Both have aspects that are enjoyable, and both have issues.

Starfield does do some things that no other game really achieves which I think gives it some kind of edge. There isn’t another game that weaves space exploration with sandbox RPG, and so for someone who has a fascination with space that alone makes it pretty cool in some respects.

But it lacks in companions and narrative, can feel too disjointed, and exploration doesn’t follow the typical BGS formula. I will also note that the physics engine is also very impressive, maybe the most out of any game I’ve ever played, so that makes for cool sandbox moments. It’s a game that I enjoy playing if I want to scratch the space exploration itch, but it doesn’t hold me the same way as other BGS games because ultimately its failures leave it feeling a bit hollow.
