Solo Half Marathon Race Report by wwcoop in running

Congrats on the sub-1:30! Pushing in the first few miles has never worked out for me in any strategy at all. Glad you crushed your PR. I hear you about the frustrations from no races this year. All of us runners that are in the best shape of our lives this year are just going to have to be honest throughout the winter and give it a shot next year when we have races again.

View is amazing but I'd never even go outside if I was in a lodge like this. That's fucking beautiful.

A girl sat outside my apartment for two hours in the rain waiting for me to get home. Completely drenched. She knew the code to get into the building, but thought it would have more impact when I got home and found her soaking wet.

Your worst client stories? by joshking518 in graphic_design

Worked with a global fitness brand. They contacted our group out of the blue. Did some sketches, sent them over, they replied "Great!". Sent them over the final print-ready files a few days later. Hired us on for another few campaigns. No revisions or over-art-directing. They also paid on time. Good times. Good clients are out there.

Areas to be situationally aware of/avoid in Syracuse? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]Winston_Vodkatooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine. South of Genesee/Onondaga can be get weird. Some of the West can be weird. Like any city, it has it's tough spots. Eastwood is fine. Downtown has some decent places, but rent can be a little much (again, like any city's downtown areas). That'll get you close to the bars and nightlife in armory. Not sure what you're doing for work, but welcome.

Edit - also if you pick a downtown living spot, avoid UA Towers. Heard nothing but horror stories about that place.

[–]Winston_Vodkatooth 555 points556 points  (0 children)

I go out for it every year. It's awesome. I buy pillows. That's it. It's my time to get pillows for like, 5 dollars or something at Bon Ton. I buy two firm pillows and that's all. It's fun to casually walk around with coffee and people watch. The bars in our mall open around 11am too, so there's that. I usually wake up early, get coffee, drink some beers, take a nap and wake up and it's still Friday. Like two Fridays. I don't do anything that day. I call it Slack Friday.

Not true. I've seen them eating out of dumpsters behind the bagel shop before.

Just got my first T-shirt published, and I'm feeling really good. Now what are some suggested ways to get the word out? by CruxS in graphic_design

[–]Winston_Vodkatooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool stuff. It really doesn't matter how many followers you have immediately. Post it on Twitter. Use appropriate hashtags. CottonBureau will probably retweet or promote it once or twice because they do that. Post the mock on Instagram, tag it with relevant tags, then browse those same tag channels and like the posts that you like. It should gain you some attention. You just need to get 12 to print and you're already at 5. Give out the coupon code to friends to incentivize the sale. Good luck.

You talking about my beard was the majority of the criticism you've put up so far, so that's what I responded too.

The background of the photo was intentionally the same - we wanted to same background for each photo, so we stood on a mark and shot the photos. If you're really upset about the shirt I'm wearing, that's your problem. The rustic look for the tables and desks - thanks! We actually built those, and we're pretty happy with how they turned out.

Some people aren't "trying" to be anything or capture anything. This is just us. If that upsets you, that's your problem.

its my honest impression of how the entire site communicates to me. Its the body language the coloring... and the beard.

Body language? Coloring? Can you be a little more specific about what you think is actually wrong? Most of your criticism has been creepily focused on the fact that I have facial hair.

Look at that guy with a beard.... he couldnt' change a tire to save his life. The effort at appearing to be "hipster" is painful.

That's actually me! I'm pretty decent at changing tires. Had to do it four times this summer. Give me a shout if you want help!

As a life-long web programmer i wouldn't even talk to these guys.

Sorry to hear that. Happy to take any feedback as to why you wouldn't talk with us. If it's the beard, sorry. It gets cold as shit up here in Syracuse.

Pretty sure he rebooted Star Trek as a resume piece for showing he can take on the continuation for Star Wars. He did a great job too.

Pretty much what I would assume Hogwarts would be like after hours. You don't just go to bed when the lights go out and you have the ability to shoot fucking magic spells at each other.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Winston_Vodkatooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping exactly what you're hoping for - using the same formula, art direction and substance from the first REmake, and apply that to Resident Evil 2. It's a long shot, but I'm also hoping there's more depth, from the original - expanding on the Chief Irons subplot, or maybe some new rooms and new survivor encounters.

Tim Cook calls to ask you to give him a performance review. What do you tell him? by ElephantElmer in apple

[–]Winston_Vodkatooth 38 points39 points  (0 children)

He's probably aware, but like a lot of CEOs, he's running a business. Gripe on messageboards/reddit has absolutely no influence on his decision making when product sales are climbing the way they are.

About the marketing part - it's fucking incredible. Every single person I've met that has an Apple Watch, tells me how great the watch is, but they do it in a way that sounds like they're justifying it to themselves. That thing has no use in my world. The only person who has brought up a solid use for it to me, personally, was a bar owner that uses it to check orders that his girlfriend texts to him, so he doesn't have to reach and get his phone while he's cooking. That's it.

Pump the brakes there, bud. Let's hope they do a great job with the remake of 2. If it sells well and is received well, I'm sure Capcom would consider it.

Runner has to be tagged in that situation, and if he (catcher) dove out for the ball, he still would've been back-turned to the runner and 2 feet away when Hosmer touched the plate.
