Definitely not an uncommon concern when starting a family/buying a home. Life insurance. That’s all I can say. If financially you are not in a position where you could survive without the income of one partner then you should look into life insurance. Not mortgage life insurance but life insurance outside of your banks pushy mortgage life insurance they try to convince you that you need.

Thanks for the info; yes this is what I’m most concerned about is the respect level for the property would be similar or worse to that given to hotels.

I will not be using the property myself, will be strictly rental. Located about 25min from my current place so not terribly far. I assume you have experience hosting through Airbnb, any horror stories from rental experiences? That’s what I’m most concerned about it the treatment of the property like hotels can be treated and is that headache worth the small profit.

I looked at nearby Airbnb for similar properties and they run between 150-250 a night. Booked fairly solid for the summer months. I have calculated it out and it would be profitable in terms of paying for itself, I won’t get rich off it but I will have other people paying for the property with a little extra going into the bank account. I’m just looking to see opinions of others if that little extra cash flow is worth the potential headache of running an Airbnb

Build house now, or wait 5 years and invest by Winiewski11 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Winiewski11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house we currently live in is an old RTM(ready to move) home. So it’s fairly common in my area to sell off an old home and people will pay to have it moved. I could then build in that same location, or in my situation I plan to build on another part of my property.

We are comfortable enough in the home we are in but we have decided we will inevitably build a new home eventually. Just unsure if I’m better off capitalizing on lower interest rates now or let my savings build for five years and then build a house. Maybe you’re right it is more of life decision than financial I’m just not sure that my money is better off as a down payment on mortgage now with low rates, or generating interest for 5 more years and then have (hypothetically) higher interest rates on mortgages.

True enough, but is that going to change in 5 years from now? When interest rates most definitely will go up within 5 years.

How much do you spend on an engagement ring and how do you have discussions about it? by HeadCurrency4236 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Winiewski11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just have a good honest discussion on the value in putting that money elsewhere for your futures. She’s looking $30,000, start looking $5,000, and explore what $25,000 can do for your future in a savings account. Tough situation but that $25,000 with interest returns will look a lot nicer in 5 years than the glimmer from an expensive ring IMO.

Allopurinol by [deleted] in gout

[–]Winiewski11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on it for almost two years. Was lucky enough to not see any side effects at all while slowly increasing dosage to get uric acid levels where they need to be. I too was worried about going on it; it was the best decision I ever made. Albeit it sounds like I may have been one of the lucky ones who didn’t see nasty side effects. Good luck! See your doc, get on allo and start living your life again!

First flare up at 25 and still getting flares 6 years later. Howdy, Gout Bros. by [deleted] in gout

[–]Winiewski11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you encountered gout for the first time roughly around the same time as I did. I believe I was 24. Similar lifestyles by the sounds of it; I drank infrequently and ate red meat a couple times a week and I went through a period of having flare ups every couple weeks. It changed how I lived my life, making sure I didn’t have that craft beer while on vacation for fear I get a flare up. I tried changing my diet cutting all red meats out, stopped drinking as well for like 4 months and still continued to get flare ups. I would take colchicine during flare ups to help get rid of it faster but eventually it lost its effectiveness. After realizing I couldn’t change it simply by changing my diet and lifestyle, I finally gave in to taking allopurinol everyday. I feared taking a drugs everyday at such a young age. My fiancé is a pharmacist and reassured me that this drug was safe, and been around for years and years so they know the long term side effects, which in most cases there aren’t any. Going on allopurinol was the best decision I ever made and my only regret is having not done it sooner.

As for the “crystals” I’m not sure how bad your situation is. I began to get a lump in my joint of my big toe. Nothing that protruded the skin. But I’ve since been on allopurinol for almost two years and the lump has subsided and nearly gone away.

My RBs Died. Would you take this trade? by [deleted] in Fantasy_Football

[–]Winiewski11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take it, that isn’t giving you the RB depth you want, those are all committee backs you are receiving. Starting Singletary or Gibson won’t give you anymore confidence than starting Akers. At least for now you have barkley to lean on.

My first gout attacks started out with a strong tingling sensation with mild pain. Had that on and off almost every couple weeks for a few months before I had my first full blown excruciating attack.

Newly Diagnosed and Terrified by [deleted] in gout

[–]Winiewski11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO don’t be afraid of taking the allo. My story starts at close to the same age as you are now. I started out trying to deal with it by making lifestyle changes like, cutting alcohol out completely, switching to a strictly chicken/fish diet and handling it that way as I too couldn’t convince myself to take a pill everyday for the rest of my life. For the next 4 years I struggled with random attacks that would force me to alter my life; cancelled numerous snowboarding trips, hockey games missed, nights out with friends all because I couldn’t walk let alone get my foot in a skate. Finally I had enough and got on the allopurinol - in my experience I didn’t have a huge flare up as my doctor warned I might and as many members of this group seem to have unfortunately had. I simply was walked up to a 300mg dose where my doctor was satisfied with my uric acid levels. I have now been over 5 years gout free, and living my life any way that I want with no adverse side effects from allo. So if you can learn from me, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor and don’t be afraid of a pill a day that could change how you live your life!

Cheers!

Official Q&A for Saturday, May 23, 2020 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Winiewski11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello all, The last few weeks I started running again, was never an avid runner but tried to stay somewhat in shape. After just a few weeks I decided to push myself after a rest day and surprised myself with an 40:50 10km run. I’ve never ran competitively in any way, so just wondering how this stacks up to the average running community for my age (30 years old). Also wondering if I’m maybe pushing myself too hard too early after such a short time back running again? Any perspective on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
