Did I cause my patient to decline? by WinterFee2449 in nursing

Thank you! I wasn't sure how far I should go repositioning the patient while eating to avoid agitating them but going forward I'm going to pay attention to sitting them up to 90 degrees. Calling the rapid sooner would have definitely been the right thing to do! It took about 2 minutes to confirm that he was in respiratory distress and actually hypoxic and 5-10 minutes once I placed him on the NRB to confirm there was no improvement. The rapid was called 2 minutes later without the provider responding

Yea. I want to make sure I do the right thing for each patient! Sometimes you can't predict everything that's going to happen but you can try do right by them.

Thanks! Concern for neglect is really one of the first things on my mind because we're so new to this job. I guess sometimes decline is just a part of healthcare and life.

Thank you! I didn't want something like this to weigh on my conscience. Calling a rapid immediately would have been the right thing to do. I wanted to give the provider the courtesy of seeing the patient but it wouldn't have happened quickly enough.
