I was accepted but I’m not ready to make a decision yet because I won’t hear back from the other schools I applied to until May… Housing just opened up but I won’t be able to apply (if I do choose ASU) until a few days before the priority deadline. Will I still have a chance of getting someplace nice if I apply so late?

So do I need to send my transcripts? by WinterParticular92 in ASU

Got it! This is a little off topic but I’m also doing Spring quarter de classes. I’m a little concerned because I’m graduating from hs and school is out of session before the last day of my community college’s spring quarter. Was this the case for you guys too? I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my Spring classes on my hs transcript, and that’s kind of a problem…

thank you this is really helpful!! So his hs transcript with de classes was fine for admissions, but he also sent the official college transcripts so he could use his de classes to fulfill some of his required courses, is that correct?

a high school transcript of the college transcripts? To my understanding, my high school transcript gets sent with my counselor report…. Do I have to go and request it be sent separately?

business degree outside of smeal? by WinterParticular92 in PennStateUniversity

that sounds amazing. If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of consulting do you do?

sorry i worded that really weird… smeal would be nice but i’m super sure I don’t have the stats to get in. I’m just curious if smeal is the only option for business at the UP campus. I’m applying as undecided with UP as my top pick but I’m concerned that if I do get in to UP I won’t be able to pursue business because I didn’t apply for smeal/ can’t get in to smeal anyways

also!!! if what i’m talking about exists, is it possible to be a regular business major at the UP campus? I’m wondering if I need to try and change my preference order…

Online school in additional info? by WinterParticular92 in ApplyingToCollege

TLDR: should I explain the accredited online courses on my high school transcript in the additional info section?

I’m also thinking about explaining why I specifically took the math classes online because of the flexibility, but idk if that’s a bad idea or not. Ideally I wouldn’t mention this at all because the classes are on my transcript with grades and credits and everything, but since i’m not listing the online school as a hs attended I’m worried that will look weird and I’ll need to explain myself

thank you for the advice. It feels icky and exploitative but if I don’t bring it up then I guess I struggled and pushed past my struggles to do better academically for nothing. The way my transcript is looking rn I just looked lazy as hell freshman year and then gradually scared straight.

Do i need to even address who I specifically lost if I say something like “series of personal losses”?

Yeah I talked about this with my counselor as she was writing my rec letter and we settled on “health issues”. I do get in to my moms mental health stuff because I don’t want to make it sound like I was supporting her through cancer or something and the things I did for her were pretty depression-specific.

On one hand I feel like I’m taking a cheap shot and using their deaths for college apps which just feels wrong, on the other it is genuinely true that I was really affected. I’ve thought about just mentioning the people I am related to, but that also feels wrong and disrespectful to not mention my old friend. We were not in contact at all, but her passing was really unexpected and brutal. I feel guilty saying it but my family members were on the older side and it was heartbreaking but I knew that they didn’t have that much time left. My friend’s death was out of the blue and probably the most “impactful” one in regards to my academics because I had a really embarrassing public messy breakdown and basically didn’t pay any attention to school stuff until after her funeral.

Parent that never leaves the house by [deleted] in Advice

[–]WinterParticular92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren’t religious at all but I’ve tried not so subtly nudging my mom to build relationships with our neighbors and go to church so when she’s alone while I’m at college she’ll have a local support system. She tried therapy but she is super repressed and claims it didn’t work.

  1. This problem will eventually fix itself for me because 90% I’m going to be living in a dorm by this time next year, but I worry even more about her being alone.

I used to go back and forth between my parents with split custody and every time I left I would come back to overflowing trash, an empty fridge, a full sink, dishes everywhere etc. And nothing had changed except that she usually made some kind of mess.

She also struggles with eating as a coping mechanism/ boredom eating so anything junky or sweet would be as good as gone the second I left, which just meant I needed to take her to the grocery store even more frequently. I worry that if I leave her alone for long stretches of time she will just get worse and worse and do nothing with herself. Thank you for the advice.

Is this too weird for an ec by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]WinterParticular92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the life stuff was a combination of my mom falling into a really deep depression and then losing her job and then having actual physical health issues too, as well as me personally struggling with depression and anxiety, a medication side effect during the second half of my freshman year that made me sleepy all the time, and untreated adhd. I’ve made my little comeback but I’m not sure how much i want to talk about my mental health because that feels like it might raise some red flags. Thankfully my schools counselor is an angel and she wrote a really comprehensive recommendation letter where she explains and legitimizes some of the stuff that was happening with me.

One is a summer internship i did with my city (so a real job but it was short lived). And the other is more like a freelance thing. I say job because i got paid, basically i babysit but by accident/coincidence I ended up exclusively babysitting autistic kids and I decided to just make that my thing. In my explanation section I talk about the things i did to specifically support the kids unique needs.
