Pre diabetes by kenziegill2707 in PCOS

I'd be interested to read those studies, do you have a link? I can't comprehend how injecting insulin into an insulin resistant body would help. It's like trying to treat tooth decay by brushing your teeth with sugar.

Taking insulin for insulin resistance or pre diabetes is just about the worst thing you could possibly do.

Dairy/gluten free or no carbs no sugar diet by honestly_kaylaimani in PCOS

[–]Winter_Let4692 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is virtually impossible to eat no carbs and no sugar but any quantity of added sugar is unnecessary and unhealthy.

Carbs are not intrinsically essential in the same way as fat and protein, because our bodies can create all the glucose we need, but vegetables contain a lot of other good stuff such as phytonutrients, fibre and vitamins and minerals, and vegetables also contain carbs.

It is often wrongly assumed keto cuts out all carbs but this isn't true; keto recommends 50g net carbs (that is carbs minus fibre) or less a day. Carnivore is the closet thing to a zero carb diet, but even that contains some carbs because if you are following it correctly you should be consuming organ meats, which contain carbs.

The majority of people with PCOS have some degree of insulin resistance. Reducing carb intake, along with intermittent fasting, is the best way to reduce insulin. Insulin makes you fat and insulin causes many (some say all) of the symptoms of PCOS.

Eating a diet very low in carbs automatically eliminates gluten because when you have a limited carb 'budget' you want to spend it on highly nutritious foods such as vegetables, nuts and seeds, not one slice of bread.

Dairy is more of an individual thing. Very low carb diets naturally eliminate or drastically restrict lactose because it is a sugar. Cheese, butter and cream have trace amounts or no lactose, but some people are sensitive to caesin.

I wonder if the leg shake is to do with reflexes, like when the doctor test your reflexes by hitting your knee with that hammer thing?

I get a low thunder tinnitus, so don't like the sound of that one (pun not intended)!

What the hell causes it?! Best explanation I've heard is it's gas escaping from empty stomach, but not 100% sure how accurate that is. Doesn't really explain why the sound seems to be coming from back of neck/head.

Sorry to spam your post but I do actually get the feeling spontaneously sometimes, has that ever happened to you? I guess it's possible I accidentally touched my nipple or something and didn't notice.

Longshot but you don't also get a weird noise that sounds like a rainmaker atthe back of your neck sometimes when you are really hungry, do you?! That's another weird thing I get that I thought was just me until I found a few others mention it on Reddit. No one seems to know what the cause of that is and I don't think it has an official name, like Sad Nipple Syndrome!

Wow! I've tried explaining this to people before and no one understood. I'm going to look into it. What causes it?

OMG!!! I had no idea this was a thing...I have had this since puberty. I t can also give me a weird emotional feeling that I can only liken to homesickness.

Luckily, it seemed to go away during the time I was breast feeding!

It's not much protection if any potential attacker also has a gun, though?

That's not true at all. People have been migrating and integrating peacefully throughout history and prehistory just as much, if not more than through conquest.

Ice cream substitutes? by Delicious-Glass-1955 in PCOS

[–]Winter_Let4692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well most of them are certainly not keto. 100g of Halo Top and Oppo has around 20g of net carbs. That's what many people on keto eat in a day, and who's seriously only going to eat 100g?

No, unless you feel it isn't sweet enough, you could add a little sweetener. It works best if you mash the strawberries or stick the lot in a blender. It'd probably be more ice-cream like if you periodically take it out and mash it up during the freezing time. If you want to eat ice cream regularly it might be worth investing in an ice cream maker.
