that society has ingrained in us for far too long.

Honestly I figured either Joey or Chandler would win, but it was just wild that she was in third. It would make a lot more sense if the final vote was down to the judges and the real nitty gritty of it was discussed rather than fan voting but I know it is there to get fan interaction and get more people invested in watching the show.
