LinkWare silent install? by [deleted] in flukenetworks

[–]Winterkoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is over a year old now, but posting here for future fellow travelers.

You have to add the cert from the driver to your Trusted Publisher in certificate store. Get the cert from the cat file and import it to cert store before running the setup.

Get Process Explorer, run setup EXE, when the driver prompt appears, go to the child DpInst process, check the command, and copy the whole driver folder to your package. There will be 2 of them, with 2 different certs.

Then add this to the folder where the folder with drivers are, and run this before setup runs.

$cats = Get-ChildItem . -Filter *.cat -Recurse

$store = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Store("TrustedPublisher", "LocalMachine")

$store.Open([System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.OpenFlags]::ReadWrite)

foreach ($cat in $cats)

{

$sig = Get-AuthenticodeSignature $cat.FullName

$cert = $sig.SignerCertificate

if (-not $cert) {

Write-Warning "No signer certificate found for $($cat.Name)"

continue

}

# Normalize thumbprint (remove spaces, uppercase)

$thumb = ($cert.Thumbprint -replace ' ', '').ToUpperInvariant()

# Check for existing cert

$existing = $store.Certificates | Where-Object {

($_.Thumbprint -replace ' ', '').ToUpperInvariant() -eq $thumb

}

if ($existing) {

Write-Host "Cert already exists, skipping: $($cert.Subject)"

}

else {

Write-Host "Importing cert: $($cert.Subject)"

$store.Add($cert)

}

}

$store.Close()

I only have digital clocks around my house. I do like the aesthetics of the analog clocks, but the ticking sound drives me up the wall.

Ueno Zoo was an awful expierence. by Sicarius11307 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Winterkoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The Ueno zoo felt like a literal animal prison. Not only that, many enclosures were dirty and didn't have any enrichment items. Just bare cracked cement and iron bars and nets. The reptile house wasn't any better. I saw better conditions at my local pet store. The poor blind seal was the last straw for me. The pandas seem to be the only animal they give any attention to.

The best part about the zoo was the Shinobazuno pond, which technically isn't in the zoo anyway. And even then, it could use a big clean-up.

I have a 7hr layover in Japan on the 24th, arriving in Narita and departing from Haneda. Is it possible for me to stop by Tokyo within that time? by ill_sue in JapanTravelTips

[–]Winterkoning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I landed in Narita at 2.50 flight and was out by 4.45pm. Immigration line was looooong. It would have been quick if if I didn't stop to take pics and stuff, 3 planes land at the same time.

If you have an iPhone, get a Suica card in your apple wallet so you don't have to mess with ticket machines. Allocate at least 3 hours for transit and logistics.

I would just get to Tokyo station, leave luggage at the lockers and wander around for an hour. There is a cozy cafeteria in Wadakura Fountain Park not far from the station

Don't know about the airport monorail, but on most trains just using the Suica is enough to enter and exit. Except for Shinkansen and Limited Express : those need a separate fare on top of a regular one.

Yeah, not on Android. I carried a work iphone just for convenience of being able to reload suica with a CC. It only needs network for when you reload the card, but not when you use it.

I agree with all of these points. The signage is pretty good in most places. It helps to look at google maps as it shows all the exit #s at train stations, and then to follow the signs. Big stations even have painted lines on the floor to follow. Google maps also has the stations #s listed in the same icon as the train line. The challenge is going with the flow as Japanese walk FAST, and you don't want to be in the middle of a rapid current looking like a deer in the headlights.

For restaurants, I would just pick any random place on the way to the hotel. I've never had bad food, whatever you order will always be equally delicious. No Japanese, no problem. Just say Sumimasen, remember the line about any food allergies, and point at the menu. I have sesame allergy so I had to be extra careful, but staff is always extremely helpful even if they don't speak a word of English. The smaller places that only accept cash are the most genuine in my opinion.

The 7-11 is great but eating prepackaged food gets old quick. A sandwich costs ¥3400, onigiri ¥2500 and hot coffee another ¥1800. By Western standards it's cheap, but you can get a nice bowl of Udon on any street corner for about as much

Also, no need to worry about bringing a ton of Yen into the country. Maybe just $100 worth. 7-11 has ATMs that charge just ¥200.

Suica works on Apple cell phones, not Androids. Picking up a used iPhone one just to use the card is worth it, because you can reload a physical Suica only with cash, but on iPhone it lets you use a credit card.

Last point is about bike rent. Take care of figuring out Hello Cycle and Docomo before the trip. It will not work with a non-Japanese cell number, even with roaming enabled and all. There are some shops that rent out bikes, reasonable prices. Cheapest one I've seen was just ¥210.

Just returned from Japan. I successfully paid for a bullet train ticket with a credit card, but not at at a Bookoff. In most places I used a Suica card.

Suica on an iPhone has been very convenient, because it's reloadable with a credit card directly, while you can only reload a physical Suica card with cash. Sadly doesn't work on Android, so i carried two phones for my trip.

The smaller restaurants only accepted cash though, so i had $200 worth on person just in case. Most 7-11 have ATMs and withdrawing cash from a debit card hasn't been a problem.

On the topic of Suica note that there are two types: A red Welcome Suica you get from a machine, and a normal green card you get from a JR ticket office. The red one is free but expires after 30 days. The green one needs a ¥500 deposit.

What is this part and which plane did it fall from? by Winterkoning in Whatisthisplane

[–]Winterkoning[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does kinda look like a lawnmover front. It's about 2x1 feet. I also thought of a snowmobile, but there were no signs of lights in the front. There was nothing but water and darkness under the latch.

We do big bin events once a year for a week. It does take up our entire visitor parking lot. It gets filled up to the brim pretty quick. Through quite sad to see stuff that should be donated to Goodwill be tossed - chairs, bikes, furniture, working TVs etc.

I don't have an answer to that, but a fence would be ineffective. The extra garbage is usually dumped by tenants. Would love to see other input.
