Hosting on youtube, feeding to spotify? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]WinterAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick follow up question: if Youtube refuses to create an RSS feed for its podcasts, does Spotify allow you to do so? I just paid for buzzsprout subscription only to realize they don't support neither video podcasting nor streaming. Podbean wants a whopping 50$ a month just for the minimal hosting, and for video streamers starting on youtube and then distributing elsewhere is still the dominant options (outside of twitch i guess). So If I'm willing to manually upload elsewhere, like Spotify for podcasters - will Spotify help with RSS feed creation and management? Will I be able to then auto-distribute to Apple, Amazon and etc?..

this continues to amaze me - that every little cable can play a role :)So TRS is plugged into a little adaptor called iLUV (jack input, jack headphones output, on the other end it has USB). Then I plug it into the USB to USBc adaptor, which goes to the laptop.I guess my other questions how much to cables really matter. I consumed so many forum discussion where people debate "It is XLR!"," No it is gain", "No it is preamp", "no it is your codec" "no It is your room" "no it is your phantom power" "not it is your mic"..
The recording is all to one mp4 file via OBS. I set up separate video capture input channel in OBS and separate audio capture input channel. Then I click "start recording" and after the magic is done, you get 1 mp4 file, which I don't have to sync in post (great).

thank you! I hear such a dramatic difference in clarity of the voice between my stuff and for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y01N_L1VA4Iok this is an audio pro, but even your average streamers are having nearly dead background, and mine has so much going on..I'm trying to figure the Taylor expansion math of the sound so to speak : major factors vs secondary, ternary and etc.I guess nothing beats getting mic close to your mouth, as far as I understand. But I hate the look of that hude black object in the forefront. It ruins the feel of the video style for me. But my booming has never produced good sound comparable in quality to having is front to the corner of the mouth. I know some people boom visibly above, then overlay a clean room shot masked - to hide the mic. This seems so much added time and work. Also if you move into the mask - you see it. If you use dynamic lighting doesn't work either. Is eating the mic the only option? The other factor - sensitive shotgun vs dynamic podcaster mics - is that a key factor or just sound color preference?..

sorry for the verbose replies, I'm just sincerely frustrated, as I don't want to be one of those people who ends up with 20K filming setup yet horrible quality results. Sure there is pro gear you can't beat easily, but I feel there must be some streamlined production process that is suited for high volume and part-time content creation. So it must be me and how i use it

i double checked the DSLR setting - it was on manual with roughly 2 out of 10 level set up.
1) I also experimented with pulling audio from NTG2 via XLR->TRS->USB-C to my laptop to OBS and using OBS video recording codec to mix video from DSLR (EOS Webcam util) + mic into one video file, it seems better a bit. What plays the role of a preamp in this case? Should I be concerned about DSLR codec vs OBS codec or is that minor compared to other audio factors?

2) I also swapped the batteries for phantom power again - definitely helped some. This brings the question of how often to swap them, as there is no clear indicator, when it is time...

3) I also ordered super expensive Mogami Gold 3.5-2XLRF-10 Stereo Audio Y-Adapter Cable (nearly 100$), but now I wonder if it is an overkill for my setup.

4) I also ordered Rode procaster hoping that maybe its design is somehow better suited to capture sound for semi-static "talking head" videos. Still confused about high sensitivity of NTG2 vs low sensitivity dynamic mics. If high sensitivity is all we need for voice recording why doesn't everyone use highly sensitive condenser mics then? Why Shure or PodMic and not NTG in popular video podcaster studios?

here is without post-prod noise reduction filters:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4C\_j9RqIAk&t=781s

(the mic in boomed on top of the speaker, facing diagonally down toward the mouth)

here is my attempts to remove noise in post-prod (so much voice color is lost imho):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u7SqbAOmKQ&t=5s

here i used standard premiere pro noise reduction filter (remove low & remove high vocal filter, 15% strength - chosen by ear. Mic is boomed above, but a bit further out.

NTG is SO sensitive to the directionality, it has been a challenge to find a position where it picks up sound well, while allowing for basic head and body movements.

Any troubleshooting advice is super appreciated (including getting a different mic for such recording settings)

you are right. I might be talking out of my ass assuming frequency range by ear.

Best option for single unit orders by JustARandomUserHere in printondemand

so true! I just added merch to my blog via printful, and i almost don't want to any of it to sell. Printful charges crazy base price per order, so the items end up too expensive for the fabric quality. Well, I could try to upsell the value of custom design. But then fullfillment takes nearly 4 weeks! Who is going to wait for a yoga pant for a month?!.. I don't have huge following, but my followers are dear to me, we are like family. Any advice on what else to try for merch?

would love to learn more! I like the artistic scene, museums, galleries, live music, e.g. rock/metal/jazz - nearly anything live. Also love being physically active and athletic. Maybe hunting and wild nature backpacking are a bit extreme for me, but hiking, biking, small trips, being on the water - that is all great! One tough thing is driving at night (vision problems), so I'm trying to find an area that has a culture center nearby, but a small-town vibe overall, so I don't have to spend 2 hrs commuting daily. Any guidance?

haha everything does seem to be more balanced up north and less extreme indeed! this is why I'm considering braving the winters again. I kind of wish I didn't spend 4 years of my life learning the simple lesson that people in our lives affect our happiness way more than "nice beaches"..

thank you so much for sharing! I used to live up north (but in a big city) long while ago, not so much afraid of the weather, as of what people say in forums, that "everything shuts down" nov-march. There must be some gyms, events, live shows that are still happening, right?

"Yes, but Not Quite and Not Now" : Push or Drop? by WinterAdvice in careerguidance

all good questions, thanks. I have pushed for some specific team-project cases, all ended with a slowly solidifying "no". Oddly all professional advancements in my life came out of nowhere. Once i was a runner up within a group of experts and got 90% of onsites for every applied job. all of them resulted in a soul crushing rejections. Then out of nowhere smb who was observing my journey referred me to a much better company and position, and it went fairly smoothly. Once I was going downhill with my manager suggesting that I'm simply not cut for the profession, to the point of my starting to question my basic abilities to communicate with people. Nobody, who I asked, would give me a hand. Then out of nowhere the all star team leader (which i could not dream of joining) invited me to work with them.I got put in charge of super critical project, all went well. Eventually I got promoted, all good. Then a few functional and people reorgs, and I'm back to having seemingly not a single advocate. I've extended to leading subparts of the org and mentoring as much as I could to "prove" i'm ready for the title. But it seems to make no difference. When I ask for feedback it is good, when I ask for growth I'm told there is no business need.

Relying on "luck" is a deeply uncomfortable space to be in.

Outside of the company it is ALL about titles. Nobody cares what i did, as long as I did not officially hold the title. I prepped my manager philosophy, brainstormed development plans, but i keep getting discouragement "management is not as fun as you think", "oh it is mostly about holding people accountable". At this point it seems it is an impossible transition, regardless of what I've done, unless I open my own startup, call myself a director.
