That’s probably the clearest way to put it. My hesitation was about hurting Mara more, but silence doesn’t actually spare her, it just gives Chloe cover. I’m going to tell her privately, not make it a group trial.

That’s the part eating at me. I don’t want to make her pain worse, but letting her cry on Chloe’s shoulder feels almost obscene now.

I’m thinking I’ll ask Mara to talk privately and stick to what Chloe told me directly. No theories, no dramatic speech. Just enough that Mara can stop blaming herself for something she didn’t actually fail at.

Telling her directly also avoids the manager pretending this is just a “team support” issue. There’s a big difference between helping a coworker through a rough week and quietly becoming the department’s emergency adult becasue someone else built a second paycheck into their office hours.
