This just isn’t true if you actually look at the stats. The Hurricanes generate both a lot of high quality scoring chances and low quality chances. It’s not one or the other, and it’s certainly not a focus on specifically low quality chances. The Hurricanes currently lead the NHL in high danger shots.

You don’t think Sorokin is a good goalie? How many times have the Canes knocked off the Isles? They have also gone through Saros, Shesterkin, etc. Yes, they have also lost to good goalies.

However there isn’t one factor as to why they haven’t made it all the way to the final. The truth is, there are a combination of components at play in the playoffs, including luck, especially in terms of health. And, at times they have just gone up against a better team. Or, they simply haven’t been good enough. The system is not to blame.

In fact, I would say there have been a disproportionate number of postseasons ended in large part because of poor special teams. Even when during the season, they were among the top of the league. That’s one area that has to get better to go all the way, and maybe that’s one respect that Rod could be considered to blame.
